Hey Joseph!!

Big catch-up alert x

Soaps: I got back into EastEnders around September-time this year (thanks to being intrigued by the trailer for the Mitchell flashback episode - hadn't regularly watched since 2015, I was obsessed as a kid/teen though haha), so after reading your words on it - I'm glad I gave it a try later in the year compared to earlier when you weren't feeling it so much  I'm working my way through everything from 2022 on iPlayer nevertheless to try and fill in gaps. I agree that the storylines you've mentioned have been strong points in recent times - it can still be gritty and pack an emotional punch when it wants to. Here's hoping 2023 will be a strong year for the show! Ready for the annual viral tweets about people wanting to know what's happened ahead of watching the Christmas episode + mentions of how iconic the 2007 Max/Stacey affair reveal one was x

Quiz Shows: The 1% Club is a fab favourite pick! It was a bit of a comfort show for me during sad times earlier in the year <3 I'm also a massive fan of The Hit List, of course *.* still gutted that our very own Bal and Rob couldn't quite make the filming of an episode

TV: New Drama: I think your #1 is the only one I've seen! I'm terrible for having several shows on the go and taking ages to finish them, but Heartstopper was pretty binge-able each day during mornings before work, so I actually got through that one quite quickly. I can see why it's connected with so many! The conversations around bisexuality definitely touched me a lot as there's not a lot of great representation out there. Also hyped for Series 2!

Strictly Come Dancing is my favourite mentioned from the other categories <3 I don't think it was quite as good as last year (they struck gold with Rose, John and AJ!) but it's still my ultimate comfort show for the winter months and I was thrilled that Hamza won *.* the judges do need to sort their scoring out a bit though :kink: also highly anticipating the return of The Apprentice! I'm obsessed with the 'upcoming' feature of TV Time, already pencilling in the next Eurovision for me and whatnot

I want to check out Stranger Things the most from the ones I haven't seen!

Also... Alison Hammond ftw x

Movies: Encanto is the only one I've seen from your list! I was really drawn to the songs that charted from the film and it ended up being a fun watch for sure. DRAWERS FLOORS DOORS *.*

Harry is my favourite musician mentioned in your artist-specific awards! I think his second album is still my favourite but Harry's House has produced some enjoyable songs too, especially 'As It Was' and 'Satellite' for me. Happy to hear that you had some really enjoyable touring experiences this year too - great photos!

Albums: I also listened to the Beyoncé, Years & Years, Tove Lo, Rina + Avril albums! Shockingly this is the first Tove album I've listened to (can't believe I haven't heard Lady Wood at the very least when I loved the singles, alas) - so, interesting that you think it contends for her best! The highs on it are some of my favourite songs by her to date - 'No One Dies From Love' and 'Pineapple Slice' especially <3 I think RENAISSANCE is probably my favourite body of work from these, was so good to finally have a new Beyoncé studio album *.* although the visuals are long overdue x

Looking forward to the rest of the albums and also songs kicking off!

Thank you so much Jade!! Glad there's so much you've enjoyed from my lists so far  EastEnders really has picked up at the end of the year so fingers crossed Christmas isn't a letdown, I don't think it will be at this rate! 2007's episodes just can't be beaten though *.*

Glad you found such comfort in The 1% Show, it's such an easy watch! Heartstopper has touched so many so I'm glad you're also one of those people! Strictly is of course a comfort watch and I always enjoy it, though I agree last year's is unbeatable! Highly recommend Stranger Things

The Encanto songs on the chart were among the most iconic hits of the year and they encouraged me to watch the film! Glad you've enjoyed Harry this year, I agree Fine Line was better though!

I'm delighted to see BORN PINK in your chart of course

I'd agree that Familia wasn't Camila's best so far but there's still some really great moments there. IUTTICF is a strong debut from Tate too!

Thanks so much Lewis!! I think each Camila album has been a bit less good than the last, but that's nothing against Familia which is still good.

Hi Joseph!

Some albums catch ups: Familia & Everything I Didn't Say are two good albums, and although they both had some very strong tracks, I was underwhelmed but both. I love seeing IUTTICF in here, its a contender for my album of the year and i think its such a great debut from Tate!

Hld The Girl up in the top 20 is great, i hope Rina has some more chart success, she desrrves it! and Love Sux is brilliant! a great album from avril!

I think I know at least a few of the albums still to come, wonder if they'll chart where i think they will or if i'll be surprised!

Thank you so much Conor!!

I really do need to give that Tom Odell album a listen as I've very much enjoyed both the songs I've heard from it! I've preferred this so far to the songs I heard from his last era.

I definitely recommend it! If you like the songs you've heard then I'm sure you'll like the album, it's very cohesive.

8 Taylor Swift - Midnights | 1-2-3-3-5-7-10-11-…

Taylor Swift is one of my favourite artists of all-time, but I honestly wasn't too fussed on folklore and evermore. It's not that I didn't enjoy them, of course, but both were a little samey and having heard both a few times, I still find it hard to distinguish most songs from each other. Thankfully, Midnights was a big step up. It's still not my absolute favourite Taylor album (Speak Now is by far my favourite!) but I enjoyed the more vibrant production and the variety in tempo and vibe of the songs. Anti-Hero is an excellent lead single and returned Taylor to #1 in my chart for the first time in three years, and there's plenty more to enjoy in the album tracks too, notably Bejeweled which made my singles top 40! Seeing it dominate the global charts in a way unlike Taylor ever has before was amazing, and truly deserved for one of the best artists around.

7 Charli XCX - CRASH | 1-1-1-4-4-5-7-8-7-12-12-13-15-x

There's something to be said about Charli's approach to pop music on CRASH. In general, Charli is one of the most interesting popstars around as she can vary wildly between commercial and leftfield, without really losing any of her core following. I prefer commercial Charli I must admit, so to hear a pop album as well crafted as CRASH was exciting. It's slick from top to bottom and perfect for the 2022 charts, without Charli losing a single bit of her identity. Charli doesn't chase the trends, she willingly embraces them in a feel-good album that saw Charli achieve her first top 40 hit as a lead artist in four years with Beg for You, which also returned her to the top spot in my chart. Seeing Charli live twice in 2022 was exciting - the CRASH Tour at Alexandra Palace was incredible and felt like a mini arena show! Not to mention the album reaching the UK #1 spot of course. Charli's such a star and I have no idea what's coming next from her, which is part of the reason she's such an addictive popstar.

6 ROLE MODEL - Rx | 1-3-3-4-4-5-6-7-9-11-14-12-13-14-15-12-x-15-14-12-1-7-7-11-12-13-x

One of the debut albums I was most intrigued to hear this year wad from Tucker Pillsbury, better known as ROLE MODEL, an American singer who achieved a trio of top 10 hits in 2021. Only one of those, forever&more, appears on the standard tracklist of this album, so there was plenty of new music to enjoy in this confessional release. Rx features themes of love and, quite interestingly, religion throughout the album. Tucker doesn't hold back on his honesty, with the raw and surprisingly intimate masturbation song, not to mention stripclub music, a song in support of sex workers. life is funny is the album's pinnacle for me, though, where Tucker compares contrasting people to Jesus and Satan while noting that everyone has their flaws and cracks. It's a brilliant album and without any real duds!

5 Conan Gray - Superache | 1-2-2-5-3-5-5-3-6-6-5-5-7-8-8-9-12-12-15-15-9-8-10-11-12-...

Conan Gray's Kid Krow was a powerful and emotional ride, but that was nothing compared to what he delivered on sophomore effort Superache. Emotionally charged throughout, Conan bears his soul on raw tracks like Family Line, where he discusses his upbringing, and Memories, where he talks about trying to move on from a lover that lingers in his mind. The drama is amped up to 11 and the album is all the better for it, as Conan finds his comfort zone in his craft. My only criticism is that bops Overdrive and Telepath were only included on the Japanese edition - I think places could've been found on the album for them but I do respect Conan's vision! I always play them after the album anyway :kink:

4 glaive - old dog, new tricks | 1-2-2-3-3-4-5-6-6-8-10-11-11-13-14-15-14-14-x-1-1-2-5-12-10-12-15-x

One of my favourite discoveries of the year, I discovered glaive through The Kid LAROI, who appeared at one of his gigs and they performed together. Intrigued, I checked out glaive's latest project at the time. old dog, new tricks is a reissue of the EP all dogs go to heaven, but with 13 tracks in total, I figured it should qualify for the albums countdown regardless of how it's considered. The entire project clocks in at just under 30 minutes though. The opening track 1984 is actually the longest, at only 2 minutes and 30 seconds! The project sees glaive branching closer towards a poppier sound (and its biggest hit in my chart was the poppiest track), but there's plenty of hyperpop elements thrown in from his earlier stuff among various other genres that he touches on. The song I've selected below is a surprisingly vulnerable moment from glaive; the title track from the original EP has my favourite lyric from the whole project in its chorus, "all dogs go to heaven, people don't because we're selfish."

3 Charlie Puth - CHARLIE | 1-2-3-5-6-6-2-2-4-5-…

I spoke earlier about how remarkable Charlie Puth's comeback in 2022 was, and the numbers surrounding this album in my chart back it up perfectly. A huge eight top 10 hits - two thirds of its tracklist - and Charlie's first #1 in over four years. The quality of the album speaks for itself, though. Well-crafted lyrically and sonically, Charlie created an album that's pretty much perfect pop music. There's not a single dud track, and it's still vulnerable and revealing in parts, but every song has an obvious hook, and through Charlie's newly-embraced geekery, he's crafted these songs from the most random sounds (e.g. a literal light switch). I hope Charlie continues to build on this momentum because he's set the bar so high with CHARLIE, which I'd firmly say is my favourite album of his now.

2 Alec Benjamin - (Un)Commentary | 1-2-3-3-2-4-6-7-8-8-9-8-9-10-7-2-2-6-8-10-10-10-13-13-11-13-x-15-x

My thoughts on Alec Benjamin's music have been well documented in these EOYs over the past few years, and (Un)Commentary is the perfect addition to what's an exceptionally strong discography already. Alec's songwriting is among the best in the industry right now, and once again he continues to write down observations and stories in catchy, optimistic pop tracks where his vocals and lyrics shine through. (Un)Commentary sees Alec branch out a sonically too, with Devil Doesn't Bargain boasting bigger production than usual, and Speakers building so anthemically. Lyrically, Alec tells the story of how one man's lies can spiral into disaster in the beautiful and gut-dropping One Wrong Turn, as well as the personification of nuance in, well, Nuance. Alec can do no wrong for me at this point and he's unlucky to have run into an even bigger force this year!

1 Harry Styles - Harry's House | 1-2-3-2-1-2-3-3-4-2-4-4-2-5-4-1-1-3-4-4-6-8-6-8-7-7-7-8-5-4-...

I'm sure all of you reading this aren't surprised by this. I'm not, either, but what is surprising is that this is Harry's first EOY #1 album! Harry's self-titled debut was beaten by Declan McKenna's album in 2017, while Fine Line's late 2019 release meant I couldn't, at the time, justify placing it ahead of Greyson Chance's portraits (though I would likely rank it ahead now). Harry's House had a clear shot at the top though, and it would've taken something pretty big to really rival it (read as: The Kid LAROI's long awaited album).

As I mentioned when I unveiled the "Best Era" award, Harry's House is the perfect comfort album. It's a cosy, warm listen, and it's not hard to see where the title came from. As It Was couldn't have been a better lead single, not just because of its chart dominance but also because it's a great intro track into the vibe of the album. There are highs and lows in terms of the emotions the album conveys, but the mood is reminiscent and comforting, and that can be found across all 13 songs on the album.

In my chart, Harry's House broke records. Harry became the first, and so far only, artist to lock out my top 10. In fact, he locked out the top 13 as the entire album charted there, knocking the previous week's #1 (Just Friends by Why Don't We) down to #14 in the process, a record-breaking fall other than Mariah Carey after Christmas! The songs that clicked with me the most included Little Freak, Matilda and Daydreaming, as well as Late Night Talking of course which debuted at the top that week. Harry's House obviously became Harry's third solo #1 album, and its global domination has been quite something.

I'm so excited to hear the songs live again next year as I've got a ticket for three of Harry's Wembley shows. Already, it's an album I'm turning to when my mood isn't that high and I just want something soft and comforting to listen to. I think Fine Line is a better album on the whole, with higher highs, but the consistency of Harry's House is perfection and it's very well deserving of being my album of 2022.

299 Metteson - Never Let Me Go | 16-x

300 Birkir Blær - Weightless | 24-16-x

I'm going to speed through the bottom half of this countdown basically and do quite a lot in one post as I don't want to drag out this year's countdown as much, but I also don't want to feel like I haven't commented in much detail! There's not too much to say about these anyway, most of them were one week wonders. Track #300 by Birkir Blær came from Scandipop and was a minor hit at the very start of 2022 but quickly dropped out when new music from the year filtered in. It's his only hit so far. Sickick's remix of Madonna's Frozen was also a hit at that same time. More familiar faces such as Jutes, HRVY, Troye Sivan and Carly Rae Jepsen make their first appearances, but not their last, while newcomer Eddie Benjamin pops up for the first time too.

289 AKRAS feat. Samuel Daayata - My Heart Will Go On | 13-x

290 P!nk - Never Gonna Not Dance Again | 18-x

Some more familiar faces pop up here. Underwhelming returns from P!nk and Justin Bieber serve up low EOY positions alongside a poorly performing Tom Odell track (though obviously I didn't hate it if it's in here!). Bella Poarch doesn't replicate the success she achieved in 2021 with Build a Bitch and INFERO, and Natalie Imbruglia loses her only entry for this year. GUS and Rina Sawayama both appear for the first time of four, the latter being (if I remember correctly) one of just five non-top 20 hits. A new hit from newcomer re6ce sneaks in at #281, while an effective one hit wonder in Bodin scored his biggest hit since he reached the EOY top 10 with So Good in 2019. The final song in this section is... a cover of Céline Dion's My Heart Will Go On, with Samuel Daayata on vocals (he has two prior top 10s to his name). It's a trash bop x

278 Benicio Bryant - Pretty In Pink | 18-x

279 Lauren Spencer Smith - Flowers | 16-26-34-x

280 Boy Bleach - Hold Me Down | 19-35-x

Still filtering through the one-week wonders for the most part. Some newer names in this section including boyband Boy Bleach and America's Got Talent contestant Benicio Bryant (with a double single release that I could hardly separate both at the time and 12 months on!). Familiar names pop up again too, including the first of two Ellie Goulding tracks and the only entries from Ciara, Louis Tomlinson and Selena Gomez. Michael Schulte's latest campaign has felt more than just a little (the lead single came out in MARCH 2021 and the album is only scheduled for May 2023!!!!!!!) but its title track is very lovely, as is my favourite song from Lauren Spencer Smith. The first Encanto song to appear rounds off this section; despite a low peak, Jessica Darrow's Surface Pressure was one of the most iconic chart hits of the year and I ended up really enjoying it after not being so keen at first.

Here are my favourites from your latest selection:

275 Michael Schulte - Remember Me | 19-32-x

276 Ellie Goulding - Let It Die | 18-x

268 Boy In Space - Downtown Juice | 19-x

269 Jordie Ireland feat. david hugo - Bad Days | 17-x

270 Harry Styles - Keep Driving | 11-x

The second of the two Michael Schulte songs is at the top of this section, while Isac Elliot, Benson Boone, Boy In Space and Harry Styles pop up for the first time each. Lots more to say on their songs later in the countdown, though Isac's is curious as it was released as a b-side to single Lowkey, but it's since been removed. Thank goodness I downloaded it! Malou Prytz pops up with the first Melfest song to appear in this year's countdown. The bonkers Bananas (with the hook B-A-N-A-nas) wasn't her best showing in the contest (quality or result wise) but it's a fun bop, as is BLACKPINK's Pink Venom. Jordie Ireland shed his one hit wonder tag after 3 years with a minor hit in Bad Days, as did Julian Perretta on a collaboration with Jonas Blue, who has a much bigger hit to come. The last song is one I discovered through a charting track from Sleepy Hallow. His track Die Young notably samples 347aidan's MEMORIES!, but I prefer the original so that charted for me!

259 Christian Birkenberger - For You | 16-35-x

260 HUGEL & Benjamin Ingrosso - Black & Blue | 21-17-28-x

After riding high last year with a dance collab, Benjamin Ingrosso teamed up with HUGEL this year. It didn't fare quite so well but it's a fun bop regardless! The first of three Jennifer Lopez songs from the Marry Me soundtrack appears in this section, while we also see the first of two songs each for Jacob Sartorius and Ava Max. Melfest's Faith Kakembo scored a slow burning top 20 hit with Freedom, while Big Brother US alumi Christian Birkenberger released a surprisingly solid single. David Kushner made his debut with the lovely (but depressing) Miserable Man, a second Rina Sawayama song drops out, and Hunter Hayes pops his head in for his only appearance of 2022. We also lose out first top 10 hit in this section. Rxseboy is best known for collaborations with Powfu and Sarcastic Sounds, though he achieved a top 10 without either of them in 2022. It was short lived but the song remains cute.

249 Anitta & Missy Elliott - Lobby | 16-24-16-32-x

250 James Smith - My Oh My | 14-32-x

Longer running top 20 hits start to appear now, with a current hit from Carrie Underwood (her first of four to appear), a great collaboration with Anitta and Missy Elliott that was the latter's biggest hit in 9 years, and a couple of tracks from Alyssa Reid's ASHS project, which you can definitely expect to hear more from later. Producer Kina enlisted Sarcastic Sounds for the sublime only in the night, while Andreas Wijk released a second Christmas song, this one outpeaking its predecessor by a huge 24 places. Jonah Kagen pops up again with two more appearances to come, and album tracks from Harry Styles and Alec Benjamin show up too. I also discovered James Smith last year, with the lovely My Oh My finally making some chart impact in January this year.

This Hell really is great  always good to see Ava too.
