The three Kim Petras tracks all ended up very close to each other but sneaking ahead to land as my favourite is 'brrr'. It's the first track so far that has managed double digits when it comes to weeks in my top 20. Produced by ILYA, who has his name all over a tonne of classic Ariana singles, you knew this would be good. And it very much is with the clanging electronic beat sounding very industrial and making the best slice of hyperpop I've heard for a while. This kinda of style really suits her. I know I was just banging on about how much I enjoy 'Alone' but, in general, I think Kim Petras just works better as a more underground artist and not a mainstream, hit-chasing artist that most of the album tries to be.

Back to 'The Good Witch' now and we've got the highest placed album track from it's standard edition. Talk about a song that just hits you out of nowhere, This wasn't on my radar at all as being a highlight from my first 20 or so listens of the album but, then, one one listen-through it just massively clicked. The chorus has not left my head ever since and it's one I was desperate to hear live and it was such a great moment like I expected. Lyrically, it's one of the tracks that lingers the most. It's quite a hauntingly pessimistic view of a relationship. It's been a good few years for Peter Pan themed tracks after the nod in Taylor Swift's 'Cardigan' and that Ruth B track

One of the biggest tracks of the year now and it's Olivia's big come-back single 'vampire'. You have to admire Olivia for deciding on a song like this for her return. It's not an obvious trend-chaser and is almost quite uncommercial in the way it takes it's time to build. If I had to compare it to another hit single of recent times, it would be Billie Eilish's 'Happier Than Ever'. Olivia has described it as her 'rock-opera'. A random fact for you, this album is supposedly about Olivia's relationship with Zack Bia and released 7 days after the 'GUTS' album was Madison Beer's 'Silence Between Songs' album that contained the single 'Reckless' which was about Madison's relationship with Zack Bia. Neither songs particularly paint him in a very good light so he must have been the most hated guy in the world when it comes to pop girlies for a time

Great to see both the Leigh-Anne singles making your top 100! They both deserved so much better imo :nocheer:

Queen of Kings, Single Soon & Can’t Tame Her are all bops, glad to see them appear here *.*

Loving all the Bebe, Olivia, Taylor & Maisie too. 'Wendy' & 'I Can See You' are two of my absolute favourites of the year so love seeing them high up in your countdown! <3

I really wish Leigh-Anne's tracks could have done better too. 'Don't Say Love' should have reached the top 10 at least!

Thank you for commenting :D

We're into the final stretch of 2023's chart and we start the fourth quarter with 'Feather'; Sabrina Carpenter's lead single from the deluxe version of her 'emails i can't send' album. I was so delighted that this started to find some popularity in Christmas and, as of yesterday, has grown enough to become Sabrina's first top 20 hit in the UK. She has been one of the most underrated pop stars of recent years so I hope this success will now continue. Seeing her live twice last year was a treat on both occasions and I certainly enjoyed hearing this one. We had to wait until Halloween before we got an official video but it was worth the wait with some fun visuals that allow Sabrina to show off her acting skills. It caused controversy with it's scenes filmed in a church, but, as she said herself, 'Jesus was a carpenter'. There's definitely some Saltburn vibes from the video so it's fitting that she's now apparently dating Barry Keoghan.

2022 73 What's Your Problem?

2022 76 Don't Come Back

2023 24 Exes

By releasing her album so late in the year, Tate definitely missed out on an extra couple of entries in my top 100 but she bagged herself two massive #1 hits that we're able to land very high. 4 weeks made ''exes' the equal longest running #1 hit of 2023 in my charts, albeit in a little bit of a December lull. It definitely feels like the era where Tate has become a proper main pop girlie. We've already seen in previous music videos that she's an accomplished dancer, but, especially in 'exes', she has fully embraced 90s/00s pop choreography and released a video that just feels like a moment. I can't wait to see her live later this year!

There was one album track from 'Silence Between Songs' that really stood above the rest for me and it was '17'. A reflective song, the track focuses on the difficulties of Madison's late teenage years after she was dropped from her label at 16 years old. It's a song that focuses on regret about the passage of time and feeling like you didn't do enough to appreciate your youth which I'm sure is a pretty universal message. I love the little production flourishes across the whole album, like the subtle ticking of a clock throughout the first verse that helps the introduce the theme of the song. The chorus is a real earworm and is the one from the album that I frequently catch myself singing. It does feel like a spiritual-successor to 'Dear Society' and she references the same two ages (17 and 21).

The two longest running #1 hits of 2023 have missed the EOY top 20 :o We had been so starved of any Ariana content for so long, but on my birthday weekend last year I got a little treat. I loved the STARBOY album at the time but 'Die For You' was never a favourite of mine from it. However, add a verse from Ari and you've got yourself a four week #1. The lethal duo never miss together with this being their fourth official collaboration. I don't think anyone would say this is anywhere near Abel or Ariana's best but it was just so good to hear her voice on something new again. Expect Ariana to be finishing a lot higher in next year's countdown, I'm already obsessed with 'yes, and'.

2023 15 Fashion Killer

Ayra Starr's EOY History:

2023 21 Rush

2023 97 My Love (Leigh-Anne feat. Ayra Starr)

The one afrobeats crossover that I've really loved and it's the one that couldn't reach the top 20 :( This was one of those rare occasions where I heard a song from an artist I was not familiar with and became hooked straight away. From the first listen, I just felt like Ayra is a star. I've really enjoyed everything else I've heard from Ayra since but there's just something special about this one. It's just a song that puts me into a good mood, I can't feel down while listening to this. The whole '19 & Dangerous' album is really fun and well worth a listen.

Hey Lewis :hi: these are my favourites so far:

22. The Weeknd & Ariana Grande - Die For You

24. Tate McRae - exes

26. Olivia Rodrigo - vampire

30. Taylor Swift - I Can See You

39. Dua Lipa - Houdini

45. Caroline Polachek, Charli XCX & George Daniel - Welcome To My Island

49. Bizarrap & Shakira - Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53

56. Jorja Smith - Little Things

66. Olivia Rodrigo - Can't Catch Me Now

94. Teya & Salena - Who The Hell Is Edgar?

98. beabadoobee - the way things go

112. Taylor Swift - "Slut!"

115. Olivia Rodrigo - all-american bitch

Ari and The Weeknd are a great duo together and the new version of 'Die For You' really helped the song grow on me  totally with you on being obsessed with 'yes, and?' as well, shall be interesting to see how that does for both of us next year

It took me a while to get into Tate's material but 'exes' changed everything, what an infectious song and she's such a star in the video.

It's been a great year for Olivia too, 'vampire' is a fab addition to her #1 singles, enjoyed quite a bit of the album too and 'Can't Catch Me Now' is lush. Hope you enjoy her live!

The Bizarrap/Shakira song wasn't too far off making my top 100, that was such a surprising but welcome return to the charts for her *.*

'Who The Hell Is Edgar?' was my favourite entry in its Eurovision semi final and remained high for me overall, such good fun

That's a great showing for 'Rush', it's so uplifting. Aside from missing the weekly Top 20, it's a shame it dropped out of the EOY top 100 towards the end.

Yeah, I'm very interested to see how 'yes, and?' does over the year for us and what else her new era will bring.

I'm happy to see you've been converted with Tate. It was 'feels like shit' that won me over.

Definitely a great year for Olivia. Thanks, I was lucky enough to see her when she first came to the UK so I know she puts on a great show. I can't watch to see how she adapts it into an arena setting

It certainly was a welcome return for Shakira. It's a shame it didn't manage to make your EOY chart in the end.

I agree that '...Edgar' was so fun. The performance seemed to go down so well in the room too. It deserved better!

'Rush' just couldn't catch a break. It would have been great to see it in the EOY charts ahead of 'Sex On Fire' at least.

Thank you all for commenting :D

I hope you like Maisie Peters because this is the first of five tracks from her inside my top 20. As you can see, being a pre-album single helped this to become my 3rd most streamed song of the year and maybe deserved to be higher in this list. This acted as the closing track to her shows on 'The Good Witch' tour so you know it has already become a fan-favourite. It fits her style perfectly, with the lyricism shining and the Tokyo set video being full of personality. I love the way the song was crafted to lead to the 'I won the break-up' line at the end of the bridge which makes the chorus it then goes straight into feel so euphoric. If anything from this album had the potential to crossover into the official charts, it was probably this one but it wasn't to be. I'm hoping she can get that elusive Top 40 hit sooner rather than later.

Avelino's Chart History:

2019 19 Belly Of The Beast

2023 01 Daily Duppy

Avelino's EOY History:

2023 19 Daily Duppy

In the year where we got our first 'Daily Duppy' to become a top 20 hit, we also got (IMO) the best ever Duppy and it ended up cruelly overlooked. Avelino is no stranger to the world of iconic freestyles, his joint 'Fire in the Booth' with Wretch 32 is about as good as rap gets, but, 8 years later, he shows what the added experience gives you, with a perfect verse. They need to study this in schools. Every single line hits, with GRM Daily's iconic video enhancements only making them all the more impactful. There's so many great schemes; the Nas bars, the incorporation of nearly every single rapper currently in the game, the education scheme. But there's one section in here that is so good, I'm just going to write-out the lyrics as my commentary. They speak for themselves. I still get goosebumps listening to this.

"We're singin' "God Save The King', when it's the streets that really need savin'

It's hard to bank on tomorrow, when you ain't got no savings

And blowin' up's the only way to beat inflation

The only other way will get you shifted on a day shift

You know the road, instead of showin' you the road to riches

They'll kick you to the curb and question why you're on the pavement"

Tate McRae's Chart History:

2021 02 Feel Like Shit

2022 03 She's All I Wanna Be

2022 01 What Would You Do?

2022 04 What's Your Problem?

2023 11 Guilty Conscience

2023 05 We're Not Alike

2023 19 Plastic Palm Trees

2023 15 Messier

2023 19 Calgary

Tate McRae's EOY History:

2021 28 Feel Like Shit

2022 07 What Would You Do?

2022 27 She's All I Wanna Be

2022 68 You're So Cool

2022 73 What's Your Problem?

2022 76 Don't Come Back

2023 18 Greedy

2023 24 Exes

I don't think there could have been a more perfect single with which Tate could return. We've seen the story a hundred times before where a young starlet who achieved fame in their teens decides that they want to be seen as more 'grown-up' and comes back with a 'sexy' video, but, unlike say 'We Can't Stop', this time the improvement in the substance of the song is there too. I've seen comparisons to the Timbaland productions of old but it's his noted collaborator 'Ryan Tedder' who receives credit for this one. It was a sound that has been crying out for a revival and Tate works it perfectly. This has become her biggest hit and with good reason. It's yet to get old to me at all.

It was the song of the summer and, almost. the song of the year and very deserving it was. With the two current biggest names in the UK Rap genre, the song was always going to find some success but we've seen countless big-name collabs flop and this needed to live up to the hype and it did that in abundance. With a Latin-tinged instrumental, it's not the type of track we're used to from either artist but they both found a way to slide all the way through the beat . It's great to see UK Hip-Hop finally gets some play overseas. This is a #1 hit in Australia and a top 5 hit in Canada being the histest charting hits of the genre in those regions and is within the top 100 songs of the year worldwide. Dave has helped double Central Cee's history in my EOY charts and achieve his first hit that doesn't land in the #80s section.

The first of two #1s from the deluxe version of Maisie's album but my first experience of it was not positive. I came away from my first spin of the album thinking that she had finally released a track I actively disliked. I thought the chorus sounded a mess with awkward vocals and off-putting production. However, what was once the problem became the tracks biggest asset upon repeat listens. The chorus is so unique that it became so memorable and I was constantly finding myself singing it in my day-to-day life. It's the 'punkiest' she's ever sounded and I've become a little bit obsessed.
