Even though this top 3 has been on lock for what...a month? Idc because it's iconic and the best top 3 I can recall in recent years!

Yeah, its a month now, Miley is coming for her 5th week. I must admit the top 3 is not that bad, its a shame RAYE could have held it far longer, with Miley Cyrus releasing a week or 2 later.

Most of all, it's a shame and unfortunate about that Lewis Capaldi thing.

And the unfortunate Christmas songs blocking it for well over a month

The 'Valentine's Day #1s' (lol) would be the ones that are there right now applying the same definition as for the Christmas #1!

Hope PinkPantheress can snatch top 3 by the end of the week, also would not complain at Coi Leray going top 10 (getting close to outpeaking 'The Message' (#8) now!) And nice to see Linkin Park so high at the moment, I think they'll be good to stay top 40 especially as they had a pretty small drop today on Spotify. Hopefully they can even stay top 30?

UMG conspiring to deny RAYE this oh so sought after accolade :'(

Potentially yet ANOTHER stagnant week in the Top 10 with six tunes already having notched up 10+ weeks on the chart.

I can't understand how week after week the Top 3 songs keep generating streaming values in the same order. And it's not just these current tunes, the amount of stagnation on a regular basis is astounding.

It's actually the most likely permutation when it gets down to it. The top 3 is a good example of how this can come to be. Even ignoring that "Flowers" has been way ahead for weeks now, why should "Escapism.", the song it dethroned (more or less, don't @ me) have any reason to get back ahead of it. Similarly, how should "Kill Bill" suddenly overtake "Escapism." with so much ground to make up and no reason to suddenly do so. If you think 'oh, there should be another new smash hit by now', then that's a different story but in any case, you can use this distant top 3 as a means to rationalise any further stagnation lower down the chart, just smaller versions of the same situation.

I do think on the whole though, whenever a big #1 smash tears through the gates, this sort of situation is more likely to happen, not just because one position of the chart is fairly locked up, but because it dominates the conversation and gives less reason for labels to try to make a push for a less obtainable top spot.

The chart has been mostly fairly static ever since streaming took over really. A chart based on what people listen to will always be slower moving than a chart based on what people buy as preferences just don’t move on that quickly.

Having said that I can’t remember a 5 week locked Top 3?

It's only happened twice before - first in 1954:

1 Doris Day - Secret Love

2 Johnnie Ray - Such A Night

3 Billy Cotton and his Band - Friends And Neighbours

and most recently in 1977/78:

1 Wings - Mull Of Kintyre / Girls' School

2 Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band - Floral Dance

3 Bee Gees - How Deep Is Your Love

pretty sure PinkP will be at least #3, possible #2

today she's only 9K behind Miley on Spotify even if Sunday is the slowest day of the week on streams

I was expecting Pierce The Veil to be a little higher tbh, they've got some pretty big venues on their upcoming UK tour and last reached #17 in 2016. But alas.

Full update above!

11,286 are also given for Anti-Hero at #5... not sure whether that means Miguel at #5 or Taylor at #6
