Why is it selling out to work with Nathan? Eliza has had a #1 single, she's already achieved commercial success so what's wrong with diversifying your portfolio and collaborating with unexpected producers?

I watched it. I get what you're saying however this interview is from a year ago. Yes, Eliza did not intend for BOTA to be successful, she released it independently first and then signed it to Warner. She does say that she wanted people to enjoy underground dance music, cool, but then is she not allowed to make other tracks without it being called 'selling out'? A lot can happen in a year and given they're label mates Nathan and Eliza maybe this track is being forced on her or she just likes trancey music? There's likely to be a lot more behind why she's involved and she hasn't said anything about it herself yet

Eliza is garage not trance but maybe she can do both at the same time like Sonique in 2000!

Question. What was the point of her putting BOTA to Warner if it was to have already been successful?

They snapped it up as it was becoming successful. It had already entered the chart in July last year when Warner signed it and re-released mid-August. I can only imagine they jumped on it for the £££ because of the TikTok hype.

Personally I think good for her making money.

 

I have a lot of friends who are musicians and I've never understood choosing to NOT make money and set yourself up when you have the skills to do so easily and preferring to struggle in obscurity.

The bright lights and glitter of future success that they were promising her may have distracted her from all the royalties they were siphoning off BOTA into their own pockets.

I just hope that he either releases this in late December or January to avoid the Xmas rush. He might learn from last time what happened when he released his Little Mix collab in 2020 right before Xmas

I doubt they'll wait until Christmas to release it, but "Lionheart" was released in late October and was quickly drowned out by Christmas music, so if they do, they need to hurry up - it's probably generic anyway.
