November 8, 2025Nov 8 Author 7th November 1993It's a second chart-topper of 1993 for The Bee Gees, as the gorgeous ballad For Whom The Bell Tolls becomes their 6th number one, 7th if Robin Gibb's Saved By The Bell is included, in which case they have already had number ones in 4 different decades in my charts. I also bought the album in Florida - cheaper than the UK - on my 3rd Theme Park holiday there. Going to the USA was exciting then - records not out in the UK, TV series like Deep Space 9 and Next Generation way ahead of their UK debut, and some shows never broadcast in the UK.Jimmy Durante gets his first posthumous top 10 (but not his last), As Time Goes By outdoing the Dooley Wilson original in 1977, The Levellers getting a rare top 10 with the upbeat tribal This Garden, and Captain Hollywood Project leap up a whopping 64 places to 8 with More And More. Janet Jackson adds another top 10 with Again at 9 and Bowie can still do it 21 years on as Miracle Goodnight peaks at 10.Cilla and Dusty have a 60's-icon duet with Heart & Soul - a shame that wasnt a hit, it's jaunty enough and it was nice to see Cilla off the telly and singing again at 23 in my charts. Wet Wet Wet Shed A Tear at 48, it's a ballad (of course), laid-back (natch) and mildly pleasant actually. James, meanwhile, get Laid at 51. 2 years into their run of quality singles, with no end in site. Elton John has a covers duets album out, and calls on Kiki Dee, old chart-topping chum, to cover True Love of all things. It wasn't bad, it just seemed a little under-whelming for Kiki's comeback chart hit. The original Crosby/Grace Kelly track is good though.Whitney Houston is Queen Of The Night, one of her better upbeat dance tracks, at 55, Sting returns at 72 with a rather good cover of Demolition Man, surprisingly exciting for Sting's solo career, but not as this was originally a Police album track goodie, and is now title theme for a Wesley Snipes movie of the same name. I think Grace Jones covered this one too, so it's got pedigree. A forgotten goodie as Sting hits 14 years of charting. Neither Sultans Of Ping nor Guru ring a bell, though it's nice Dee C Lee gets a credit 8 years on from See The Day.1 ( 9 ) FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS The Bee Gees2 ( 2 ) PLAY DEAD David Arnold/ Bjork3 ( 1 ) LIFE Haddaway4 ( 3 ) YOU OWE IT ALL TO ME Texas5 ( 4 ) GO WEST Pet Shop Boys6 ( 20 ) AS TIME GOES BY Jimmy Durante7 ( 19 ) THIS GARDEN The Levellers8 ( 72 ) MORE AND MORE Captain Hollywood Project9 ( 12 ) AGAIN Janet Jackson10 ( 21 ) MIRACLE GOODNIGHT David Bowie11 ( 5 ) RELIGHT MY FIRE Take That / Lulu12 ( 7 ) RELAX Frankie Goes To Hollywood13 ( 6 ) BUMPED Right Said Fred14 ( 8 ) STAY Eternal15 ( 11 ) MOONLIGHT SHADOW Mike Oldfield16 ( 10 ) PASS IT ON Bitty McLean17 ( 23 ) PAYING THE PRICE OF LOVE The Bee Gees18 ( 18 ) CRYIN' Aerosmith19 ( 35 ) RING OF FIRE Johnny Cash20 ( 53 ) FEEL LIKE MAKING LOVE Pauline Henry21 ( 13 ) GANGSTERS The Specials22 ( 15 ) MICHELLE The Beatles23 ( NEW ) HEART AND SOUL Cilla Black and Dusty Springfield24 ( 29 ) LEMON U225 ( 36 ) JULIA Chris Rea26 ( 16 ) CHRONOLOGIE PART IV Jean-Michel Jarre27 ( 37 ) DON'T BE A STRANGER Dina Carroll28 ( 68 ) COMIN' ON The Shamen29 ( 14 ) TURN ON TUNE IN COP OUT Freak Power featuring Norman Cook30 ( 39 ) I'D DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE (BUT I WON'T DO THAT) Meatloaf31 ( 33 ) THE RIVER OF DREAMS Billy Joel32 ( 22 ) NOW I KNOW WHAT MADE OTIS BLUE Paul Young33 ( 17 ) BREAKDOWN One Dove34 ( 27 ) ONE GOODBYE IN TEN Shara Nelson35 ( 25 ) OB-LA-DI-OB-LA-DA The Beatles36 ( 31 ) RIGHT HERE (HUMAN NATURE) SWV37 ( 24 ) CHAIN REACTION Diana Ross38 ( 52 ) GOT TO GET IT Culture Beat39 ( 70 ) GIVE IT UP The Goodmen40 ( 49 ) U GOT 2 LET THE MUSIC Cappella41 ( 41 ) WILD WOOD Paul Weller42 ( 28 ) THE GIFT INXS43 ( 60 ) BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY Phil Collins44 ( 26 ) MY BOY LOLLIPOP Millie45 ( 42 ) BOOM! November 11, 2025Nov 11 The first single "Through The Years" spent 4 weeks in my chart and peaked at # 11. My retro chart was started with 1970 year, so it didn't include her 60s big hits. My favourite Cilla single is "Something Tells Me (Something Is Gonna Happen Tonight)" , "Best single of the year" for 1971.

November 17, 2025Nov 17 Author 14th November 1993 2nd Florida chartIt's back on top for Go West as I continue with Theme Park Fortnight, plus the Florida Keys (see songs heard on the radio lower down) and as US radio hits bring a lot of new tracks and re-entries for previous UK hits. Madonna suddenly leaps back up to a new peak of 8 with Rain and Toni Braxton debuts at 9 with Another Sad Love Song. Haddaway, US3, Ace Of Base, Culture Beat, Janet Jackson, Shaggy, Inner Circle, Gabrielle, Robin S, Mariah Carey, Gin Blossoms and 10,000 Maniacs all benefit from returning due to pop radio plays.New tracks include Dwight Yoakam's country cover of Elvis' Suspicious Minds from a current movie, Honeymoon In Vegas, in at 34, Tears For Fears' Break It Down Again new at at 37, both tracks pretty good and the former should have been a UK single and hit. November 24, 2025Nov 24 Author 21st November 1993It's the last few days of the Florida holiday, and a few days back in the UK, so the chart is a mix of both scenes with more re-entries, and the Bee Gees return to the top spot for a second week as they appear live on TV doing oldies. Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 1985 number 2 returns to reach the same peak as highest new entry, just ahead of US hit Ooh Child from Dino, a remake of a fairly obscure early 70's goodie. Great song, and a US hit both times.Hot on Florida pop radio, Blind Melon enter at 6 with No Rain, by this time I was recording stuff off the radio direct onto my radio/cassette recorder, so lots of period goodies I really should post online for nostalgia. Back in the UK, Kate Bush has Moments Of Pleasure in at 7, the usual classy stuff - and who knew there would be nothing much for another 15 years! Soul Asylum also big in Orlando, and leap to 9 with the fab Runaway Train. Meat Loaf finally cracks the top 10 with his Monster hit, 12 years on from Bat Out Of Hell doing it.The Doobie Brothers, criminally, never had a UK hit with Long Train Runnin' though Bananarama bagged a cover version, which has no doubt helped the remix finally chart and in here at 15 - it's good, the original is better. Lisa Keith, fresh from the US charts, leaps in at 18 with Better Than You, and Lonnie Gordon is also getting airplay there and returns at 25. Bazza Manilow gets the remix treatment too, Could It Be Magic popping in at 40, having gone top 10 in 1979 for me.Belinda Carlisle is laying down her arms at 50, Mr. Big cover Wild World to lesser effect than many before, Heart ask Will You Be There In The Morning, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince return with a new track, I'm Looking For The One To Be With, at 59, it Feels Like Heaven to Urban Cookie Collective, Terence Trent D'Arby is new at 62 with Let Her Down Easy, ahead of Crowded House's Nails In My Feet, 3 Tony's getting another chart entry, Michael Bolton crooning, Bryan Adams, Sting and Rod Stewart collaborating on a movie dirge, Jodeci and Guns'n'Roses all getting US plugs, and in the UK The Orb and Def Leppard pop in from the charts. Cyndi's version is good but Roy O will always win in a song version contest between him and N.E.1 Else for me! 🙂
November 29, 2025Nov 29 Author 28th November 1993It's a third week on top for The Bee Gees, as the first full week back in the UK brings a serious challenge new in at 2 with the single mix of I Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind Of Thing as the 3rd single from the Very album. Kate Bush meanwhile is still grabbing top 3 tracks 15 years on from Wuthering Heights. The Doobie Brothers get a second top 10 as Long Train Runnin' '93 outpeaks 1979's What A Fool Believes. Also new, at 12, is a childhood fave from The Beatles 1965 TV special, as multiple artists and themselves cover the Beatles song-book in live performances. Including comic actor Peter Sellers decked up as Lawrence Olivier in full Richard III outfit talking A Hard Day's Night to a medieval lute backing. Not just funny, an accurate imitation, but it's quite sweet too. This 7-year-old liked it anyway! So it finally makes my charts.David Bowie gets a helping hand on guitar from Lenny Kravitz on his pretty good TV series theme tune, Buddha Of Suburbia, in at 22 and a nice change of pace from Bowie. In at 27, Daryl Hall is now solo and in a Marvin Gaye groove on his version of Stop Loving Me Stop Loving You, which is terrific and should have been bigger. k.d Lang keeps the run of classy tracks going on Just Keep Me Moving at 32 and Lulu drops her soul cover of Champaigns 1981 hit, How 'Bout Us, as the latest track off her good Independence album at 35.Saint Etienne are saying goodbye with some great stuff in 2025, but their rather good I Was Born On Christmas Day has never become the radio staple annually that it deserves to be, crowded out by American streaming company ancient songs that were never popular in the UK while lesser big UK hits dont get a look-in. New at 44. M People are also into early 80's covers as they do a decent job with Don't Look Any Further at 54, originally charted for Dennis Edwards and Siedah Garrett. The Wonder Stuff, meanwhile, are Full Of Life at 60, not heard that one in 32 years. It's quite jolly.Lenny Kravitz gets his own solo entry at 64, Is There Any Love In Your Heart, away from Bowie, and back in rock mode. It's not bad but you'll never hear it anywhere. I certainly haven't, which is a minor shame. Go West remix their 1985 debut, We Close Our Eyes, far too soon for me to get nostaglic about it, so it pops in at 69, ahead of 2 Unlimited's Maximum Overdrive as they start to run our of steam. Coasting On Drive, maybe. Paul Young drops a mildly pleasant ballad, Hope In A Hopeless World at 73, as his run of hits start to enter lower in the UK charts.Zhane, fresh from the US, enter with Hey Mr D.J. at 74, and some sweet r'n'b sounds, while the British version of soul is at 75 for Scousers The Christians into their 9th charting year, on The Perfect Moment. December 1, 2025Dec 1 There was a popular dance track sampling 'Don't Look Any Further' last year - Too Cool To Be Careless by PAWSA but I still prefer the M People version.A '93 remix of 'We Close Our Eyes' then - I remember the Groove Cutters sampling the chorus in a top 40 hit in 2005.'Maximum Overdrive' not one of 2 Unlimited's best songs imo. December 2, 2025Dec 2 I Was Born On Christmas Day was # 1 in my weekly chart. But there are so much great Christmas tracks (old and modern), so Saint Etienne single weren't included in my all-time top 40 Xmas songs. That list is very unique, it didn't have any big hits and even more non-mainstream than my other charts. Only Girls Aloud - Not Tonight Santa and Britney - My Only Wish are popular enough + lovely Little Things, which sadly didn't became Christmas hit.
