Inspired by the wonderful thread in the 90s forum by Dandy*, and also because I promised Rob I would, I am going to slowly make my way through my 213 personal chart No.1 singles of the 2000s.

That averages out at just over 20 a year, but some years had more than others, with no less than 30 in 2000 (still considerably less than the UK chart!) and only 16 two years later in 2002.

Please join in, follow along, comment, share your memories of the songs or have a listen if you don't know them. There are plenty of big UK hits, obscure tracks, Eurovision songs and much more. I will post a bit about each one as I go along and at the end of each year will post my No.2 hits from that year, as well as my other favourite songs that didn't make my top two at the time.

1/30: The Corrs - No Frontiers (2 non-consecutive weeks at No.1)

Kicking off the new millennium, and following a then record 11 week run at No.1 at the end of 1999 for Alice Deejay's Back In My Life, Irish family quartet The Corrs scored their first of many No.1 hits in my chart (the chart only started in July 1999, otherwise Runaway would have been a huge chart topper a few months earlier). No Frontiers was a cover of a song by Jimmy MacCarthy that was made famous in Ireland by Mary Black in 1989. The Corrs covered the song for their Unplugged MTV concert and album in 1999, unsually giving Sharon and Caroline a chance to share vocals. A beautiful piano number that remains one of my favourite live performances of theirs.

In fact, the first five songs were not UK singles, but are all by acts who had UK No.1 hits with other songs...

Lots of recognisable songs after that though.

2/30: ATB - My Dream (2 non-consecutive weeks at No.1)

A bit of a back and forth at the top between No Frontiers and ATB's My Dream is the way 2000 kicked off for me. Another hangover from 1999, My Dream appeared on German DJ Andre Tanneberger's debut album Movin' Melodies and was his third No.1 for me, following 9PM (Till I Come) which had three weeks at No.1 in summer 1999, and Don't Stop, which had a week at the top a few months later. My Dream is a different beast to those two, an instrumental of more than 7 minutes, aside from a short vocal clip of the title every now and then. The track starts slowly but finally builds with gorgeous synths about 1:45 in before the main melody finally arrives 15 seconds later. Not a commercial track by any means, but a banger and one I have always loved. Movin' Melodies was such a great album - my 10th favourite album of all-time no less - and songs like this helped it to such lofty heights in my affections.

Thanks Addy! Lots of pop and dance here, I was a bit of a Eurodance nut up to about 2003 when things started to develop (the genre slipped out of fashion and relevance a bit really and the quality dipped), but some different genres and sounds dotted throughout as well!

Looking forward to this!

I love the retro countdowns on this forum but don't have much nostalgic feeling towards anything, being born in the late 90s. So I expect a noughties one to transport me back a lot more in places.

3/30: Eiffel 65 - Living In A Bubble (1 week at No.1)

So, the second of three No.1s for Italian dance trio Eiffel 65, following Blue (Da Ba Dee) which topped my chart for three weeks in late summer 1999 after I bought the import CD single before its UK release. I waited patiently for the UK release of Move Your Body (which actually did not top my personal chart), and on the b-side was a megamix of songs from the upcoming album Europop. Needless to say, I was hyped by what I heard, particularly by the unusual plucked strings sound of Living In A Bubble. When I eventually got hold of the album and heard the track in full, complete with an unexpected rap from reggae artist Papa Winnie, I fell in love and the song headed to the top of my chart...although only for 7 days.

4/30: Christina Aguilera - Blessed (1 week at No.1)

Now onto the first chart topper for the legendary Christina Aguilera, shockingly enough the classic Genie In A Bottle peaked only at No.5 in my chart, despite the high regard I hold it in now, but I was always Team Christina, and I checked out her debut album soon after it came out. A big fan of the pop ballad, the standouts for me were Reflection, I Turn To You, and Blessed, as well as all of the singles. All of these were big hits in my chart, but it's Blessed - also the UK b-side to Genie In A Bottle - that topped my chart. It's a lovely little song, sounds extremely dated now and the ballads on Stripped a few years later sound a lot slicker and bigger. I do still hold a soft spot for the 90s muzak ballad sound of this though.

5/30: Eiffel 65 - Too Much Of Heaven (1 week at No.1)

Finally we make it out of album track territory, onto...a single that was never given a UK release. The third No.1 for Eiffel 65 was Too Much Of Heaven, a completely anthemic track with a rap verse leading to a beautifully melodic bridge and a killer chorus. I did eventually get the CD single for this, as it was released in many countries, Wiki telling me it peaked at No.2 in Italy and went top ten in France, Greece and Romania, also making the top 40 in Germany. I suspect if it had been issued as a third single after Move Your Body - which hardly disgraced itself as a top three hit in the UK - then this would have gone top 20 at least here. I don't understand why they just stopped after two...but anyway, enjoy what could have been.

6/30: Mariah Carey feat Joe & 98 Degrees - Thank God I Found You (2 weeks at No.1)

Now, the first UK top ten hit shows up. Taken from Rainbow, the follow up to Mariah's UK top five hit Heartbreaker was a rather soulful ballad, Thank God I Found You, featuring the dulcet tones of R&B singer Joe and boyband 98 Degrees. The track was given a makeover (see video) by Stargate for the UK release and turned it into something quite special for me, and a very, very underrated song in Mariah's discography, despite the fact it managed to creep into No.10 in the UK. It also reminds me of my first ever holiday abroad, to Tenerife, as I bought the CD single at the HMV at the airport (yes, we used to have those) and was hammering it on my Discman all the way through the holiday.

On the b-side is the Make It Last remix, which samples...Mariah's own track Can't Let Go, and turns it into a really cool, very different sort of track feat Joe again and also Nas that I'm equally fond of. It's a bit like those 2002 J.Lo remixes, in the respect that they were turned into completely different songs with only the title in common. Either way, the package was No.1 in my chart for two consecutive weeks.

The only one I know is the Mariah Carey single, and though that wasn;t a biggie for me she did top my chart with the Xmas song in 1994, and almost did it with Dream Lover and Fantasy in the 90's. Christina's biggest was Dirrty for me, but Genie In A Bottle was a top tenner. Corrs topped my charts in 2003 with the equally-little-known cover of Lee Hazelwood/Nancy Sinatra's Summer Wine (with Bono) so fingers-crossed you rated that one..... :) I've spoken to Jim Corr backstage at the Radio 1 Roadshow in Bournemouth circa 1998 (and Shelly Nelson's mum). Do I get any brownie points?

Shelley Nelson's mum! Wow, I always thought her daughter should have had a bigger career. That roadshow sounds amazing, presuming it was Tin Tin Out with her, and The Corrs, I wonder if that's where they met and got the idea for the What Can I Do/Runaway remixes?

Yes I like Summer Wine. More chart toppers for Mariah, Christina and The Corrs all to come...all more well known than the songs so far too.

interesting to see an ATB album track make it to #1 here!

the two Eiffel 65 tracks are... a lot less to my taste than their two actual UK hits, they were clearly better at doing novelty dance than outright pop.
