Posted January 18, 20232 yr We're promised a celebration of hits across Madonna's four decades in music - which hits are you most wanting to see performed? Any old gems that haven't been performed in years? Any staple tour songs that you'd like to hear again in (perhaps) their original form?
January 18, 20232 yr I really want to hear Hung Up done properly, ABBA sample and everything. I *think* that's a reasonable ask, even for 2023 Madonna.
January 18, 20232 yr Author I really want to hear Hung Up done properly, ABBA sample and everything. I *think* that's a reasonable ask, even for 2023 Madonna. Yes to this! As if it’s been 10 years since it was performed on tour (with that terrible auto-tuned rendition). Just give me a complete copy of the Confessions version, complete with choreography and she can perform Candy Shop for the rest of the concert. (You just know we’re getting the ‘Hung Up on Tokischa‘ version).
January 18, 20232 yr Opener - Music Closer - Like A Prayer Power of Goodbye Everybody would also make my list!!!!
January 18, 20232 yr Dream setlist: Spotlight Dear Jessie Rescue Me This Used to Be My Playground Bad Girl I'll Remember Take A Bow Bedtime Story You'll See One More Chance I Want You Another Suitcase in Another Hall The Power Of Goodbye Nothing Really Matters American Pie What It Feels Like For a Girl Hollywood Me Against The Music Love Profusion Hey You Broken Ghosttown Crave Levitating Material Gworrlllllllll Hung Up On Tokischa Back That Up to the Beat
January 18, 20232 yr Author I love 'The Power of Goodbye' but I can't even find a good performance of it from 1998, never mind think of what it might sound like in 2023. She always sang it with too much force, I think she would have to completely strip it back and give it a delicate vocal, a bit like how she sang in the acoustic performances from the Rebel Heart Tour.

Madonna 2023 singing ballads gives me nightmares. Edited January 18, 20232 yr by tommie
January 18, 20232 yr WHERE TO START! I will attempt a full setlist in time but in my dream world, every studio album would have at least one song representing it, so it is a celebration of her career as a whole. Absolute musts are: Hung Up, Frozen, Open Your Heart, Papa Don't Preach, Like A Prayer, Ray of Light, The Power of Goodbye, Don't Tell Me, Deeper and Deeper, Vogue, Into the Groove, La Isla Bonita, Borderline, Celebration... the list goes on! More fringe choices are: some inspired album tracks, Jump, Girl Gone Wild, Oh Father, Nothing Really Matters, Ghosttown, Miles Away, Rain, Give It 2 Me... ARGH too many :drama:
January 18, 20232 yr Author Crazy to think 'Borderline' has only been performed on two concert tours considering it's often cited as a favourite from Madonna's earlier work! I really enjoyed the performance she did on the Jimmy Fallon Show in 2017 so I'd be happy to see it on the setlist. A lot of her 80s stuff has either been ignored or not given the chance to properly shine in recent years: 'Into the Groove', 'Live to Tell', 'Papa Don't Preach' and 'Open Your Heart' (only performed on 3 tours!) for instance. I want to hear these and I want them to be recognisable. 'Beautiful Stranger', 'Sorry' and '4 Minutes' have only had one proper outing on tour despite being huge hits - love all three! I like that Madonna wants to represent as much of the parent album when she tours, but it is the same songs that pop up ('Holiday' and 'Like a Prayer' are there without fail and she really loves 'Human Nature' and 'Candy Shop').
January 18, 20232 yr i would love Borderline !!! she has so many hits it is not easy to get them down to 20
January 18, 20232 yr I think this will stick to being a true hits tour so I’m expecting something along the lines of: Celebration Music Vogue Into the Groove Dress You Up Material Girl Open Your Heart Live to Tell Justify My Love 4 Minutes Ray of Light La Isla Bonita Don’t Tell Me Frozen Papa Don’t Preach Like a Virgin Express Yourself Holiday Crazy For You Hung Up Like a Prayer Less likely but maybe… Borderline Power of Goodbye Ghosttown Medellin? Human Nature Take a Bow Secret Erotica Deeper and Deeper Girl Gone Wild Lucky Star Rescue Me Hollywood Don’t Cry For Me Argentina You’ll See Beautiful Stranger Die Another Day Cherish
January 19, 20232 yr ^ make that the setlist! Borderline would honestly be such a moment, especially if (as she says) she wants to celebrate the 4 decades - this is a moment from the debut, where it all began for her, so I really hope she pays it the respect it deserves. Will probably just be Holiday though?
January 19, 20232 yr The Power of Goodbye, acapella x 20 times with her making uncomfortable eye contact during every long note.
January 19, 20232 yr I've been wondering what a good opener would be. It would make sense for it to be EVERYBODY, as that was her first single, but I don't know if that has the oomph to be first out of the box. HOLIDAY would be a good shout as her first big hit. Or maybe just go for something iconic like VOGUE and really blow it away from the outset. LIKE A PRAYER is almost guaranteed to be the closer, surely? Edited January 19, 20232 yr by CJK

Or maybe just go for something iconic like VOGUE and really blow it away from the outset. LIKE A PRAYER is almost guaranteed to be the closer, surely? 'Holiday' seems to be a favourite of Madonna's to close her tours as it was the final song on Who's That Girl, Re-invention, Rebel Heart and the Tears of a Clown shows. It was also the penultimate song on Blond Ambition and Drowned World, as well as the final song before the encore for Girlie Show. 'Like a Prayer' has surprisingly never closed a tour - it was the penultimate song on MDNA and Madame X but she favoured new songs as the final song. I could see it closing this greatest hits tour though. I feel like Madonna will want the tour to reflect the journey of her music career so starting with one of her earlier songs could be likely. I don't think the set list will be chronological but I could see there being a sexual act, a spiritual act, a political act etc.
January 19, 20232 yr I cant see her ignoring Everybody! It was her first single and its not that hard on the vocals!!
January 19, 20232 yr I hope we have a ballads section - Rain, The Power of Goodbye, Crazy for You, Take a Bow, You’ll See, Ghosttown - any of those and I’d be very happy
