January 5, 20242 yr Also what with this recurrent list - must be songs they had one the playlist long enough but are still peaking chart wise I assume given the nature of streaming and the charts now? It's a couple of songs that will have a higher rotation than the standard recurrents, be interesting to see how many extra plays these get compared to their normal recurrents. This type of playlist might be one they could develop to add in older tracks that have come back into the limelight - example Sophie Ellis Bextor, but we'll have to wait and see on that one and if they develop this playlist further.
January 5, 20242 yr I guess me and Hadji will start to include Strangers in our Now 117 predictions in the future! I wouldn’t at all be surprised if they chose to include him, let alone make the song Track 1 despite it not likely to be a major hit for him. I think it is very likely to feature if they still have the rights to those bonus tracks. As for the rest, I’m keen to see how Paul Russell does, I think that could be in the charts for a few weeks perhaps. Yep. He will be included as they seem to love Lewis. And as they sometimes tend to miss out on big hits, I wouldn’t mind if Murder on the Dancefloor didn’t get included as we have it on Now 51
January 5, 20242 yr Is this not quite normal and especillay for newer artists to re release songs following breaking through? Jungle aren't exactly 'breaking through' as R1 have supported them since their inception a decade ago, albeit they've had more chart success this time. However, yes it's a common occurence for indie/alternative acts to re-release already promoted tracks (e.g. Wet Leg recently).
January 5, 20242 yr The misspelling of 'entrepreneur' is really hurting my eyes  It's not a misspelling, it's a pun ('we put the trap in entrepreneur'). Great to see Zach/Kacey, Everything Everything and J.I.D all survived the Christmas freeze with the former two even rising - Everything Everything's first time above the C-List since at least the 'A Fever Dream' era I think? *.* Yay for Biig Piig and Jack/Dave up to B as well and Nicki's song being swapped as I thought it might be, I'd have preferred 'Everybody' but 'Pink Friday Girls' is also acceptable x Some rather stale additions, lol at The Last Dinner Party's current single being swapped out on the playlist for an older one :') This is really giving me Wet Leg flashbacks right down to them insisting on doubling down on a single choice I do not care for at all (see 'Wet Dream'), but then the only other song I've heard from them ('Sinner') is not that great either so don't know if they have the same potential as Wet Leg. And lol 'Candle Flame' being wheeled out again too although that is a tune and a half so I won't complain about that too much. Eh at 'Lil Boo Thang', you could have just ignored that one R1. I guess good that 'exes' is back now but just highlights how baffling a decision it was to briefly remove it in the first place!
January 7, 20242 yr I heard 'Murder On The Dancefloor' on R1 earlier this afternoon, I suspect they'll continue giving it a good number of spot plays! (Matt seemed very excited to be playing it x)
January 7, 20242 yr Being 40 to me MOTD seems to not be that long ago since it’s release but it’s like R1 playing something from 1978 in 2001 when I was listening, although music I suppose did change a lot more from 1978-2001 although maybe I just think that as I’ve lived through the latter period! January 7, 20242 yr Author It's not a misspelling, it's a pun ('we put the trap in entrepreneur'). I see, in that case he's forgiven! I heard 'Murder On The Dancefloor' on R1 earlier this afternoon, I suspect they'll continue giving it a good number of spot plays! (Matt seemed very excited to be playing it x) I heard them play it yesterday morning :D
