Number 79 on a Monday midweek chart for a lead single and first single for a few years is a terrible outcome.

They’re just a legacy act at this point, it happens to everyone eventually!

Something saddens me about the term 'legacy act'.

It might be technically true but I don't like the idea that an act is less deserving of a number one single because they've been around for 30 years.

I'm not saying that's what you've said but that's the general vibe I get from the industry.

Oh of course, I think there's just a point for a lot of people where they stop listening to new music but are still interested in the "classics". Of course it's certainly not everyone, and lots of older artists still do have big fanbases listening to their new music, but still a significant amount of people.

My parents love listening to music, but it's rarely stuff past the 90's!

The general public/casual listener has never taken to them as a three piece, both visually and musically. That is a quite common theme I have noticed through comments from non-fans, as well as the tax scandal being mentioned. Still.

Robbie is a superstar and Jason was arguably their most popular member as a four piece, or at least second behind Gary. Those are tough holes to fill. Jason was the most down to earth, relatable, and honest of the four. He was also the only one not greedy and involved in the scandal.

These three members were.

Jason left soon after, coincidence?

Who knew Jason was such a secret weapon of popularity. Then again success is a myraid of combinations, not all musical.

Their reputation was built as honest, working class lads, Gary excluded, who worked hard from nothing going from 'Do What U Like' to 'Back For Good'. Nowhere to the biggest global pop single of 1995 worldwide, all the while remaining relatable and likeable, including through their initial '00's comeback reunion.

For many the story arc closed with a natural conclusion when Robbie returned for the triumphant 'Progress'. The prodigal son had returned to a critical and commercial success.

They will always be able to tour, however, because of the catalogue they produced.

I agree in all what you say, nirvanamusic. Still i like that they experiment with styles even though I didn't like the outcome most of the time.
I agree with your comment. I haven't liked the recent music. However, I like that they are trying different sounds and styles. To give them credit even in their early boyband years, they covered many styles of music and didn't just stick to one sound and formula.

The recent music has declined, i think since Jason left it has made a difference, i enjoyed parts of III and liked the album overall but not as much as previous, wonderland has some good points but overall i never really took to the album and i have not enjoyed Garys last 2 studio albums as like Take That he went in a different direction.

I agree that they can be applauded for trying something different and its something they have always done but they also managed to keep that Take That sound in it at all times but that for me is dwindling more and more and i miss it. I thinkKylie is another good example of an artist who continues to try something different but she knows to keep that element that makes her Kylie and keeps her fans happy and i think that something Take That need to work on and get the balance right.

^^ Definitely a marked difference in their sound and direction since Jason left
Great point made about Kylie Minogue. She indeed is somehow always new and fresh and nevertheless Kylie. Amazing and she deserves to be so successful.
It didn't make the top 100 but it was no. 4 on sales.
Least it went top 5 on sales but shame it missed the top 100 completely, it might chart when the album comes out if not it looks like they wont register on the chart at all with any singles from this album unless there is something great to come.

'Windows' is absolutely fantastic. Gary sounds divine.

IMO, it is their best single since 'Patience'. I'm glad they've ditched the electronic sound.

Thats the joy of music, everyone rightly has their own opinion and im happy you are enjoying it as sadly i cant say the same, windows makes me nervous that i wont like the album and i want to like it as usually a new Take That album is an exciting time.

The song has grown on me somewhat but still all feels a little underwhelming.

Is there going to be a video?

For me the song is just ok, not a classic and not something I'm going back to. These Days was their last truly great song for me, although in the interim I've enjoyed Giants, Hey Boy, Out Of Our Heads and Cry.

Out of their releases since III, my favourites have been Giants, Everlasting, New Day & the Odyssey version of How Deep Is Your Love. (and now this one!)
Take That is lucky that they have a huge back catalogue and a very faithful fan base. The number of tickets they sell in the UK when on tour are huge compared to the small success of the last albums.
