Biography

“I never really think, ‘OK, I’m going to write a song,’” Lewis Capaldi told Apple Music. “My creative process is basically: I sit down with a guitar and or at the piano, and I just start to write.” But the amazing thing about Capaldi is that he’s become one of the most popular young artists of his generation by preserving his songs in that raw, unvarnished state, to provide the purest representation of the pain and longing coursing through his lyrics. Amid the hyper-paced, totally wired world of late-2010s pop, this unassuming Scottish singer-songwriter and former Up Next artist—born 1996 in Glasgow—stopped the internet dead in its tracks with his DIY 2017 single “Bruises”, a stark, piano-based breakup ballad that introduced a voice imbued with the sort of soulful grit and deeply felt heartache you wouldn’t expect from a baby-faced 21-year-old. “Bruises” was Capaldi’s ticket to international major-label deals and tours opening for pop A-listers like Sam Smith and Niall Horan, but he would swiftly join their ranks with his equally rustic 2018 single “Someone You Loved”, another tear-jerking expression of sorrow—inspired by the death of his grandmother—that went to No. 1 in the US and UK, and has since become one of the most-streamed songs of all time. Those singles formed the foundation of Capaldi’s chart-topping full-length debut, 2019’s Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, which fleshes out his sound with lush orchestration and gospel gravitas but, through songs like the suicide-themed “Before You Go”, retains his fearless flair for dredging up the messiest of emotions. - Apple Music

At least Zara's heading in the right direction. From a fizzing and energetic tune, to an utterly depressing dirge. 👍
Yeah, sure, they're not exactly the same, but they are very similar situations.

The J-Lo situation is actually probably the most similar situation amongst pop stars that I can think of. Things don't have to be identical to be compared.

Okay, I really don't see it at all but I cba with this anymore.

They could’ve done with skipping Lewis but at least it’s his latest song

so Forget Me has been reset for sure, otherwise we would have already heard it, was low top 30 in the mids

Lewis debut was great, he could write great songs

but now he's gone from great to mediocre + his singing is much worse borderline unlistenable

Is it because of the Netflix documentary the reason why its been reset?

Honestly not much has changed except he's popular so it's more trendy to hate on him!

His voice sounds the same as it always has to me - growly and quite unpleasant.

Plus every song I've heard but 'Forget Me' sounds exactly the same.

Automatic re-set due to streaming increase (we think)

Biography

Even before she dropped her debut single in 2014, Meghan Trainor already had it made. By that point, the 20-year-old Nantucket native had achieved the dream of many aspiring singer/songwriters: to infiltrate the inner sanctum of Nashville’s Music Row. But as it turns out, co-writing songs for country stars like Rascal Flatts and Hunter Hayes was the warm-up for what came next. Upon its release in the summer of 2014, Trainor’s first solo single, “All About That Bass,” swiftly became the most inescapable pop earworm of the year, thanks to a rump-shaking, retro-R&B sound that filled the void vacated by the late Amy Winehouse and a then-dormant Adele. But not only did the song transform Trainor into an instant, cross-generational pop star, its celebration of plus-size physiques made her a spokesmodel for body positivity at a time when there were few such role models in the entertainment industry. (And that motivational ethos would make her a natural choice to judge singing-competition shows like The Voice UK.) With the release of the full-length Title in 2015, Trainor became just the 13th woman in pop history to have both her first single and first album go to No. 1 on the Billboard charts, but on the follow-up, Thank You, she proved she was no mere throwback artist, as singles like “Me Too” and “No” updated her old-school aesthetic for modern-day dance floors. And on 2020’s Treat Myself, she further immersed herself in contemporary club sounds, applying her Aretha-sized sass to the synth-pumped thump of “No Excuses” and EDM-washed “Wave.” But even as her muse has drifted from Motown to Minaj (who turns up on the ASMR&B duet “Nice to Meet Ya”), Trainor’s self-help mission remains on course. “Every message that I give when I’m writing songs, it’s all to me,” she told Apple Music, where she also hosts Dirty Pop Radio. “I keep listening to these songs and I keep having to remind myself, ‘baby girl, love yourself.’” Trainor’s ongoing success lies in her ability to find new and creative ways to translate those personal affirmations into communal anthems. - Apple Music

A shame that the country song making its way over here is a Wallen one. So many great tunes from Kelsea Ballerini, Carly Pearce, Ashley McByrde, Zach Bryan out at the moment.

This tea :cheeseblock:

This should be Kelsea and Carly getting a crossover hit with how much great music they’re making at the moment (I can’t see Carly crossing over as I feel she’s more in the Carrie/Miranda lane of big US country star that doesn’t cross over to the UK charts in terms of singles, but I’m still waiting for that Kelsea crossover breakthrough hit to happen! I’ve been willing that since 2017 and I thought she’d maybe missed her chance but honestly she’s felt bigger than ever in 2023 after her EP/awards hosting so hopefully she can sometime!!)

If we had to have a big recent country hit crossover, it should’ve been the wonderful I Hope or The Bones! (I’m still kinda surprised how the former basically did nothing after how big it was in the US)

Honestly not much has changed except he's popular so it's more trendy to hate on him!

Well, no. He's changed collaborators making music, more successful writers over genuine talent. I also find his early era to be my favourite, Bruises is just so raw

The Bones really deserved! I was listening to it today and it should've at least chatted Top 40 here :(.

Biography

If you want to see something sweet, have a look back at Niall Horan’s 2010 audition for the The X Factor. The swoop of bleached hair, the boyish jitters, the idea that he was gonna become the Irish Justin Bieber and it was all—going—to—start—today. Of course, things worked out a little differently, but if teaming up with a few other contestant runoffs and starting a group—One Direction—that went on to break Beatles-level records is your consolation prize, you probably came out okay. Not that Horan had a lot of time to think about it. “When it was happening, it was like we were in our own little bubble and everyone else was outside it,” he told Apple Music on the occasion of his second solo album, 2020’s Heartbreak Weather. “I didn’t realize the phenomenon. Like, apart from the fact that we played to 60,000 people every night.” Born in Westmeath, Ireland in 1993, Horan grew up listening to stuff like Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young—influences not immediately apparent in One Direction but that surfaced in his solo career. His first album, 2017’s Flicker, didn’t cling to youth. If anything, Horan—like Ed Sheeran—proved himself one of those artists capable of riding the divide between a teenage audience and a decidedly adult one, crafting earnest, uplifting folk-pop with a slight modern shimmer. Heartbreak Weather took the sound a step further, incorporating soul, dance, and classic pop-rock. Not that he’s aiming for cool. If anything, what makes Horan appealing is that he feels more like an Everyman than a rockstar—the boy from around the way who made good. Good thing he didn’t win after all. - Apple Music

Yup the EP has given me a bit more hope for Kelsea! Fingers crossed...
