December 12, 20222 yr Author And another: from 1992, Kiss' cover of Argent's 1973 God gave rock and roll to you / God gave rock and roll to you II, albeit with somewhat different lyrics but still a viable cover. Added above.
December 12, 20222 yr Author Shayne Ward covered Nickelback's 2008 hit Gotta Be Somebody in 2010. Added.
December 14, 20222 yr Author Another one that got away: I Can Make You Feel Good - Shalamar 1982 / Kavana 1997. Added @ 506.
December 14, 20222 yr En Vogue Don't let go covered by James Hype as More Than friends Nightcrawlers push the feeling on covered by Riton as Friday Edited December 14, 20222 yr by fiesta
December 14, 20222 yr Author En Vogue Don't let go covered by James Hype as More Than friends Nightcrawlers push the feeling on covered by Riton as Friday That's brilliant, thank you so much - I would never have found those two!
January 15, 20232 yr Author I missed out Jingle Bell Rock! Bobby Helms' version entered on 6 January 2022 as a cover to Max Bygraves' Christmas hit of 1959 which reached No 7, the same peak (so far) as Bobby Helms.
January 18, 20232 yr Author Easy to be fooled by changes in the song title: Canned Heat's Let's Work Together in 1970 was covered by Bryan Ferry in 1976 as Let's Stick Together, re-issued in 1988 and again made the Top 20. First entered on 19th June 1976. Now up to 822 different Top 20 covers and 998 total covers in all versions to make the Top 20. Still checking alphabetically by title... Edited January 18, 20232 yr by Tuttavilla
January 20, 20232 yr Author Added: Let Her Go / Passenger / 2013 covered as Let Go by Central Cee on 29th December 2022 - 823rd different Top 20 song to reach the Top 20 again by a different act and the 999th cover in all versions - provisionally. I have checked "A" to "M" so far, just over 8,000 songs out of 14,170 to date.
January 20, 20232 yr Metro Boomin, The Weeknd & 21 Savage - Creepin' is to all intents and purposes a cover of Mario Winans - I Don't Wanna Know, so with that added in, I guess Central Cee - Let Go becomes the 1,000th cover version. Oh joy
January 21, 20232 yr Metro Boomin, The Weeknd & 21 Savage - Creepin' is to all intents and purposes a cover of Mario Winans - I Don't Wanna Know, so with that added in, I guess Central Cee - Let Go becomes the 1,000th cover version. Oh joy  Please, somebody, find one that's been missed from the list :(
January 21, 20232 yr Author Absolutely, thank you. I was listening to the Top 40 yesterday and I thought I'd heard it before without properly taking it in. The "Yesterday" syndrome where McCartney woke up with the song in his head and was convinced for weeks that he'd heard it before until Lennon told him to go and record it - the working title was "Scrambled Eggs".
January 21, 20232 yr Author Hold on! Are not both songs based on the Fugees' Ready or Not from 1996, covered by Course the following year before Mario Winans changed the name? Comments please... Edited January 21, 20232 yr by Tuttavilla
January 21, 20232 yr its enya's boadicea they all sample, both fugees and mario winans but the fugees and mario winans songs are different one thing you are always mixing is samples and covers, it's not the same thing
January 21, 20232 yr Author Thank you. Enya yes, but it wasn't a single and it didn't make the Top 20 Singles, so the first track to reach the Top 20 was the Fugees' Ready or Not: The Course, Mario Winans and Metro Boomin' - covers or samples of the Fugees?
January 21, 20232 yr They all sample Enya so if you don't count Enya then none of them are samples... which would leave two separate occurrences: The course is a cover of the Fugees Metro Boomin is a cover of Mario Winans
January 21, 20232 yr 'Creepin'' is essentially a cover of 'I Don't Wanna Know' (the rap verse was changed but it's still similar enough that it seems fair to call it a cover rather than just a sample). Calling it a "cover" of 'Ready Or Not' (or 'Boadicea') is a massive stretch, the only common element is the Enya sample.
January 21, 20232 yr You Should Really Know by The Pirates & Shola Ama also interpolates I Don't Wanna Know (and the Enya sample) as an answer song
January 22, 20232 yr Author They all sample Enya so if you don't count Enya then none of them are samples... which would leave two separate occurrences: The course is a cover of the Fugees Metro Boomin is a cover of Mario Winans Got it: Mario Winans is too far removed from the Fugees to be a cover only a sample. So we've got 2 covers here?
February 8, 20232 yr Author I am up to "P" and I missed Shaggy's 1997 cover of Erma Franklin's classic Piece of my Heart, which Beverley Knight also covered in 2006 (I did have that one). So we have reached 1,002 total covers now, 823 different songs out of 14,176 total Top 20 entries.
