here for Dog Days re-charting!!!!!

Ed with just 2 songs top 200 in the US :o

ED flopped HARD on US Spotify... that's really shocking to me... let's hope his pure sales are strong because he may be heading for a debut under 100k in the US.. which is gonna be his first time since his debut album

Well I’m glad Curtains looks set to go top 40 - I hope - as that’s my favourite on the album.

Those opening numbers are really shocking though, with the documentary and court case exposure too, but then again Afterglow didn’t do the numbers I thought it would when it came out so maybe acoustic Ed just isn’t a commercial prospect.

Are we allowed to use the f word for Ed now? Only 6 songs in the Spotify top 50 on release day, even I didn’t think it would be anywhere near that bad
It would be nice if they could get a top 40 hit!

You realise they've already had five?

I’m yet to hear Ed’s album but I think this could potentially be my favourite from him going by reviews.

What I will say is I think Ed’s reached a point now where it’s just fatigue from him more than anything else. I said it in another thread but I honestly don’t think he’s had a significant enough gap since Divide and it’s likely just reached a point now where I think a break and a significant one is needed.

not sure why anyone expected anything different after the performance of Eyes Closed and Boat lol. even before any songs from it were released as soon as it was revealed to be an acoustic album it seemed pretty clear it wouldn't be that big on streaming. should still get a healthy amount of physical sales and probably spent multiple weeks at #1.

agreed, i think he should put out a greatest hits from the mathematics era next year / late this year, if only because it might finally push OCC to banish greatest hits albums to the compilation chart (and it would be very funny to see people constantly complaining about it clogging up a spot near the top of the album chart), then take a break for 3-5 years before starting a new era.

Regardless of genre it’s a new studio album by Ed Sheeran, the complete lack of interest is shocking

While it's obviously a big regression for him personally, it's still one of the biggest album bombs we've had this year so far, 'complete lack of interest' is a bit of an overstatement.

The album tracks from '=' already did quite a bit worse than the ones from his previous couple of albums, and this album is explicitly meant to be less commercial than that, so I don't think it's a surprise at all that they've come in a bit lower again especially after 'Eyes Closed' was a lesser hit than his usual lead singles and, more tellingly, 'Boat' made nowhere near the same impression as 'Visiting Hours'.

6 top 50 entries, 0 of which are top 10, is really stretching the definition of “album bomb” to me
It definitely stretches the definition of flop aswell

For Ed Sheeran’s standards it definitely is? I don’t know what’s so hard to understand about that, every artist has different expectations based on past performance. This is well, well, wellllll below his standards. Bionic went #1 but you’d be hard pressed to find anyone arguing that wasn’t a flop

I just think that my definition is a flop is something that actively... doesn't do well, and I don't think any definition of not doing well is 6 songs in the top 50. The term 'flop' seems to have been adopted by the likes of PopCrave stans on Twitter to just mean anything that does slightly less well than expected.

It's underperforming based on expectations, sure.

Also, the word "flop" is used SO quickly nowadays. We've not even had the first set of mid weeks in yet and there is definitely a distinction between a "flop" and an "under performance".

Well I found the first days for Divide and = if it would help to compare

He charted every song from = in the top 30 on release day which wasn’t that long ago. 5 of which were top 10! And even then that was considered “low key”. The decline is insane, even bigger than the one between Divide and = which didn’t seem possible.

Thanks, I was looking for '=''s opening to compare the album tracks. People called ='s opening "low-key" so I guess it's fair to call this as underperformance.

Poor Lorde on the release day of "Divide"

Oh yeh I know, I should have phrased it better as they always seem to get hits in the top 75 region and that was ok my mind when posting.
