I think she’s really likable but the GP are not taking to her music (I don’t think it has anything to do with her ESC performance either).

The single hasn’t made the Top 30 on iTunes yet and the album climbed from #9 to #8 after the show was aired (Kylie climbed from #7 to #2).

She's lovely she's genuine she could be very much a success. The songs are awful and dated and I do believe the eurovsiion song was universally quite hated and a lot of people were annoyed we came off the success of Space Man to a very low tier irritating song.

It obviously wasn't "universally quite hated" otherwise it wouldn't have gone top 10.

A song can still be universally hated and chart. It was mass exposed following the hype of the previous year any song that would have been entered would have done the same success. A chart position doesn't mean a liked song anymore especially in the streaming age.

Surely the streaming age is a BETTER representation of what is actually liked? It's severely dampened the impact of a fanbase buying any old crap an artist puts out, and has almost totally eradicated the chance of rubbish covers for charity charting highly based off their cause alone. If people didn't like I Wrote a Song, it wouldn't have charted at all, but it charted *on its debut week* (SPACE MAN did not) and obviously climbed into the top 10, only the second of our Eurovision entries to do that in recent times. Did everyone like it? No, clearly not, and something obviously didn't resonate across Europe based on its leaderboard position, but I know the song was still popular among Eurovision stans (and clearly the wider public if they went and streamed it).

“I Wrote a Song" was popular, but I agree it benefited from the success of "Space Man”. Radio stations and streaming platforms supported it upon release, while Space Man wasn’t until May. The success of 2022 sparked people’s curiosity to listen whether they liked or hated it and it had a prime TV feature. I'm unsure of its streaming performance in the UK, but it hasn't been certified yet, suggesting it may not be that popular.

Never seen so many social media ads for an album - literally constantly on Insta, FB etc.,

The predictions for this seem to be between Top 20 to Top 100! Really hope it at least manages Top 40 but I’m not overly confident now

It’s hopeless. Her team need to get out of bed and do something!

It’s even more hopeless that she cannot add more signings. Where are her fans?

Reduce it more but if all else fails just get on insta live and cry and beg until people buy it.

I want her to do well for for Eurovision but she will be lucky to get 100 extra sales on top of her pre-orders/signings at this rate.

^^ agree, her team have let her down on this - firstly it’s far too expensive (the vinyl was nearly £30 until they reduced it to £25 - but still not a great price especially for a debut release).

They should’ve chucked signed CDs on Amazon, done daily signings etc., - Mae’s trying on socials but seems to be pushing people towards downloading on iTunes.

They need to create some fan buzz and get Mae in any indie that will have her in for a signing - could make all the difference between #30 or #98!

Maybe I'm being delulu but I don't think it's going to do as bad as some think, I could see low Top 10

Well, it definitely worked for Freya Ridings. :gaga:

That was what I was predicting initially now I’m not convinced - it just seems a bit flat for release week?

The first day Spotify streams are tragic. All the new songs were streamed around 5,000-9,000 times. ‘Nervous’ managed 72,000 due to being on NMF but the rest has really tragic numbers.

I feel for her.

:drama:

Those streaming numbers - so it’s going to be solely reliant on physical sales this week then, also looking at her socials, engagement seems quite low too, poor Mae.

No honestly same I thought she’d make top 20 lowest, probably top 10. Idk I feel like thete are enough people to buy it that it’ll do alroght

I hoped she could have sold 4K-5K which would be reasonable for a debut but it’s strange that she could barely sell out 5 tiny venues for her signings. It’s only Sunday but now isn’t the time to be sleeping.

I don't really know what to expect from her physical sales but I had extremely low streaming expectations so those numbers haven't surprised me at all. She wasn't a big artist before Eurovision, and I Wrote a Song wasn't big enough to change that much, certainly five months on from the contest where, it's safe to say, she was no Sam Ryder success. Any interest in Mae is likely very UK-centric as well which will have an impact on how high her streams will go.

I don't think her team have done a bad job though. Graham Norton is one of the best promo slots around, she's done a series of signing events (them happening pre-release won't affect that when a pre-order is required for entry), there are adverts on social media and around London. There's not much more they can do other than a few daytime TV interviews over the week. The only other big promo performance slot around is Strictly, and Jorja Smith nabbed this week's slot with her album also out this week.

Price reductions may come later in the week, there's plenty of time to see how her team react if it's not performing all that well.

Mae posted she purchased 3 copies of her album so that is progress!

Yes, ir was. I told y'all it was awful and embarrassing and that she couldn't sing, but noo, she was gonna win

I saw that - queen of multi buying her own album :cheeseblock:

Looks like she’s in Fopp in Covent Garden so hopefully she’s whipped her sharpie out and signed all their other copies.
