This does feel like an incredibly stale top 10. Why have so few new songs taken off so far in 2023? Sales are so low in the top 10 too, where are the hits!

I genuinely think it's because so few artists make straight-forward pop songs. That's why the likes of Ed, George and Lewis clean up, and why Miley is having the biggest hit of her career now. There's so little else for people who like uncomplicated pop.

If everyone stopped trying to be too cool for school they'd have more success.

Btw, what is it with the OCC intern not refreshing the chart page at 5.45 anymore?
I’m going to throw a party on the day that Green, Green Grass leaves the top 40 for good.

Think you’ll be waiting a long time for that party then

So pleased for Libianca. Never expected this to go top 10, let alone top 2. Here’s hoping she can get a week at the top.

Other than that, what a depressing top 10. Is anyone still choosing to listen to Green Green Grass?

ACR first. I’d rather have it in the top 40 on ACR than out the top 40 on SCR

Is that not the ones for How I’m Feeling Now?

I thoughts the ones for Wish You The Best were out this week

Nope, those are out at the end of June! The WYTB ones are 26 May

Go Ellie, doing the double when people called her irrelevant :cheer: A miracle.

Where is Someone You Loved by Lewis this week ?
Where is Someone You Loved by Lewis this week ?

Won't be in the chart at all due to the three track rule as Forget Me, Pointless and How I'm Feeling Now are all above it

Well this week is a complete trainwreck - George Ezra up to #9 even with a new entry and another old song being reset ahead of it? :') On the bright side I did get a good chuckle at the saga of the bizarre chart run of 'Pointless' taking yet another turn with it getting a reset right out of starred out territory and back into the low top 20 - I semi-jokingly suggested that might happen with the album release but it's done it even before that  what's next, the album release finally boosting it back into the top 10? Also with the new single out this week and doing so well already, 'How I'm Feeling Now' seems set to be starred out next week when it might otherwise be climbing to a new peak? But it's just that important for 'Forget Me' and 'Pointless' to be back ahead of them of course! (To be fair at least these are fair resets from genuine streaming increases rather than arbitrary label requested ones but still...)

Ellie doing the double in 2023 is really quite something, though I'm still not sure I see her getting another hit single in her own right any time soon (nor do I feel like she really deserves to with the continuing mehness of her recent singles, although I do quite like 'Like A Saviour').

I didn't closely follow the midweeks / Spotify charts this week but it strikes me as surprising that Drake actually climbed since the early midweeks - I've not seen a lot of positive reception to it so I assumed it'd be one that did well from the first day hype around the Kim K sample and whatnot but then drop off quickly, but by all accounts it's actually holding up really well so far.

I haven't heard the Guetta song yet but I already feel like I hate it on principle alone (exactly the same feeling I got about 'I'm Good (Blue)' before hearing it, pairing a sacrilege sample with a feature from an artist who I usually also dislike - I guess I will just hope the production doesn't sound as horrendous this time at the very least). The two new entries that I have actually heard I can't say are good news either... I suppose it is good to see a K-Pop act that's not BTS, BLACKPINK or one of their respective solo members breaking through but 'Cupid' isn't up to much as a song, it just sounds like a Korean female version of 'Sunroof' and we do not need another version of 'Sunroof' in the charts, would have much much much preferred to see NewJeans' 'Ditto' be the new K-Pop hit of the year to go top 40 but ah well. And as for Morgan Wallen... it remains a maddeningly catchy song to its credit (I've had it stuck in my head yet again from reading this thread :')) but still ergh at him making a breakthrough, although has seemed inevitable for a few weeks now. I worry it's bound for the top 10 at the rate it's going.

Also lol at NF having a top 2 album. Ok. And I heard from Joseph that Daughter ended up at #12, a bit disappointing that they've missed the top 10 again after being #4 in the mids but still a new highest peaking album for them at least so I'll take that as a small scrap of good news from this week's chart. As for the singles chart... yay for Libianca getting to #2 I guess? That's about the only positive thing I have to say :kink: The Bakar song climbing to #20 is kind of cool too I guess, has grown on me a little bit and he is an interesting artist though I suspect he probably has better songs than this one.

Still no sign of the top 100s on the OCC website, is this even later than the last few weeks?

I can actually see the OCC having to bring in a rule change in July specifically to move them back.

I sincerely hope it won't take them another 2-3 months to realise the chart they're currently publishing is broken :kink:

not sure what we're implying here - artists making the music they want to rather than straightforward pop are 'trying to be too cool'? 💀 sure it's common knowledge the latter is more likely to get you a hit single, but it's not a requirement to be successful or sell records

I guess Lewis’s label could theoretically ask for Pointless to be starred out instead of How I’m Feeling Now?

I believe this happened to Dua Lipa to allow Hallucinate to chart in 2020, with Physical starred out even though it was ahead of it for a couple of weeks

True but not sure how likely that is (although I hope it does happen to once again increase the weirdness of the 'Pointless' chart run. Plus because 'How I'm Feeling Now' is pretty easily the best of his 3 current charting songs for me)
