Surely if Biden doesnโ€™t stand down we have Trump back in the Whitehouse (and all those intolerant bigots will be enabled again)

Oh jeez!! We all knew he shouldn't run again. He shouldn't have run in the firdt place last time, but they were desperate to stop Bernie.

When you make Donald Trump say something correct ('I can't understand what he just said'), you know you're finished.

What a disaster, I think barring a massive scandal on the other side (because being a convicted criminal clearly wasn't enough x), the only way for the Democrats would be last minute replacing him, but even then that's a risk. Harris isn't really popular at all and will struggle against Trump.

It is mind-boggling and incredibly worrying how American seems this scared of progressivism that these are our options for president.

I find it bizarre that the US has a minimum age for a president of 35 but has now maximum age. Surely 70 would be a fair cut off? I'd actually suggest lowering the minimum age to 21 as well - the US needs younger politicians with more competence.
A debate in June for a November election is a bit odd. My theory is that the Democratic Party is split. Half want to replace Biden half want to stick with him. They got CNN to host an early debate as a feeler to how itโ€™ll go. Maybe the usual people who drug Biden up a bit decided to sabotage him. He looked incredibly old. The next day he looked 100x better and you had Obama tweeting on his behalf. It was like an attempted coup and they fought back the next day. Still in the balance I guess, the polls in the next few weeks will probably decide if they stick or twist.

They did it on purpose to have a long campaign to highlight the Trump campaigns lies it said!

He really needs to go, I don't know if any of the immediate replacements would be enough to oust Trump sadly but at least they'd have a shot of turning the narrative around, as it stands, he could lose by quite a bit, and the sad thing is I would understand their thought process as just being scared that he could die in office.
Whether he is cognitively fine or not, unfortunately the story has got ahead of him and there is no way he can win. Dems were sooo fesperste for hin too, even bringing in Obama and sabotaging Bernie!!! Thid id what they get. Tine for hin to step down, oe he will lose. Bernie and Clinron ticket, as ir should have been all along back in 2016.

He did, but tbf he corrected his mistake immediately after. Of course, the fact that he made the mistake in the first place will be pounced on by the Republicans, despite the fact Trump often makes many similar mistakes. They are both incredibly old for what is quite a demanding and stresful role and I think it's ridiculous that they have a lower limit of 35 (which rules out AOC standing) and yet this gerontocracy can play out.

Sounds like the momentum is building behind him agreeing to stand down now regardless.

I caught a few minutes of the press conference he called Kamala Harris vice president trump and just continued like he never said it

Pretty much exactly this. It sounds like this is how Biden has been behind closed doors for a little while now if it's now making its way into public appearances. You can't run for president looking like this to the public, that just isn't the job. It's late, it's unprecedented, but the primary process was an undemocratic washout this year anyway, but he needs to be gone.

ย

Only way I can see the Democrats still being in the race is that he steps aside at the convention, legitimacy from the primaries is retained by putting his support onto the only person it can realistically go to, Harris, and then let her step up to the plate and give it a go. It's not ideal, but with battleground states and polls looking more and more towards the Republicans with these gaffes dominating the media - the ONLY things that have shifted the needle for some time - it's the literal only option they have.
