The song was released with the album, it's not a "post-album single". Several songs become hits when they are out with the album, like Drake's IDGAF.

logically speaking if it's not pre-album it's post-album hhaha :)

I've always counted this situation as a post-album single as well. And I would still say the IDGAF situation is quite rare (although yes, it does seem like the most common way for one to happen is if it blows up within like 10 days after an album is released). Also, do we even know if IDGAF is going to be a single at all? It might still be just an album track. If it were to get announced as a single in November for example, we'd have to consider it a post-album single that just did well as an album track, surely?

 

Although I feel like post-album singles have been doing better recently. Like Kill Bill, Cruel Summer, Die For You, Cuff It, etc. So it can be done. A few years ago it seemed like it was almost never happening.

 

EDIT: I've done some research into Drake's situation, and it looks like his current single is Rich Baby Daddy. It has been sent to radio in Italy, it's on Radio 1's playlist, it's been playlisted by over 100 radio stations in the US already and was added to Today's Top Hits so that seems to be the song his label are trying to promote.

Yea, Cuff It is a brilliant example of a successful post-album single. It kind of "saved the album", after the streams for BMS declined very fast.

Yay for 'I Remember Everything' now cracking the Spotify top 40 for the first time <3 I see that as per usual it's showing as a faller in the Monday mids but hopefully can rebound to another new peak by the end of the week once again, still rooting for it to become the highest peaking of the year's crossover country hits*.

 

* I guess 'My Love Mine All Mine' is technically a country song too but I will be placing Mitski in a box to stifle her creativity for the purpose of this post
