Say an artist e.g. Taylor swift releases a song e.g. karma, that's on standard , 3am, till dawn clean and explicit versions, then you have the remix version,

 

When Spotify shows the streams theirs only 2 versions normal and remix, do the combine all the versions when reporting the data , and if so theoretically do only 10 streams count no matter which version you listening too

 

 

Hope 'Satellite' can get a new peak this week after this latest tour surge (and would be nice if the chart show actually plays it this time x).

 

I think people are being a bit overconfident about Kylie's top 10 chances now, she's trending in the right direction for now but no guarantee that's going to continue (and it will probably need to continue, as she's still looking set to fall this week even after these gains, unless cassette sales save her if they're lumped on this week). Agreed that her chances are getting better and better by the day with these very strong Spotify updates and it's maybe more likely than not now but I still think it's pretty far from 'definite'.

 

If it does just keep getting bigger and bigger though... I guess this is the closest thing we've had to a streaming era equivalent of a 'Believe' style late career renaissance?

As you have suggested, they will combine all identical versions for streaming purposes. Sometimes they make an error like with Mae Muller ‘I Wrote A Song’ where they accidentally combined the original version with the version that includes a French verse, but usually different mixes get different counts on Spotify.

 

However, I don’t know with certainty the answer to your main question. I have always assumed that for Official Chart purposes they combine all mixes together with a maximum count of 10. But I don’t take this for granted, and if I am trying to help a song to charts, I will try to play each mix 10 times.

 

Elton John was #1 with Cold Heart, maybe that counts as a so-called "Believe moment"?

 

I would agree. Despite Elton John working in collaboration with other artists, it’s impossible to deny that this marked a singles chart renaissance!

 

I also think about Paul McCartney and his song ‘Four Five Seconds’ - but I don’t feel that counts as it didn’t kick off a string of hits. I can’t remember how long ago that was, so I can’t remember whether it was in the download era or the streaming era.

Why wouldn’t he have?

Playing guitar on a track isn't something that you would normally get a credit for e.g. Slash played guitar on Michael Jackson's 'Give In To Me', Noel Gallagher played guitar on a Coldplay single (I forget which one, was it 'Up & Up'?) but neither got a credit for it. I guess with 'FourFiveSeconds' McCartney got a credit because he was such a big name and it was such an out there collab.

It's easier for an older male to make a dent in the chart than a female let's be real.
Especially when collabing with one of the biggest current pop stars. Cold Heart was unique but Padam Padam’s success is more impressive imo, it’s just classic Kylie - no features, no samples, no rehashed older songs.

What's more, its success wasn't limited to the UK only. It was a worldwide mega hit pretty much in every corner of the world. It even managed to cross over to the USA - the toughest market in the world.

 

Shazam Shazam still has a long way to go to even reach a 1/10 of Believe's success.
