Fat BG's deserved better, I'm guessing the lyrics havent weathered well (and there was much discussion at the time, though more for the Bicycle Race video), though TBH it's only cos the word Booty (which has been ever-present in rap lyrics for years) hadnt been invented. I can vouch that a lot of straight men love an ample booty and that ain't ever gonna change and it sounds less judgemental than the old version...

I think we’ve done really well with that Top 20 - nice job all!

Any predictions for what the Top 5 will look like?

I'm going slightly Mad' is quite heartbreaking when you know that Freddie was going through the late stages of AIDS at time of release. They had to shoot the video in black and white so his illness wasn't too visible. :(

20th - Hammer To Fall, 1984

Score: 576

Average score: 28.80

Lowest: 12 - dandy*

Polyhex entry:

22/09/1984 Queen Hammer To Fall 13 19-{13}-19-28-37-53-72->7

This was the 4th single from "The Works" and featured in the film "Highlander". It was part of their Live Aid set the following year. It's an upbeat and energetic song, especially considering that it's actually about death.

I can vouch that a lot of straight men love an ample booty and that ain't ever gonna change and it sounds less judgemental than the old version...

Screw the male gaze -_- :kink: in all seriousness I'm not particularly offended by 'Fat Bottomed Girls', just find the lyrics a bit naff more than anything, I'm more of a "Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me" girl than "left alone with big fat Fanny, she was such a naughty nanny", it seems :kink:

Intrigued to see where 'Innuendo' will end up, would love a top 10 position but with so many classics in their repetoire it might be a tall order.

19th - Seven Seas Of Rhye, 1974

Score: 593

Average score: 29.65

Highest: 50 - Popchartfreak

Lowest: 4 - Bjork

Polyhex entry:

09/03/1974 Queen Seven Seas Of Rhye 10 45-30-15-15-11-{10}-14-17-36-50->10

This was the group's 3rd ever single and the 1st to chart. An instrumental version was included on their eponymous debut album and the track as we know it appeared on the follow up "Queen II". It was performed on "Top Of The Pops" in February 1974 before being released on vinyl, and subsequently picked up by Radio 1.

It was Popchartfreak's 50 pointer, meaning he is the first voter to lose their top scorer.

18th - Love Of My Life, 1974

Highest: 50 - chartjack2

Lowest: 8 - gooddelta

Polyhex entry:

14/07/1979 Queen Love Of My Life 63 {63}-70->2

This was originally included on the 1975 album "A Night At The Opera". It later became a concert favourite, and then a live acoustic version appeared on the 1979 album "Live Killers", and this version was released as a single. It remains their only Top 75 hit not to break the Top 40. Considering all the other 55 songs in this rate were bigger hits this one has punched above its weight really, and was chartjack2's top pointer.

oh I really like Love of my Life, the other 2 I cannot say I recall how they go :)

Polyhex entry:

13/05/1989 Queen I Want It All 3 {3}-5-9-18-31-53-73->7

This was the lead single from "The Miracle" in 1989, hence being so eagerly anticipated that it had a first week peak in the 80s. The song was never played live until after Freddy's death. It has since been used as an Anti-Apartheid and gay rights protest song.

This was the lead single from their 1980 album "The Game", and their first American chart topping single. Apparently Freddie wrote it in 10 minutes as an Elvis tribute.

'Hammer to Fall' nothing groundbreaking but very catchy'. Slightly disappointed 'Seven Seas of Rhye' so low - love that swirling piano although the 'Oh I do like to be by the seaside' ending is a bit naff. 'I Want it All' do love the heaviness on it.
7 seas of rhye far too low, as is Love Of My Life - the seaside romp at the end of a banging glam-tinged rock debut for Queen was a great camp ending signalling that Queen weren't your run-of-the-mill Rock Band. 7 Seas Of Rhye had a vision of theatricality about it and their debut on Top Of The Pops was a show-stopper for me. Instant fan, 3 of the next 4 singles topped my personal charts. I was an instant fan of 3 new bands in 1974: Queen, then Abba, then Sparks, all in the space of 3 months. When you're right, you're right....!
