This. And that's all I was saying esp. when comparing it to 'Take My Breath'. That song also had a similar heavy, slick production, drums etc...Teasers/snippets sounded waay better & more eventful then the actual song ended up. That's where the comparison ends.

 

Houdini imo sounds like a great club only track (or even album track) but lacks the pop/dance crossover sound for the GP-ESP in non Euro markets. But it's NOT a dud/ bad song except for that outro (sorry, it's kind of cringe) lol.

 

That said I'm a massive Dua fan and would lovve to end up *wrong w/ where this ends up on Friday!!

Tbf I don’t think people are writing it off entirely this time, of course it has time to grow.

 

But in terms of a #1 debut which a lot of people were expecting (with some pretty fair logic I think), those Spotify numbers do make it look a bit bleaker for her.

Dua has literally never debuted at #1 before. Houdini's off to a perfectly good start, especially when she's not really been away for long considering Dance the Night's still doing so well.

Exactly Dua is a proven longevity artist. She rarely peaks on the first week. Houdini can still go #1 if the song becomes viral on TikTok like Jack

Not heard the Jack Harlow song, nor do I have any plans to, but I like the new Dua Lipa song

I feel like I remember similar conversations when "Don't Start Now" came out and it ended up as a massive hit with a massive era to follow.

 

"Houdi" will likely have a lot of longevity/blow up more in the new year post-Christmas. It has a big advantage on youtube which will help this week - currently on 22.8 million views globally. Plus it'll be interesting to see how many physicals she shifts. Could still see her getting to #1 come Friday!

DTN had its own scene in Barbie and took off in parallel with the movie. Not sure if these two songs can be compared.
