That's brilliant, thank you so much - I would never have found those two!

 

I missed out Jingle Bell Rock! Bobby Helms' version entered on 6 January 2022 as a cover to Max Bygraves' Christmas hit of 1959 which reached No 7, the same peak (so far) as Bobby Helms.

Bobby Helms' was the original though.

Easy to be fooled by changes in the song title: Canned Heat's Let's Work Together in 1970 was covered by Bryan Ferry in 1976 as Let's Stick Together, re-issued in 1988 and again made the Top 20. First entered on 19th June 1976.

 

Now up to 822 different Top 20 covers and 998 total covers in all versions to make the Top 20.

Added: Let Her Go / Passenger / 2013 covered as Let Go by Central Cee on 29th December 2022 - 823rd different Top 20 song to reach the Top 20 again by a different act and the 999th cover in all versions - provisionally. I have checked "A" to "M" so far, just over 8,000 songs out of 14,170 to date.

Metro Boomin, The Weeknd & 21 Savage - Creepin' is to all intents and purposes a cover of Mario Winans - I Don't Wanna Know, so with that added in, I guess Central Cee - Let Go becomes the 1,000th cover version. Oh joy :lol:

The "Yesterday" syndrome where McCartney woke up with the song in his head and was convinced for weeks that he'd heard it before until Lennon told him to go and record it - the working title was "Scrambled Eggs".

Hold on! Are not both songs based on the Fugees' Ready or Not from 1996, covered by Course the following year before Mario Winans changed the name? Comments please...

Enya yes, but it wasn't a single and it didn't make the Top 20 Singles, so the first track to reach the Top 20 was the Fugees' Ready or Not: The Course, Mario Winans and Metro Boomin' - covers or samples of the Fugees?

They all sample Enya so if you don't count Enya then none of them are samples... which would leave two separate occurrences:

'Creepin'' is essentially a cover of 'I Don't Wanna Know' (the rap verse was changed but it's still similar enough that it seems fair to call it a cover rather than just a sample).
