'City Boys' holding up well over the week. Interested to see what ends up being Burna's third top 100 song.

Kind of surprised they skipped it but presuming 'Cheat On Me' will definitely get a play later.

Biography

Stormzy

Grime attracts big personalities, but even by the genre’s imposing standards, Stormzy isn’t so much a rapper as a force of nature: a 6’5” lyrical whirlwind boasting a powerhouse voice and one of the most impressive ascents in pop music, stepping up to headline Glastonbury within five years of his debut EP. Born Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. in 1993, Stormzy was still a boy when grime was in its infancy, and he came up battling fellow teens at youth centers in his native Croydon, London. By the time he was 20, he had launched his “WickedSkengMan” series, uploading freestyles over classic grime beats, and he swiftly developed a rep for his tough staccato flow and pugnacious attitude. Fittingly, Stormzy performed his 2015 single “Shut Up,” one of his earliest hits, at a heavyweight boxing match. “I set trends, dem man copy/They catch feelings, I catch bodies,” he raps on the song, and it’s true that when he throws down the gauntlet, he tends to make history: 2015’s “WickedSkengMan 4” was the first freestyle ever to break into the UK Top 40, and in 2017, his debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, was the first grime album to go to No. 1 in the UK charts, 14 years after Dizzee Rascal’s Mercury Prize-winning Boy in da Corner first carved out a space in UK pop for the upstart underground genre. But Stormzy quicky proved himself interested in more than just besting his rivals, instead using his platform to become the voice of conscience for young and marginalized people across the UK. At Glastonbury 2017, he delivered a moving tribute to the victims of that summer’s Grenfell Tower fire; at the 2018 BRIT Awards, he aimed a scathing freestyle at Prime Minister Theresa May, whose government he accused of negligence after the fire. Musically, too, Stormzy has shown a willingness to push beyond grime’s traditional limits, dipping into R&B and gospel as he vacillates between taunts and introspection. “I would be a bit fake if I just gave you pure grime albums,” Stormzy told Apple Music. “I’m going to embrace my musicality because that is true to me as well. I love melody and I love R&B and I love pop music. Bruv, I’m going to do whatever I like.” - Apple Music

RAYE

When RAYE speaks of her music, she doesn’t just talk of songs but of “stories”. And the South London singer-songwriter (born Rachel Agatha Keen in 1997) has quite the knack for writing them. Nominated for the Songwriter of the Year Ivor Novello Award in 2022, RAYE first broke through in 2014 with her star-signalling self-released debut EP, Welcome to the Winter, followed by the Stormzy-featuring Second EP two years later. A stream of singles and collaborations, including with Stefflon Don, Mr Eazi and Jax Jones, hinted at an artist who could shape-shift between musical spheres—and excel wherever she landed. But despite such successes (her name has also featured on the credits of songs by artists such as Beyoncé, Ellie Goulding, Little Mix and John Legend), RAYE felt trapped behind the scenes. In 2021—just months after the release of her chart-topping dance-pop anthem “BED” alongside Joel Corry and David Guetta—the singer-songwriter wrote on social media that she hadn’t been “allowed” to release her debut album and that she was “sick of being slept on” by her label, an allegation that sent shockwaves through the music industry. And it was then that RAYE returned to those stories, as she came to work on her long-awaited 2023 debut LP, My 21st Century Blues, as an independent artist. On it, she explores being a young woman in music and the trauma of sexual assault and substance abuse, but also the things any woman RAYE’s age might be moved to write about: climate change, relationships ending, falling in love with someone new. “This is about me telling the stories I want to tell, in the order I want to tell them, through the sonic landscape I want to tell them,” RAYE told Apple Music at the time of the album’s release. My 21st Century Blues, she added, wasn’t made with mainstream success in mind, yet that’s exactly what it brought. After the confronting “Hard Out Here.” and the made-for-repeat-listening “Black Mascara.”, she unleashed “Escapism.” featuring 070 Shake, a viral hit on both sides of the Atlantic and the biggest song of RAYE’s up to that point. It signalled, without doubt, that her time had come. “It is just the most beautiful validation,” said RAYE. “To know that you’re right to back yourself when you feel conviction and you feel passionately about something. I made this [album] battling and figuring out freedom, and I’m so excited for the artist I get to become. This has set the tone for me.” - Apple Music

they really like to play all these unoriginal generic dance covers

I remember when Rest Assured also sampled the Verve back in 1998 just after the original was released. Their version was called Treat Infamy

The Weekend might be the best thing Stormzy’s put out for a while.

Biography

Florence + The Machine’s grand art-pop cuts straight to the essence of raw emotion—no matter how bruised and bloody the result. The London band's 2009 debut album, Lungs, came stacked with rousing anthems like “Kiss with a Fist” and “Dog Days Are Over,” all propelled by pounding rhythms and orchestral strings and fuelled by a desire—or rather a need—for catharsis. “With songwriting, I really like to embody the things I was afraid of as a child. I like to kind of embody that voice,” singer-songwriter Florence Welch explained to Apple Music. “It’s like an exorcism almost.” That passion for delving into the darker outskirts of the mind infuses everything the band does, including bringing their cinematic sound to the screen with the 2016 release of short film The Odyssey, whose Dante-inspired scenes are strung together with heartache-drenched songs from 2015’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. That braveness also dictates not only Welch’s lyrics—which hit on topics as taboo as suicide and self-destruction (“The End of Love”) and as profound as simply letting go (the Grammy-nominated “Shake It Out”)—but also the way she delivers them, with the bewitching wail of a siren unleashed. - Spotify

Biography

Multi-talented actor Ryan Gosling is best known for his roles in both independent and major Hollywood cinema, but he has also proved himself to be a fully capable multi-instrumentalist. The first example of Gosling the musician surfaced in 2007, when he released an online solo single, "Put Me in the Car." That same year, he formed a band, Dead Man's Bones, with Zach Shields -- the two had met in 2005 at a time when they were dating the McAdams sisters, Rachel and Kayleen. Originally, their joint project was determined to be a monster-themed musical, but the realization of how expensive the undertaking would be saw the pair morph into a band instead, albeit with spooky motifs. Gosling contributed a variety of instruments to their eponymous debut, including vocals, guitar, bass, piano, and cello; the latter two he learned from scratch specifically for the record. The album was self-released in 2009 and received a generally positive response from critics; in particular, they were quick to praise the use of Silverlake Conservatory Children's Choir throughout the album. Seven years on in 2016, Gosling made entirely new musical headlines, as he performed the piano in his L.A.-based musical La La Land and its subsequent official single. In the film he plays an aspiring jazz pianist, meaning the level of skill required was far higher than he could initially manage; in order to get up to speed, Gosling reportedly spent four hours a day for three months learning to play high level jazz piano -- an effort that paid off tremendously, as he received significant amounts of praise for his musical contributions to the film. - Spotify

Biography

Jung Kook

South Korean singer, songwriter, and producer Jung Kook is best known as a member and main vocalist of K-pop boy band BTS. Debuting with the group in 2013, he went on to earn global success alongside his bandmates, selling out stadiums around the world and topping the charts in multiple markets. In addition to his activities with BTS, he has not only appeared on various television reality shows, but also recorded and produced his own solo material, like 2020's "Still with You"; 2022's collaboration with Charlie Puth "Left and Right"; the Qatar World Cup anthem "Dreamers," and his official debut single, 2023's "Seven." - Apple Music

Latto

Latto's unadulterated confidence and Southern flavor have made her a standout in the 2020s golden era of women rappers. Born in 1998, Alyssa Michelle Stephens was raised in Atlanta and began writing raps at age 10. At 16, the artist formerly known as Mulatto won The Rap Game, a music competition reality show hosted by legendary producer Jermaine Dupri, but ultimately turned down the prize (a deal with Dupri’s So So Def Records) to stay independent and self-release mixtapes while working the Georgia circuit. Her breakout single, 2019’s taunting “B*tch from Da Souf,” proved her growth from a fledgling teen artist and expertly showcased her trap influences and cleverly brash bars. It also landed her a record deal with RCA Records shortly after its release. The song catapulted Latto's career and positioned her alongside other female artists: Saweetie and rap icon Trina guest on “B*tch from Da Souf (Remix),” and Latto made a cameo in Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's provocative, empowering “WAP” video. On 2020's “Muwop” from her debut album, Queen of Da Souf, she flips Gucci Mane’s 2007 hit “Freaky Gurl,” borrowing his flow and proudly embracing her sexual prowess, much like her peers. “I think it’s only up from here,” she told Apple Music. “Every day, it’s a new female rapper going viral on the internet… Now [kids] got a lot [of women rappers] to choose from, and we all different.” Latto may be one of many, but she’s also one of a kind. - Apple Music
