Natasha Bedingfield - Unwrittwn and Pocketful of Sunshine

'Unwritten' was a #6 hit in the UK, so that's a pretty invalid example, also Nelly Furtado as already mentioned

I do sometimes wish you'd check these things before spouting such utter rubbish.

My thoughts exactly!

Crazy how Last Night has been such a massive hit in the US with 16 weeks at number 1 and it only peaked at 28 in the UK. It also got to number 1 in Australia and Canada, number 2 in New Zealand and number 7 in Ireland. What other songs have been big hits in the US (and other countries) but not in the UK? I presume there will be nothing as big as a contrast as this

Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin') by T Pain/Yung Joc was a Hot 100 no.1 and was the end of year no.5 in the US in 2007 but in the UK didn't even make the weekly top 100. Its pretty hideous so not missed out much.

Sail by AWOLNATION and Safe & Sound by Capital Cities were both huuuuuge in the US
Ellie Goulding's 'Lights' comes to mind as a song that was huge in the US (peaked at #2 and was #5 on the 2012 year end chart) but barely made a dent in the UK chart, especially odd since it was by a British artist who of course has plenty of big hits here.

I don't think it's particularly odd that it wasn't a big UK hit, at the time it was a single very late into her very first album campaign before she became properly big and it blew up later in the US. I get why they didn't try again with it here as that was the point she was about to launch her second album.

Doja cat now only 5k away from dua on Spotify! I genuinely wouldn’t rule out her grabbing #1 officially next week

Yuck! :puke2:

I hope the Miley song is good/big enough to prevent that from happening.

Honestly hope doja doesn’t make #1. Would be a shame if this mediocre one became her biggest hit imo. She has so many better ones that deserve 😭

I agree she has better songs and I know I’m in the minority but I really like PTTR

It’s really grown on me a lot and I find it extremely catchy!

but using a song that has been sampled and covered to death.... it's as original s all these people now sampling Robert Miles-Children

Luke Combs' version of Fast Car has also done way better in the other Anglosphere countries compared to here. Although I guess it could still climb more in the UK.

According to conspiracy theorists its because she sells her soul to Satan in the video! :magic:

Agreed its way her worst single. Definitely 'Need to Know' is her best yet.

Bjork is prone to exaggeration though. 'Walk On By' has been covered quite a lot in fairness, but of course it hasn't been "sampled to death". I don't particularly like its sampling in Doja's song thoough, it feels a bit gimmicky to me, as if she was desperate to find a classic to sample. Hopefully it doesn't get to #1.
Be interesting to see if style still doing well when I can see you hits acr, it's already charting in Ireland
