All These Things I've Done & Space Man need some recognition too x (Smile Like You Mean It is the ultimate one though  but yes I'd rank pretty much every one of their earlier hits above Mr Brightside, good as it is x)

At the risk of this turning into a 'What's your favourite Killers song?' thread, 'Runaways' and 'Shot At The Night' always get overlooked too, both absolute tunes.

Hopefully the OCC publish a Killers top 20 list at some point.

To clarify why I mentioned other Killers song, I like Mr Brightside a lot but they have so much more. It’s a shame to see that song as the most streamed and yet not see the Killers feature in the most streamed artists lists.
I will give the much needed opinion that 'Mr. Brightside' is, in fact, their best song. x
Somebody told me, shot at the night, human, read my mind, smile like you mean it would all be above mr brightside for me, i do like mr brightside but prefer other singles,
Not a single woman in the top 15. Streaming era is so so sexist.

Poor forgotten Kyla says Hi. :hi:

I would've expected Dance Monkey to appear but it has declined massively in popularity in the last year or two.

Shallow is 5 x platinum (as is Unforgettable) so cannot be that far off from that list.

I see a lot of prejudice against Mr Brightside in here

is it cos it's doing so well I guess, no one likes a winner :D

I'd actually argue it's their best, the lyrics and storytelling are genius

and there are not many songs in history were the 2nd verse is the 1st verse repeated

can only think of Ben Howard-Oats in the Water...

Mr Brightside I would say is my most hated song of all time. I would listen to literally anything before that.

Also think Location is Dave's worst song by a country mile.

Yawn

I quite like the song (or did), but they have better for me and I've always thought that.

A. Some would call that lazy rather than singling such a fact out for praise

B. Half of Oasis's back catalogue has the 2nd verse the same as the 1st verse

Also no one is denying Mr Brightside is a great song (well actually a couple of people are lol), just that they've done better songs which don't get anywhere near the same recognition

I've always preferred 'Somebody Told Me' over 'Mr Brightside'. Unpopular opinion I know, 'Somebody Told Me' was the song that convinced me to buy their Hot Fuss album.

What is it with posters on this site always wanting to accuse other people of ‘hating success’ when they don’t automatically prefer the most successful songs to other songs? It’s absolutely nauseating.

I already said that I liked Mr Brightside, heck I used to love it. I loved it when I first heard it on the chart show back in 2004, I loved it going to parties in the mid to late 2000s where it felt like a bit of a cult hit after not being a big chart hit. It was one of the many great songs by the Killers and at the time it wasn’t necessarily their signature hit.

But as time goes on and it gets overplayed, it’s easy to lose love for it. Particularly now when streaming has made the increasingly boring listening habits of the general public even more apparent.

I’ll still dance to it on a night out when drunk with friends and I’ll listen when giving Hot Fuss a spin. But I wouldn’t ever seek it out to listen to anymore which is a shame.

There is a tipping point when songs just start to live their own lives. Mr. Brightside is one of them. Like Smells Like Teen Spirit, Bohemian Rhapsody, Last Christmas... nobody needs to hear these songs ever again, but people still play them.

They are just culturally embedded so you don’t need to seek them out they will be heard at certain points!
