January 18, 20232 yr Author What, so Spain can be absolutely obsessed with English and everyrhing UK but the UK cannot? But Spain is not, usually there are like 2 or 3 songs in English in the Spotify top 100, and the highest is probably at #59
January 20, 20232 yr Indeed. It pains me that the likes of La Tortura, Antologia and Inevitable are unknown to English audiences. The sheer amount of amazing songs on Dónde Están los Ladrones?... I LOVED La Tortura back in the day! And it was a hit in Continental Europe actually. I definitely remember it being played a lot on radio and MTV. From the more recent staff Chantaje should have been big too. Anyway I’m happy it charted at 31! It seems to be its peak and possibly the only week in the top-40, but the fact that it got there in the UK is amazing.
January 20, 20232 yr I saw this article today oops https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/jan/...ist?amp;amp;amp
January 23, 20232 yr The writer of that article is a f***ing moron. I think she has every right to also be angry at the new woman he cheated on her with, I know I would if I were in that position.
January 23, 20232 yr The writer of that article is a f***ing moron. I think she has every right to also be angry at the new woman he cheated on her with, I know I would if I were in that position. It's The Guardian. I've read 3 articles from 3 different 'journalists' on there recently and they are all f***ing morons. :funky: Edited January 23, 20232 yr by Megan_
January 23, 20232 yr It's The Guardian. I've read 3 articles from 3 different 'journalists' on there recently and they are all f***ing morons. :funky: To be fair, the Shakira thing isn't a Guardian 'article' by a journalist - it's a reader's letter.
January 23, 20232 yr This is great anyway - I'm not particularly invested in the Shakira/Gerard drama (and I don't really pay much attention to lyrics in English songs let alone Spanish ones :kink:) but the actual song is a banger, love the multiple beat switches and Shakira's voice sounds great. She's put out some absolute garbage in the last few years (looking at 'Me Gusta' and that one BEP collab whose name I have forgotten and don't care to look up - the first one, although 'DON'T YOU WORRY' also wasn't great x) so this is a great return to form, thrilled to see it making a rare breakthrough to the UK market for a Latin song. Vol. 51 & 52 were both bops too so Bizarrap is on a good streak here x
January 24, 20232 yr Debuts at #9 on the Hot 100 after being on Bubbling Under from 1 day of tracking last week - Shakira's first ever top 10 debut and her first top 10 hit since 'Beautiful Liar' in 2007 (today I learned 'She Wolf' stalled at #11 in the US!)
January 26, 20232 yr Debuts at #9 on the Hot 100 after being on Bubbling Under from 1 day of tracking last week - Shakira's first ever top 10 debut and her first top 10 hit since 'Beautiful Liar' in 2007 (today I learned 'She Wolf' stalled at #11 in the US!) Great to see Shakira back in the US top 10.
January 26, 20232 yr Author Oh wow amazing! Just found this site with her US discography, which is more extensive than I thought: Whenever Wherever/6 Underneath your Clothes/9 Objection(Tango)/55 La Tortura/23 (Shakira ft Alejandro Sanz) Don't Bother/42 Hips don't Lie/1 (Shakira ft Wycleef) Beautiful Liar/3 (Beyonce & Shakira) Te lo agradezco pero no/124* (Alejandro Sanz ft Shakira) She wolf/11 Did It again/105* Give it up to me/29 (Shakira ft Lil Wayne) Gypsy/65 Waka Waka/38 Loca/32 (Shakira ft El Cata) Rabiosa/110* (Shakira ft Pitbull) Get it started/89 (Pitbull ft Shakira) Can't remember to forget you/15 (Shakira ft Rihanna) Empire/58 Dare/53 Medicine/116* (Shakira ft Blake Shelton) Mi verdad/119* (Maná ft Shakira) Try everything/63 La bicicleta/95 (Shakira & Carlos Vives) Chantaje/51 (Shakira & Maluma) Deja vu/107* (Shakira & Carlos Vives) Me enamoré/83 Perro Fiel/100 (Shakira & Nicky Jam) Clandestino/115* (Shakira & Maluma) Me Gusta/116* (Shakira & Anuel AA) Girl like me/67 (Black Eyed Peas & Shakira) Te Felicito/67 (Shakira & Rauw Alejandro) Don't you worry/122* (Black Eyed Peas, David Guetta & Shakira) Monotonia/65 (Shakira & Ozuma) Bzrp Music Sessions vol. 53/9 (Bizarrap & Shakira)
January 26, 20232 yr Author and here is her UK discography: Whenever,Wherever/2 Underneath your clothes/3 Objection(Tango)/18 Don’t bother/9 Hips don’t lie/1 Shakira ft Wycleef Jean Illegal/34 Shakira ft Carlos Santana Beautiful Liar/1 Beyonce & Shakira She Wolf/4 Did it again/26 Waka waka(This time for Africa)/21 Get it started/64 Pitbull ft Shakira Can’t remember to forget you/11 Shakira ft Rihanna Empire/25 Bzrp Music Sessions Vol. 53/31 Bizarrap & Shakira
January 26, 20232 yr Get It Started should have been a huge top 10, not sure why it flopped given it was during Pitbull's peak era and it was produced by RedOne!
January 26, 20232 yr The one that baffles me is how 'Loca' wasn't released properly, I was certain at the time it would be a massive smash (especially featuring Dizzee Rascal who was pretty much man of the moment at the time) Not that it's a great song or anything, but they really let that one slip through their fingers.
January 26, 20232 yr Did It Again deserved better. She’s been quite unlucky chart-wise, what with Waka Waka missing the top 20. What a shame about Illegal flopping, they didn’t really try with that era post-Hips Don’t Lie though did they? And quite surprised to see she has so many more US charting singles than UK, I always felt like she was slightly bigger here. Although I suppose a lot of those US-only entries are post-2014 Spanish tracks so if you look at the English hits only that’s probably still true

January 26, 20232 yr But Spain is not, usually there are like 2 or 3 songs in English in the Spotify top 100, and the highest is probably at #59 Tv shows, films language, people actuslly PREFSRRING TO SPEAK IT IN THE STREET AND AT HOME. Spanish literature is dying due to everyone studying and reading English literature, etc etc. Obsessed.
January 26, 20232 yr Te Felicito was a no.2, Chantaje was a no.1, and Lo Hecho Esta Hecho not being released?! Surprising single stats.
January 26, 20232 yr Tv shows, films language, people actuslly PREFSRRING TO SPEAK IT IN THE STREET AND AT HOME. Spanish literature is dying due to everyone studying and reading English literature, etc etc. Obsessed. Mmm, I have no idea where you live, but definitely TV shows are not in English, movies are dubbed, there are barely any cinemas that actually show movies in original version and no one reads English literature lol
