Posted October 20, 20222 yr I was thinking after seeing about LUTW anniversary "should Steps release another Christmas album?" I don't really see LUTW as a Christmas album tbh, its a boring mediocre rather lame album (which I like to forget exisits). I think it's very obvious that Steps were very lost with their brand at the time trying to appear more grown up while still fitting into a pop market and this was what they thought fit that. As proven from later work they very much found their niche which was a development of their initial sound embracing their popness (thankfully). Based on this how would people feel about a new Christmas album which embraces their popness more? If you'd like it what type of tracklist would you go for and title? Under the mistletoe 7. Last Christmas 8. Mary’s boy child 9. Heartbeat (disco remix) 10. Rudolph the red-nosed rendeer 11. Tragedy (Christmas version) 12. 1,2,3,4 (X-mas galore)* 13. October 20, 20222 yr For me, no. I don't see it being a success and in terms of touring a Christmas album they'd only be able to do small venues. Maybe a one-off Christmas EP of originals but I wouldn't want a whole album of mostly Christmas covers by them personally.
October 20, 20222 yr Author Love your idea and I think you hit the nail on the head! I think I'd enjoy an Xmas album from them more than pretty much any act if they did a proper full on camp poppy one with a mixture of classic fun Xmas tracks and a couple of new fun poppy tracks to go with it. I very much see something like Girls Alouds Xmas disc on Chemistry working really well for them. This is my idea / tracklist STEP INTO CHRISTMAS 1. Merry Xmas everybody (Slade cover) 2. Step into Christmas (Elton John cover) 3. Last Christmas (Wham cover) 4. Christmas time (New upbeat track with everything thrown at it bells, choir the lot think Ed Sheeran and Elton John esque) 5. Dear Santa (Steps track from Tears) 7. Mary's Boy Child (Boney M cover) 8. A Steptacular Merry Christmas (Wombling Merry Christmas cover re-worded) 9. Rocking around the Christmas tree (Brenda Lee cover) 10. Happy Xmas War is over (John Lennon cover) 11. 1,2,3,4 (5678 reworded for Christmas with bells to make it more xmassy) 12. I wish it could be Christmas everyday (Wizzard cover) 1,2,3,4 lyric ideas Christmas time is here baby, it's driving us crazy The festive songs are playing, tinsels on the tree Kisses under mistletoe, sparkly wreaths are on the door Drink some wine it's Christmas time 1,2,3,4  could do a lot better with some more thought but you get the idea, and Lee's rap can be all xmassy stuff. A Steptacular Merry Christmas We wish you a steptacular merry christmas Open your eyes, look to the skies when you're lonely There will be stars shining for you Sleepers awake, it's getting late, snow is falling The whole wide world is dancing too All day long, it will be spectacular in the snow We wish you a steptacular Merry Christmas All day long, we will be laughing as we go We wish you a steptacular Merry Christmas Again you get the gist I am sure lol!
October 20, 20222 yr Author For me, no. I don't see it being a success and in terms of touring a Christmas album they'd only be able to do small venues. Maybe a one-off Christmas EP of originals but I wouldn't want a whole album of mostly Christmas covers by them personally. I very much see it as a side project with a small tour to accompany it anyway, something like the last Xmas tour - coming after a new album and arena tour. It would cater to the more die hard fans, as they struggle to continuously sell without having the nostalgia for big tours as we have seen, they could do several editions to boost initial sales individual Xmas covers etc (Lee in Xmas boxer  )
October 20, 20222 yr Oh, I see it as a nice side project as well. I would enjoy a campy and well produced Christmas album from Steps. It will give them some attention each year during Christmas and it could work as it’s not a ‘typical’ one as most are quite boring imo. Haha, you are on a roll SB! Contact the management and get this project going
October 20, 20222 yr I wouldn't mind it! It would definitely have to be an album that mostly embraced the uptempo, party and festive side to Christmas music. It's a little strange to think that Steps' only Christmas song that fits that brief is their cover of Merry Xmas Everybody, or at a push Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). Light Up the World the album didn't really give me Christmas so much as it gives Winter vibes. Only three songs out of 10 are actually about Christmas! And two of those are slow songs. Then we have Dear Santa from Tears on the Dancefloor that was yet another slowie. I feel like BMG would be great at handling a project like this and that it would do quite a bit better than Light Up the World. I do believe that a Steps Christmas album should be able to work in theory, it just needs to be fun! Christmas songs I think Steps could cover: Standard CD I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year (I'd have Lee and H on lead vocals, with the girls doing prominent backing vocals) Last Christmas (There's 3 verses to this song, and I'd have Claire, Faye and Lisa do one each. Lee and H on backing vocals and chorus vocals alongside the girls) Merry Xmas Everybody [Re-recorded version] One More Sleep (I think it would be good to have at least one song on here which is relatively contemporary... I struggle to imagine a version of this without Leona's vocals, although I'm sure Claire would sound great - but with a vocal interpretation that doesn't have any Mariah-isms) Santa Claus Is Coming to Town Step into Christmas Winter Wonderland Wonderful Christmastime (I can imagine Lisa being quite prominent on this one for some reason!) ^ As well as 4 original Steps Christmas songs, making it a 13 track album. Individual CDs, a track on each: Ave Maria [Claire solo] Blue Christmas [Lee solo] Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) [H solo; re-recorded version] Jingle Bell Rock [Lisa solo] Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree [Faye solo] (These songs would also be included on the digital deluxe version, so that they would be able to be streamed. Deluxe version would therefore have 18 songs.) And like Spiceboy says, it would have to be called Steps into Christmas!
October 21, 20222 yr Steps into Christmas would be a great title. I'm not a huge Christmas album fan but if steps did another one I would full upbeat fun and camp from start to finish.
October 21, 20222 yr Author Yess if it was camp! I love the idea of the post 2 up! Sorry you mistyped 5 up. :P :D
