See I would have thought that there would be more fanfare if they are going to be announcing the act tomorrow not just a quick mention at 5 in the morning. I wonder if tomorrow will be the announcement of the announcement and someone got their wires crossed. A reveal on The One Show tomorrow night could be possible.

One of my close friend's knows Mae and he is saying it is definitely her...

:(

But we have Ellie insiders who have said rhe same about Ellie!!

But an actual friend of hers, hmm :( If it's her, I guess the BBC had a big say in the entry this year

I'm in the minority thinking Mae's snippet sounds good?? :kink: :kink:

I like the sound of it too, it's catchy and I can totally hear it in the charts.

But, just based on the clip, I can also hear why people are predicting it for bottom five in the contest and are annoyed. I can't see it being massively competitive really unless it has an incredible draw and staging and even then, I'm not sure it's got much for juries to flock to and there are more obvious options for the televoters.

Also, Rina has been very cheeky over the last few weeks making out like it could be her.

To be fair a couple of pop entries in previous years from various countries sounded very bland only to be brought up by the staging. The lyrics have iconic moments so it's not like it couldn't be elevated from that too.

I see Mirror also reporting Mae Muller to be the entrant with I Wrote A Song. This should be set I guess.

Definitely Mae - the fact they’re easily able to sing along to it on first listen, and Greg’s starts singing ‘du’.

Based on the clip, it does feel like something everyone thinks is a ‘Eurovision song’! It is very basic though, I can’t see it doing well at all. I think I’d have taken all of the other rumours over this.

(also kinda think they’re doing with Mae what they did with Raye, all personality washed away in favour of dancepop songs.

Of course it’s Mae. Snatching defeat from the jaws of (potential) victory is VERY on brand for 21st century UK in Eurovision.

Yeah Mae has a great personality and some fantastic songs - at least she did when I saw her live in 2020. The edges have been shaved off her a bit presumably to get her onto dance features and into the charts.

She had a great song out in 2018 called Jenny, which was very Lily Allen, and the first I heard of hers.

Back to bland entries and terrible results I guess.

Really when you think ‘Space Man’ was hardly groundbreaking and different and very safe and sat very much in what the BBC were already sending. It wasn’t an embarrassment but the studio version didn’t sound like a winning song either. It was Sam’s performance that brought the song to life paired with his great attitude throughout the whole process that got him the result. I have my doubts whether the BBC wanted to win last year or really just wanted a low top 10 result and say they have somewhat turned it around from disaster the year before.

I was disappointed by Space Man at first so I won't totally write Mae off just yet, but it'll definitely will be underwhelming after several better rumours. The performance will need to be on point though.

Is it too late for Rina to announce she's representing the Vatican City...?

It’s a bit B Grade “New Rules” but I certainly don’t think this is even close to taking us back to our bad old days. It’s got the legs to do well and I believe TaP know what they’re doing.

Having lived through Electro Velvet, Michael Rice and James Newman, I'd be loathe to put Mae Muller in that category of the "UK norm". I also think the fandom has completely failed to manage expectations and thinks that coming second once means we're now going to be top 5 every year which is completely unrealistic. Part of me buys that the goal of this winning is more as a launchpad/accelerator for Mae Muller's career with a big domestic/possibly continental hit than necessarily to do the double which would have been near enough impossible.

All that said...this IS exactly the sort of thing that accidentally comes last since juries can't see much to reward in it and televoters have other, better options.

This is my main worry.

I would go out on a limb and say I Wrote A Song sounds better than... every single song that was put forward for Eurovision: You Decide. We were desperate for Legends by Asanda to be picked and this sounds MUCH more professional than that.

The point of contention and concern is that we're in a much better position now, following on from Sam and the fact we're hosting this year, it feels like there's good will towards Eurovision for the first time since the turn of the millennium (or close to this anyway). Not only this, but it can be seen as a viable platform for a successful career - it's given Sam a #1 album, Brit awards nominations, performing with Queen etc. I really do fear that if Mae Muller comes 24th this year, which going by the preview does sound like a realistic possibility, that we just wind up back at square one again and all that good will is undone.

I'll keep my hopes alive they can make lemonade out of these lemons though - if she can perform it well and sing well, then we've got starting blocks. And the song does sound like something that could inspire good staging, not just standing on a block with styro foam horns.
