Hi everyone!

Over the past week you've all been nominating your theme choices for the next edition of Club Bizarre. And now begins the fun part, voting to choose the next theme we will run with!

There are 17 themes in total. Where necessary I have added explanations from your confirmations below to expand so any of the themes with an asterisk against please see below for further explanation. If you think any of the above themes that don't have an explanation but could need one please do shout and I'll try to add something in but I think they're self-explanatory.

Rules

  • There will be several rounds where we will vote for themes to be knocked out like a singles survivor until we have our winner
  • You must only vote for your TWO least favourite themes in this round. Please do not vote for any more than this to keep it fair.
  • You have until 23:59 (BST) on 11/09/23 to vote in this round.
  • You are free to reveal your nomination choice now should you wish to or keep it a secret, it's up to you.
Theme Explanations

*Techno & Artistic/Experimental Electronica - Artistic electronic music so may not necessarily have a big drop or sound 'dated'. It sounds a bit more atmospheric

*DJ / Producer Who Sings - This theme requires participant to send a dance / electronic song that was also sung by the producer / DJ (e.g. Calvin Harris). If it is a group then all members of the group must sing (e.g. not Pendulum where only one person sings)

*Celebrating the Rise of Woman & Non-Binary People in Music - To celebrate the rising levels of equality within the business. People could choose to submit either a classic dance vocalist, an early pioneer or one of the increasing numbers of female/non-binary DJs and producers who are becoming more prominent

*Dance by Definition - Songs that make you want to get up and dance, have dance moves/instructions, could even be workout anthems

*Unknown Artists - Not very well known at all, artists with no songs over 1 million Spotify streams

*Transformations - Remixes, covers, samples, interpolations, reworks etc. that completely transform the original piece. Highlighting the transformative nature of dance and electronic music and its ability to shapeshift and inspire future generations of music.

*Club Bizarre Rejects - Selecting one entry from any contest and any participant that did not reach the Top 10 in the final results

*Classic / Original Electronica - in terms of the original 90s definition. Something less high energy but with prominent uses of electronic instruments, synths and ambience. Think Moby and Massive Attack primarily.

*Halloween - dark, spooky, gothic dance music

*Dance Till You're Dead - tracks from artists in the dance world that have died, including posthumous releases

Whoever just voted and picked 5 themes, please can you vote again (by PM'ing me). You're only supposed to pick two themes which is confirmed in the poll and in the above post. Your votes have been removed.

It's probably not a good idea to do this via a BuzzJack poll if you are serious about enforcing 2 votes only per person oop

I resisted the temptation to vote out the final option because of the grammatical error :hitler:  (it's actually not a bad theme idea x)

Bre confirmed as the 5 votes then x

Usually it's not easy to spot, but because we were 2 votes in with 7 scores present I just wanted to reiterate what was posted. I'm not going to be able to completely enforce the rules I know that and I'm not going to lose any sleep over it I just posted it because I noticed it. It's just about trust and people reading what was posted that's all ^_^

(it wasn't me obvz, I'm just saying there is no way to force people to only vote for 2 options in a BuzzJack poll)

((I voted for the same 2 options as Rollo fwiw, that's partly my own personal bias against artist recycling though ))

I went with Club Bizarre Rejects - I don't feel like there's been many horrifying top ten misses that need correcting, even with a lot of my own I can see why they haven't connected widely.

And Unknown Artists, as 90% of the time I don't recognise the artists in Club Bizarre anyway.

Some great themes listed though, I hope we use quite a few of these in the coming months.

It looks like CB Rejects is looking likely to go first…

This wasn’t my original suggestion (so just adding this for the person who made it), and I don’t want to deviate at all from Lewis’s project here, but we COULD (if there was suitable interest) run a spin-off Club Bizarre for “second chances” for eligible participants to resubmit a former entry of theirs that didn’t reach the Top 10 before but deserves a second chance to do so. It was only be a spin-off and not be the main theme for October. If there was interest I wouldn’t mind hosting it but it would likely run a much shorter time frame (like a voting only) and then the results would happen.

Let me know if anyone wants this, otherwise I’ve tried my best to support this person’s idea. -_-

I don't really think Rejects or Second Chance contests work with anonymous contests as there isn't the same wider community aspect as there is with BJSC, plus no 'wrong semi' syndrome to affect it, and I don't think the contest has been going long enough to establish 'classics' or criminal top 10 misses.

Voted for that and Unknown Artists, like Rich, there are very few artists I recognise in the standard contest.

Well it looks like y'all hate my theme oops. I thought it was quite a good idea -_- might as well de-anonymise myself

(I am aware that quite a large chunk of the entries to all contests fit my definition of 'unknown artists' already, that was kind of the point though, I felt like it was an interesting concept that shouldn't be too high of a barrier to entry for most participants ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Unknown artists and Halloween.

I voted for Dance By Definition as I just imagine all of those being cheesy workout-style songs or ones reading instructions like Cha Cha Slide.

And also voted for Rejects cos I want to hear new songs. A rejects contest should be run independently from the main contest like with the best of last year.
