"Break My Heart" is quite decent. Loved it when it came out that time.

ooh yay for Places Faces showing up here, indeed it samples Private Dancer which I hadn't heard myself before either but I figured from how the song was structured it had to have sampled something so went to google.

I wasn't so fond of Chemical High from Lost Frequencies in the original version however the Deluxe Mix got a few plays from me.

couldn't get into Clap Your Hands sadly despite being rather fond of Lipstick and Never Going Home, the kids vocals were a tad too annoying for me.

the Arctic Monkeys one had a rather lovely soundscape but ultimately is a bit too slow.

160: CoCo and the Butterfields - Love is Love (631pts)

NE (27/8/2022) 34-26-18-21-27-38-45-58-69-74-80-92-100-xx

CoCo and the Butterfields always put out a good tune, and this folk-pop track is no different.

159: Blossoms - Ribbon Around The Bomb (652pts)

NE (5/2/2022) 30-31-34-47-52-56-55-56-58-62-60-57-73-91-xx

I can't remember why they were wanting to put a ribbon around a bomb but it's a funky track nonetheless!

158: Andrew Ripp - Fill My Cup (653pts)

NE (23/4/2022) 32-25-20-17-31-32-40-48-58-70-85-xx

A very upbeat worship song highlighting our dependence on God, this was Andrew Ripp's first chart appearance for me but he does have another one coming up!

157: Arctic Monkeys - Body Paint (654pts)

NE (22/10/2022) 81-75-49-39-32-29-29-...

The highest Arctics track in my EOY this time round, it took me ages to get into this one but it is quite the earworm now I'm into it!

156: Still Corners - Black Lagoon (655pts)

NE (10/9/2022) 58-47-33-33-38-33-41-54-57-57-66-72-78-...

Another BJSC track, the dance beat works well with the vocals on this one.

155: Jao - Nao Te Amo (661pts)

NE (29/1/2022) 46-44-37-38-41-45-48-48-49-51-54-54-68-80-xx

One of the few foreign-language tracks in my chart this year, this one has a nice synth-heavy chorus.

154: Colorvault & Alex Taylor - Power in the Name (664pts)

NE (5/2/2022) 26-29-37-45-47-51-50-51-53-55-55-69-81-xx

Colorvault are definitely more on the 'experimental' side of worship music - this one only has one verse and chorus but it is a somping great track. It is your POWER!!!

153: Esther Chungu - Healing (677pts)

NE (29/1/2022) 42-36-30-32-44-50-54-53-54-56-58-58-73-97-xx

The only Zambian song in my EOY this year, it's quite mellow but also very enjoyable.

152: Sanctus Real - Won't Let Me Go (681pts)

NE (19/11/2022) 34-22-19-...

This one is still making its way up my chart, it's a worship song so you can probably guess what the song's about from the title!

151: Shawn Mendes - When You're Gone (685pts)

NE (7/5/2022) 71-31-42-46-42-42-43-51-61-72-73-71-59-67-77-85-99-xx

This really should have done better in the charts as for me it's one of Shawn's best! It also ought to have done better in my own chart, but its peak was the week before Eurovision so it got booted out before it had really started gaining momentum. Nice long chart run though!

150: Ball Park Music - Manny (689pts)

NE (12/11/2022) 73-33-19-20-...

This is also a lot more experimental than anything I've heard from Ball Park Music before, but I've grown to like it a lot.

149: John Yarde - Count Your Blessings (ft. Nathanael) (690pts)

NE (30/7/2022) 100-90-53-35-23-22-25-31-36-45-57-63-73-82-90-xx

I charted this not realising it had been released two years ago, oops. Anyway, it's still some good Caribbean beats.

148: Sam Fender - Alright (701pts)

NE (6/8/2022) 40-23-15-17-23-30-36-46-54-67-75-88-98-xx

More Sam Fender! This one was also very easy to listen to but didn't stick around as long as some of his others.

147: Our Atlantic Roots - Golden Hour (710pts)

NE (17/9/2022) 82-77-50-35-24-25-29-36-44-61-59-64-xx

British-American folk duo Our Atlantic Roots made a splash this year with this lovely song, which also took a while to grow but is also very cheery!

146: SAINT PHNX - Invisible (724pts)

NE (26/2/2022) 25-29-30-28-29-30-32-32-42-52-72-87-xx

I'm glad I looked this song up before writing about it as I was about to start writing about a completely different Invisible! This one is good though, very early '10s indie-pop (in fact the backing beat sounds very similar to something else!)

145: Bandicoot - FUZZY (727pts)

NE (19/2/2022) 78-90-100-50-21-17-19-19-20-29-37-50-66-91-xx

Some good old-fashioned pop-rock here! This one is a real plasure to listen to, very fun and playful.

144: The Kooks - Modern Days (727pts)

NE (26/2/2022) 29-28-29-27-28-29-31-31-41-50-66-76-xx

A very 2010s Kooks-y song from The Kooks, nothing new but still very nice!

143: Colton Dixon - Build a Boat (729pts)

NE (28/5/2022) 65-44-38-32-33-30-30-33-45-61-75-63-71-79-88-100-xx

This has recently hit #1 on Billboard's Christian Chart (as with everything on Billboard they take ages to get to the top!) - a very catchy song about trusting in God in all circumstances.

142: Dean Lewis - How Do I Say Goodbye (734pts)

NE (29/10/2022) 46-35-30-31-26-26-...

Fab to see Dean Lewis get another chart hit - this one is such an emotional one, songs about losing close family just completely get me.

141: Joshua Micah & Matthew Parker - Fade (741pts)

NE (5/11/2022) 76-37-22-17-21-...

A nice synth-pop track that's probably remeniscent of 5 or so years ago but still works just as well in 2022.

"Break My Heart" is quite decent. Loved it when it came out that time.

Glad you enjoyed it! Nico and Vinz work well on dance, they ought to do a bit more like this I think! Thanks ^_^

Fair enough - places faces was quite the entry! Thanks Dan ^_^

Was a bit gutted that Circus Mircus didn't make it into the final

I didn't hear it until after the Final but do wish it had been there now - thank Dalek!

Really like "Clap Your Hands", "Spit Of You", "Body Paint", "When You're Gone" (got so much airplay here in Germany), "Alright" and "How Do I Say Goodbye" (got high airplay in Italy) from your selection.

Great so far!

I think Ribbon Around the Bomb is my favourite from that section - the latest Blossoms album was probably my least favourite of theirs but that was definitely one of the highlights! Good to see lots of Sam Fender here too ^_^

140: Lukas Graham - Wish You Were Here (ft. Khalid) (747pts)

NE (10/9/2022) 24-29-23-24-28-27-36-48-53-66-77-83-87-...

The highest Lukas Graham track in this countdown amazingly! This was a decent song that did grow on me, although it doesn't touch their best music for me I'm afraid.

139: The Afters - Say Goodbye (Say Hello) (749pts)

NE (22/1/2022) 7-13-19-23-35-50-56-61-60-61-63-68-66-88-xx

This is very cheesy Christian pop but it does absolutely get me dancing around. Nice to see The Afters back as well!

138: George Ezra - I Went Hunting (750pts)

NE (16/7/2022) 94-79-70-61-34-29-25-24-28-34-39-49-64-70-80-92-100-xx

I think this was just a promotional single from Ezra, but it's quite different from the three he released, a lot more sombre and with less of a defined rhythm to it. Definitely recommend a listen if you haven't already!

137: Rend Collective - True In The Light (757pts)

NE (29/10/2022) 28-22-21-19-25-28-...

More Rend Collective here - this one really gives me 'sitting round a campfire' vibes, and the leading line 'what's true in the light, is true in the darkness' is really one to keep you going as well.

136: We Are Domi - Lights Off (768pts)

NE (21/5/2022) 10-14-16-19-24-30-45-56-66-76-87-xx

The second Eurovision entry here, this definitely deserved better than 22nd! But that's what happens when you send dance to Eurovision I guess, as it's a really good dance track.

135: Bear's Den - Blue Hours (773pts)

NE (23/4/2022) 96-54-43-24-28-26-23-23-26-37-52-62-74-81-93-xx

Another track from the Bear's Den album, this one is fab just like all the others with a great rhythm to it.

134: Kygo - Dancing Feet (ft. DNCE) (780pts)

NE (4/6/2022) 82-66-30-27-23-21-23-26-33-47-55-62-72-76-92-xx

A very pop-py track for Kygo but I think it works! Think this may be the first time DNCE have made an appearance in my chart as well.

133: CalledOut Music - Walk With Me (ft. IMRSQD & Sam Henshaw) (782pts)

NE (16/7/2022) 67-35-29-24-22-23-29-35-40-49-55-64-76-87-98-xx

A song I've mis-called 'Better Days' in all my charts, isn't it annoying when the name of a song isn't the obvious one implied by the lyrics! It's a great song anyway, three different vocalists but they all work well together on the track.

132: Mula - Ven Vamos (787pts)

NE (13/8/2022) 79-36-30-30-23-25-35-44-53-62-61-68-68-79-88-90-98-xx

My chosen 'Dominican Republic night' song, this one is absolutely one to get stuck into with a fab beat.

131: Milky Chance - Synchronize (790pts)

NE (7/5/2022) 90-14-17-17-18-20-23-29-41-49-57-68-82-99-xx

Milky Chance were rudely denied a Top 10 return by Eurovision but this is a fab track and completely different to anything I've ever heard form them before, beginning to bridge the gap between indie and dance.

130: Mac Powell - New Creation (806pts)

NE (8/10/2022) 18-12-10-12-18-24-35-42-52-...

This one was a pretty instant tune for me, with Powell talking about how Jesus could still change his life even after years of faith. It did drop off remarkably quickly though.

129: Ynys - There's Nothing the Sea Doesn't Know (810pts)

NE (8/10/2022) 89-44-33-26-24-27-23-27-34-...

Another song which is more mellow now, his voice is beautiful. I'm definitely going to keep checking Libertino Records for new music.

128: Matthew West - Me On Your Mind (817pts)

NE (28/5/2022) 88-20-17-16-18-24-27-29-33-46-59-67-76-84-94-xx

I only really havve a fleeting interest in Matthew West but do keep coming back to song after song of his! I love the humility in his songs, and they really have helped me with my own relationship with God.

127: Gang of Youths - In The Wake Of Your Leave (819pts)

NE (12/3/2022) 31-26-27-28-21-21-26-29-38-49-71-72-76-85-96-xx

Discovered this one from whichever indie song contest it was in (UP I think?) - it feels very free flowing but at the same time a real earworm, a fab song.

126: Kingdmusic - Protect Me (823pts)

NE (3/9/2022) 84-36-27-18-21-26-28-38-49-50-61-70-79-72-xx

Some more Afrobeats worship now, this one is lovely and really smooth to listen to.

125: Manor Collective - Shelter (ft. Becca Folkes, Tertia May & CalledOut Music) (833pts)

NE (14/5/2022) 84-63-31-24-21-20-20-26-29-31-39-53-70-81-90-xx

Manor Collective are a collective of British Christian artists of different backgrounds and ethnicities that have come together to make something quite spectacular. This is the first of two tracks from them in my EOY, a really refreshing piece to listen to.

124: Pa Sheehy & Sinead White - Surrender (858pts)

NE (10/9/2022) 83-50-42-40-37-29-26-30-34-36-47-55-60-...

Walking On Cars ex-frontman began his solo career this year - this is one of his tracks which didn't hit me instantly but I'm glad I kept giving it a chance as it's a lovely quiet piece.

123: Silbermond - AUF AUF (846pts)

NE (24/9/2022) 50-37-27-20-17-21-23-29-39-48-57-...

This is a very nice German dance-indie-pop song (I'm rubbish at putting songs into genres ) which is also quite the earworm and managed to crack my Top 20.

122: Amber Run - I Miss You (850pts)

NE (19/2/2022) 22-24-24-23-25-26-27-30-30-40-49-65-78-xx

One that doesn't stick in my mind that much, but giving a listen now I remember why enjoyed it so much, his deep voice really draws me in.

121: Gas Street Music - All I Want (Let You Love Me) (ft. Millie Ferguson) (864pts)

NE (11/6/2022) 33-27-16-15-16-17-22-31-41-51-57-64-73-88-100-xx

A very 'normal' contemporary worship song but that absolutely hit the mark for me, some fab vocals as well.

Genuinely thought Shawn's When You're Gone was going to be huge, then it just fizzled out :( a shame! Hard to see how he can recover now when a song that good doesn't catch on.

How Do I Say Goodbye is a big favourite

Great so far!

Glad you're enjoying all these songs - and thanks for the random facts as well! Thanks Sergej ^_^

I think Ribbon Around the Bomb is my favourite from that section - the latest Blossoms album was probably my least favourite of theirs but that was definitely one of the highlights! Good to see lots of Sam Fender here too ^_^

I didn't manage to listen to the whole album so can't comment on its quality as a whole but glad Ribbon Around the Bomb was a highlight for you! Thanks Ansel ^_^

How Do I Say Goodbye is a big favourite

Yeah, I really would've liked to have seen it be big! Glad you're a fan of How Do I Say Goodbye as well - thanks Joseph!

that Mula song sounds rather interesting, especially with the beat switch in the middle.
Lights Off has definitely become one of my favourites from this year's Eurovision! I watched with my housemates and we were all so surprised it ended up so low in the results.

This is why, apparently!

'Ribbon Around The Bomb' is a metaphor and alludes to how people try to dress things up which have an underlying darkness lying beneath them. Things and people can be delicate yet also destructive – sometimes at first glance, things are not what they appear to be.

120: DVBBS & Galantis - When The Lights Go Down (ft. Cody Simpson) (865pts)

NE (29/1/2022) 44-51-52-42-42-40-43-44-45-47-35-35-37-41-54-68-94-xx

DVBBS and Galantis are in general quite different genre-wise but their two sounds work quite well together on this one.

119: Said The Sky, ILLENIUM & Chelsea Cutler - Walk Me Home (866pts)

NE (25/6/2022) 54-31-22-19-18-18-27-32-38-45-47-60-73-79-88-99-xx

Another BJSC one here, this continued to grow on me after the contest and I really like the build-up to the chorus here.

118: Little Boots - Landline (887pts) NE (11/12/2021)

41-42-51-56-43-35-32-35-34-36-44-59-67-74-72-73-76-81-81-xx

Another very catchy track from Little Boots, the chorus is very standard but the way she goes about the melody in the verse is great and really grabs me.

117: Daphne Richardson - Heavy (890pts)

NE (23/4/2022) 97-48-35-34-50-53-56-64-56-67-78-66-54-49-55-66-74-58-66-74-85-97-xx

We're getting into songs I really wish I could squeeze into my Top 100 now! 'Heavy' is a real power worship-ballad that took me a while to fully grow into but I really can't get enough of.

116: for KING & COUNTRY - Love Me Like I Am (893pts)

NE (5/3/2022) 19-13-13-14-17-17-17-22-23-33-51-76-86-100-xx

Another great worship song here, you can probably guess what the song is about from the title again!

115: Tom Grennan - Remind Me (895pts)

NE (23/4/2022) 51-35-16-12-16-19-22-27-35-35-49-61-71-80-91-xx

This would probably have cracked my Top 10 if not for Eurovision but Tom really came back with a bang with a track which is a lot more dance-y than his usual stuff but is still very nice.

114: SHEAFS - Millennial (899pts)

NE (16/7/2022) 56-16-13-12-17-19-21-28-33-41-51-59-73-82-95-xx

Every year we need some sort of shouty indie track and this year is no exception - this one really got me going with its repeating 'FIXED ON' refrain.

113: flor - Gotta Do Something (907pts)

NE (25/6/2022) 72-53-47-32-23-20-23-25-30-38-36-41-51-56-67-78-90-99-xx

Another case of 'ok chorus, very nice verse' here! I think flor have had a hit or two in my charts before but I haven't kept them on my radar, this is very nice though.

112: Amongst Wolves - Fall Down (909pts)

NE (19/2/2022) 13-17-20-20-22-22-24-25-27-35-45-61-73-xx

A bit more 'experimental' here from Amongst Wolves, as the song doesn't really get going until maybe the last 30 seconds! The song tells the story of someone being dragged down by the devil but knows to cling to God in the rough times.

111: Rend Collective - We Need The Love Of God (920pts)

NE (10/9/2022) 27-26-26-25-24-23-28-33-38-47-53-60-65-...

Another Rend Collective track drops out here, very reminiscent of them and the title tells you a lot about the song!

110: Cade Thompson - Arms of Jesus (939pts)

NE (2/7/2022) 22-17-16-20-26-31-40-45-46-54-71-60-61-68-71-68-77-89-98-xx

This one is nice, very comforting and a reminder to rely on Jesus to hold us in the tough times.

109: Casting Crowns - Desert Road (960pts)

NE (22/1/2022) 26-22-21-20-23-31-35-36-37-38-39-42-43-56-70-87-xx

Casting Crowns had some great songs out this year, and this was one of the best, focussing on keeping faith even when God takes me down paths that aren't what I'd have hoped for.

108: Stephen Stanley - Rest In The Father (974pts)

NE (22/10/2022) 66-36-33-25-20-18-17-...

Five worship songs in a row - that definitely wasn't intentional! Whilst Stephen Stanley has appeared quite a bit in my chart, my discovery of this one was completely coincidental whilst listening to Spotify on shuffle, but like so many other songs really spoke into my life. Definitely worth a listen!

107: Foals - 2am (975pts)

NE (26/2/2022) 35-22-22-24-25-26-29-24-23-24-26-30-53-66-78-87-98-xx

The only Foals track in my countdown this year, it's quite similar to Wake Me Up in the way it goes about itself and also pretty easy to get into.

106: Philip Jonathan - In The Garden (976pts)

NE (30/4/2022) 51-36-42-59-54-60-71-69-78-88-76-75-69-64-74-82-78-81-91-xx

RE (17/9/2022) 96-xx

Another song I'd have loved to see in my Top 100! The gift that kept on giving as its folk-y sound really drew me in and never really went away.

105: Mutemath - Love Light A Way (981pts)

NE (5/3/2022) 46-49-49-50-52-48-49-28-20-15-16-29-40-47-55-64-79-xx

Another artist I'd never really heard before but this one also grew on me loads, a really nice slow-paced track that builds and builds.

104: Pa Sheehy - Through The Fields (983pts)

NE (29/1/2022) 36-46-33-28-26-30-32-33-34-35-38-38-47-59-55-69-95-xx

The highest Pa Sheehy track in the countdown, Through The Fields is a decent ballad that speaks of remembering those who have gone before.

103: Ian Yates - Back To You (985pts)

NE (16/7/2022) 77-50-22-14-15-18-16-21-26-33-37-46-60-66-75-84-92-xx

Aaand the highest Ian Yates song in the countdown, this is a very stripped-back acoustic track but I think that works very well with a song focussing on keeping God center when so often Christians argue over things that don't really matter.

102: Vance Joy - Catalonia (988pts)

NE (30/7/2022) 16-10-9-12-14-17-19-23-31-41-49-61-67-77-85-97-xx

NOT the highest Vance Joy track in the countdown but still a very cheery song which I assumed was about a girl but is actually about the people of Catalonia which is nice!

101: Sam Hibbard - Come Away (988pts)

And also not the highest Sam Hibbard song, this is a nice worship song that definitely rode high off the back of Rebel Heart being a tune but is also great in its own right.

that Mula song sounds rather interesting, especially with the beat switch in the middle.

Glad you enjoyed giving it a listen - the beat switch is indeed pretty nice. Thanks Dan ^_^

Lights Off has definitely become one of my favourites from this year's Eurovision! I watched with my housemates and we were all so surprised it ended up so low in the results.

Glad you enjoy it so much! It really would've been great to see them get higher (and they formed in Leeds which is a bonus!) Thanks Jade ^_^

This is why, apparently!

Ah fair enough! An interesting metaphor. Thanks Whoddy!

When You're Gone was a great release from Shawn. I think his days as a 'big' artist are behind him now though.

When The Lights Go Down is awesome too

Hey Pete :hi:

'SPACE MAN' is another strong choice of 'mainstream song of the year' ^_^ it felt surreal to witness the U.K. doing so well in Eurovision, but Sam certainly sold that performance.

My top favourites revealed in your top 200 so far:

185: David Kushner - Miserable Man

177: altrice - places faces

167: Arctic Monkeys - There'd Better Be A Mirrorball

163: Circus Mircus - Lock Me In

127: Gang of Youths - In The Wake Of Your Leave

107: Foals - 2am

Justice for Circus Mircus -_- I enjoyed how zany that entry was. I haven't gotten around to The Car yet but 'There'd Better Be A Mirrorball' was a gorgeous, cinematic lead.

I need to check out that LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER (great band name indeed) song as I loved Aelandor's BJSC entry by them and other recent song 'We'll Find A Way'!

And so we begin! I'd been aware of Red Rum Club for a while before really giving them a chance with this one, but it really is nice. I can't get the 'reasons made up on the spot' refrain out of my head, and whilst the brass is a bit less prominent on this track here, it's still very present. And the great thing about doing this EOY is me finding out that the artists I've listened to have new music out - these guys released something last month so that's going straight onto my playlist!

I'm so glad I gave this song a chance, as it didn't do much for me on first listen, but as I listened more and more I began to love it more and more, as the message of following God even when it feels like His ways aren't the best ones really got me through earlier in the year. I used to sing the chorus of this song to myself a lot just to remind myself of that truth, a really beautiful piece.

This is probably a bit lucky to be in my Top 100, but a combination of my point-estimation algorithm and the fact it's a song most people will know has caused me to let it sneak in there. It's a very nice tropical house song with Sam's fantastic vocals (as always), would've been nice to see it sneak the Top 40 but sadly not to be.
