Thanks for this as ever Gezza!

I'm sure the discrepancy has been explained before but remind us why your total for Queen is so much lower than the OCC's? (They posted an article about it passing 7 million a while ago!)

The OCC split the sales of "The Platinum Collection" between the three GH sets whereas I don't (which explains 800k of the difference, the rest would come from how the OCC got the sales from the pre 1994 period plus what conversion they use for the 94-96 period. I use the higher figures and for the 80s the reported sales wheras I suspect the OCC will be using the record company shipment figures.

Thanks for this Gezza. Great that Olivia climbed into top 5 without any new singles this year.

Resists the obvious Flopele comments!

Think '=' going to no.1 is almost entirely due to the 'releasing new singles and adding them post release strategy' and little reflection on people enjoying the original album of songs released back in 2021.

Good to see that the top 5 are all studio albums released 2019 or later, even if playlists are doing much of the propping up for most of these too nowadays. Thanks for the thread Gezza!

I figured it might have been from the GH box sets but I forgot the sales of that in its own right were so high!

... what conversion they use for the 94-96 period. I use the higher figures ....

So why does Liam.k. give a higher figure for Oasis?

Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (#1, 1995) 5,263,000 [15/07/21]

And would be even higher by 5/1/23.

Your figure is much lower at 4,963,100.

Isn't the total for Diamonds wrong? I have it much higher (1,083,000)

I don't use the higher figure for that album. That's because it came out in late 95 and whilst it is still lower than the original figure there is less of a variance as the difference between panel sales and DUS was less so it will matter less than in 94 or early 95 in terms of overall sales. Liam's may be higher than mine for that reason.

I applaud you Gezza for managing to keep up your interest levels and dedication to the charts forum during the sad demise of the album chart :(

Despite the state of the album chart will be interesting to see how this progresses. The Top 5 will all be gradually declining meaning something like Queen or Elton could end up as the biggest “seller” of the decade.
  • 2 years later...
  • 2 weeks later...
I did think about updating this but I reckon it would require too much work, particularly for 2023 when I wasn’t tracking the album sales.
