In fairness, when Ed Sheeran released his 3rd album, track 1 was instantly ranked 9th on day 1, so there's no hard and fast rule here.

I would say ‘Mine’ being 50k ahead of enchanted on release date when the data shows the vast majority streamed the album through in order throughout the day (showed by placement of songs) and then suddenly after release day ‘Enchanted’ being ahead Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and remaining a lot more stable (Mine dropping 20+ spots), shows that Enchanted is being chosen to listened to more. Release date numbers are not representative. Purely track listing order, if mine was ahead of enchanted now I’d concede.

Nonetheless, the example I cited breaks this supposed rule. In any case, if the individual song's relatively greater popularity can't overcome the percentage of people who start, but don't finish listening to an album, then it's not an especially noteworthy margin. We can just as easily say 'oh, this album track is actually more popular than this single but it just isn't on playlists etc'. If "Enchanted" is the more popular track in the long run, that'll show, but all those day 1 streams still count to week 1, and aside from the premium/free split, we're not about to re-appraise individual streams' values based on how much someone really liked it. A stream is a stream.

I wonder how long DaveCee will get at #1 officially? I genuinely wouldn’t rule out 9 weeks before hitting ACR on its 10th. Nothing is coming close to it at the moment. Guess it depends if there’s any surprise big new releases
