well it's not often we see Finland in the chart... what is the best hit to come out of the country? (and what else besides Sandstorm are you voting for?)

 

Cha Cha Cha, Sandstorm, In the Shadows and Freestyler get my votes. couldn't hum any H.I.M. songs nor The Rasmus' follow-up hit. don't particularly enjoy Lordi even if I appreciate it as a Eurovision winner. the Darude and Bomfunk MC's follow-ups are a fair downgrade from their big hits so not particularly worth my vote.

'Cha Cha Cha', 'In The Shadows' & 'Hard Rock Hallelujah' for me. I don't mind 'Sandstorm' but it's not up there with my fave classic dance tracks.

I went for Cha Cha Cha, Freestyler, In The Shadows, Hard Rock Hallelujah and 'the other two' Darude singles, that - shockingly - I prefer to Sandstorm!

 

Alma's Chasing Highs from 2017 I liked too (and even moreso her new album, which is great!)

Nightwish - Wish I Had An Angel #60 2004

 

Lordi is my #1 Eurovision winner so that is the best but Cha Cha Cha is running it pretty close and tbf, the country could be doing a lot worse than having Darude and The Rasmus as their primary exports. (even if they aren't technically their primary exports, stan mode on, Nightwish outperforms any other Finnish act by far on worldwide success, and all their recent albums have got onto the UK Album Chart)

 

Really great country musically anyway. I think I like everything on this list (well, I've forgotten how some of the HIM songs go but those aside).

Also, if you're all in a Finnish mood, can I just recommend the 1955 movie "Tuntematon sotilas" (Unknown Soldier)? It's probably one of the best movies ever made and makes me cry so hard, AVOID THE REMAKE.

Finland really punches above its weight in producing iconic UK hits - 'Sandstorm', 'Freestyler', 'Hard Rock Hallelujah' and both of The Rasmus' hits are all fantastic and 'Cha Cha Cha' joins those this week! (I like 'Feel The Beat' as well)

Good poll! If I had to pick one it would have to be 'Freestyler', what an absolute tune *.* but since it was multiple choice, I also went for 'Sandstorm', 'Solitary Man' and both Rasmus singles. 'Freestyler' FTW though!

Thanks for starting this thread. As a Finn very interesting to read your thoughts. And may I add that Sun by Slusnik Luna (#40, 2001) is Finnish.

I think 'In The Shadows' probably just about edges it out as my absolute favourite from the list btw (just ahead of 'Freestyler' and 'Sandstorm') so nice at that being in the lead.

 

Trying to think of other Finnish top 100 hits - aside from ofc a couple more Eurovision ones (Waldo's People, Softengine and Blind Channel, I think that's all of the others that charted? in the download/streaming era at least) there was also the melodic death metal band Children Of Bodom who somehow had a #78 hit with 'Blooddrunk' in 2008, I'm curious as to how that caught on.

Voted for Cha Cha Cha, Sandstorm and Hard Rock Hallelujah (those also being the only ones I think I know x). Would've voted for Blind Channel too!
