Looks so good! Gonna be a huge smash I think!

Gonna be an interesting weekend… a potential movie masterpiece vs the new Christopher Nolan movie x

I'm still not sure what to expect and whether I'll want to watch, but the teasers have been very well done and I like that they're still not giving anything away, and I've got faith in Greta Gerwig after her take on Little Women, Margot Robbie is also the best possible choice for Barbie.

I cannot escape all of the promo posters today  not one, not two, but THREE different actors from Sex Education featuring in this *.* it's fairly amusing that both Margot Robbie and Emma Mackey will be starring in the movie as I've seen them compared as lookalikes on several occasions lol. I'll probably give it a go as it seems potentially fun. (always a Bratz girl at heart though xx)

edit: 56,000th post <3

I just saw the trailer for this and I'm still not too sure what to think of it. I probably wont see it at the cinemas but may check it out on tv when it gets to streaming.

Agree Margot Robbie is the perfect choice for Barbie.

I don’t know what to think about this. My first thought is Barbie movie no thanks but then the cast is stellar so I am like ok this could actually be excellent!

New trailer!

Wasn't keen on any of the teasers at all but I think this has sold me on it! *.*

'If You Hate Barbie, this movie's for you' *__

Guess that confirms they're going for a Truman Show/Lego Movie vibe which I did hear rumours of, hopefully can live up to that standard!

If a group of lads went to the cinema on 21st July and had to watch either Barbie or Oppenheimer, they’d more likely watch Oppenheimer. I’d only watch Barbie with a female whether it’s a friend or family member
Either Oppenheimer or Barbie needs to be brought forward a week not just to avoid competition but also, there’s no new releases this Friday

It's clearly intentional they're being released together - they are complete opposites in style and it gives a box office battle (I think Barbie will win, but it'll still hopefully be a huge selling top 2), plus it generates buzz and publicity when cinema in general desperately needs right now with the amount of box office disappointments recently.

Also, I will happily watch Barbie on my own as a single male ngl x (it's Greta Gerwig, she's not one for brainless chick flicks)

I think a Barbenheimer Wikipedia page existing is testament to how effective this battle has already been

(I think I’ll go and see both, I’ve really not been to the cinema enough this year)

I'm sorry for their toxic masculinity that they can't enjoy a female fronted film without the fear of being judged!

I’d watch it by myself and not give a shit about what others think

This is going to be massive (to the surprise of nobody)

It's currently tracking to do $93m+ in the US (and official reviews aren't out yet!). Original box office predictions had it at $55m

You're raging about ToXiC mAsCuLiNiTy because of a hypothetical situation, lol.

I think a lot of men will want to watch Barbie because Margot Robbie is wearing tight, skimpy outfits. MiSoGyNy!!!

No. Hadji literally assumed men would automatically opt for 'Oppenheimer'. Which is presumptuously sexist. Nothing to do with the men who "hypothetically" watch 'Barbie' for whatever their reason will be (yes it IS shallow & misogynistic).
I think both films appeal to different demographics, but Barbie will win pretty easily.

Both films skew to different demographics - Barbie is clearly aimed and marketed at females under 35, whilst Oppenheimer is aimed at men over 35. But it's also very fair to suggest if you are a man, you might enjoy barbie and if you are a woman, you might enjoy Oppenheimer. Personally, I'll be seeing both films.

I don't think it's a box office race, both films are targeted to different audiences and will have different goals from the Studio. I dare say, Barbie will be a much bigger hit than the Studio anticipated, mainly as it's marketing has been on-point, it feeds in to TikTok and by all accounts, the reviews will be strong.
