I work in private education and am one of the few Labour supporters there it seems (sadly) however the feeling throughout the entire school was utter joy that Braverman is gone. Hopefully an indication that most Tory voters won’t side with a far right version of the party, god forbid!

I assume Braverman will be missed more by the radical Brexiteer style tories in comparison to the old fashioned tories from pre 2015. So Cameron’s appointment was on the one hand political smart in that it may ward off them losing too many so called Blue Wall seats in the south of England to the Liberals(they’ve likely given up the red wall completely) and so trying to get their base back.

Again I’m assuming you work in a private school which is full of these types of more liberal tories!

It's a sign they're abandoning the Red Wall and focusing on their core support, thinking they may be able to ride in the polls (I suspect they will, this always happens) but you feel the damage is done and it's going to be in the interest for the Brexiteer Tories to make sure Sunak loses. Starmer's Labour isn't given the Tories a single issue to unite upon currently, although I will be interested to see how Labour play this next behind the scenes.

Yeh true and why Andreya Jenkins resigned first as she is an arch right winger and sits in Leeds.

Β

With regards to Labour if Sunak can do the above I think they may regain a few seats as I don’t think people like Starmer much but as you say the damage is done for this election!

I'd think the wooing of the Blue Wall is too little too late. The right wing media may try to hype up divisions in Labour over Israel/Palestine but even then doubt that would seal the deal. People want the evil feckers out.

Thought it was hilarious when Bravermann and her supporters keep on banging on about how she voiced the views of the "quiet majority" that a recent poll says that the GBP approve of her sacking by 70% vs 17%.

Β

Loved that she left a scathing review of her time under Sunak  in all seriousness, I'm so happy she's gone. I've never heard of James cleverly but then I'd never heard of suella until she took over for petty either. I'd like to think he won't be as biggoted as either suella or petty although seeing how he has voted on social issues, he seems like another arsehole.

Β

I have no feelings towards David Cameron coming in. I mean I think the fact that sunk couldn't find someone else in his party to do the role kinda says it all but as people go, David Cameron is very innofensive unless your talking about Brexit in which case he led our country to the dogs and then ran away.

Cleverley is looked at as a moderate and loyal to the leadership. I personally think he’s one of the more capable tories hence why he’s onto his second big office (Foreign secretary to Home Secretary) albeit I don’t agree with his views.

Β

I don’t think it’s because Sunak couldn’t find anyone else to forfil the role it’s more the political effect it will have on southern Tory seats they may lose to the liberals following recent by elections. With regards to Smints point you may be right it might be too late to woo them but they will be easier to woo back and are more natural tories so will make a lot of people who don’t like Starmer but feel they have to change their votes this time fall back into the fold. Means they might have a base to build from for 2029.

Look at how amazing we are having reached our target to halve inflation this year. It's definitely all down to our policies and no, the increase to that ~10% rate was nothing to do with those policies and entirely down to external forces which we couldn't control.

The Rwanda policy going up in flames for the government is looking absolutely disastrous for them. Sunak's response to the High Court striking him down on his utterly ridiculous, unworkable and useless policy is to... introduce emergency powers to change the law.

This farce can't last, surely?

Basically the tories since they stopped being able to blame Labour for everything from 2014 onwards - always outside forces when things go wrong and their good work when things go right 😐

I know I was sure he would have broken with the right on that issue following the announcement but doubled down at PMQs so must be worried about the voters opinions!

So desperate to not lose support from the right of his party yet still deluded that this scheme which is both inhumane and utterly incompetent will get off the ground at all. It's truly pathetic to watch. When's that election x

Absolute rubbish. The Bank of England predicted inflation would naturally fall below 5% anyway but food prices are still up by 30% compared to 18 months ago. Inflation has been caused by corporate greed as a result of big companies putting up their prices to inflate profits and the government has done absolutely nothing to address it as usual. Policies such as Brexit have also contributed to price rises as a result of labour shortages and unnecessary red tape making it much harder to trade with the EU.

The stories that broke over the weekend regarding Suella Braverman's actions (or rather inaction) over the Manston immigration centre are just beyond disgusting to me. The contempt that those on the right of the Conservative party hold for fellow humans, and the joy they have at other's misfortune being compounded further is unbelievable sometimes. I hope she is removed from office soon, given that MI5 and the (Go) Home Office are already briefing against her I expect that we will be shot of her soon...

'soon'

Well it took over a year this time around, but it was still satisfying to see her getting sacked again. Hopefully that's the last we'll ever of see this dangerously unhinged and woefully incompetent politician in the British Government or any prominent position of influence tbh.

Agreed, but on the plus side it looks like she will now do all in her power to undermine the current government which will hopefully hurt their election chances further.

National Insurance cut happening in January is slightly odd don't you think? I think we're gearing up for a summer election. Can't see it being October/November with the US elections.

It definitely looks like he's aiming for a May election.

The supposed tax cuts will still leave most people worse off than they were when the Tories seized power. They are obviously aimed as a challenge to Labour, daring them to oppose the cuts or pledge to reverse them if they win the next election. I predicted this months ago. If, somehow, the Tories win the next election, these cuts will be reversed, even if it is in a disguised way such as an extension of the freeze in personal allowances.

James Cleverly being accused of calling Stockton North a s***hole at PMQs earlier today, in the context of a labour MP asking the prime minister why 1/3rd of children live in poverty in his constituency. Deplorable. Of course he vehemently denies it but you can quite clearly hear it on the audio.

Β

Hopefully another spanner in the works for the Tories polling.

The NI cut will mean less money for public services and basically reverses the Tories own policy by Johnson of increasing NI to fix social care. As a result, LAs will either have to cut services or increase council tax bills so we’ll all be paying more indirect tax next year. It’s clearly a misguided early election bride but it doesn’t fool me. It makes things more tricky for an incoming labour government as things will be even harder and tax rises will be needed to plug the severe lack in funding for our services.
