Didn’t realise Whitney’s song was the first with cd sales added, loving the stats!

When were cds available from or the cd player?

Some absolute classic no1s in the last few months and I thought the best of the 80s was 81-84, maybe I was being harsh. I always thought 1987 was dominated by house but other than January it’s not really been?

love that TTD track, he was really on fire

also love love love the Whitesnake song, one of the best ballads of the 80s, in my top 3 probably

I was obsessed with the song back in the day

‘I Still Bavent Found’ is classic U2, always reminds me of Sing 2 now 😅
oh my and they just announced a new album
Neil Tennant is 70 this year :o

Wow! :o

They've both aged so gracefully, I always think they come across really well when you see them in interviews etc

'Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' one of U2's best. Also a fan of 'Respectable, 'It's A Sin', 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody', 'You're The Voice', 'Stand By Me', I Knew You Were Waiting', La Isla Bonita', 'Everything I Own' and 'Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now' from the last several top 10's here. 'Is This Love' is alright but much prefer 'Here I Go Again' from Whitesnake!
I like both Here I Go Again and Is This Love but prefer the latter. It might actually my 2nd fav rock ballad behind Heart-Alone. Is this Love was also a US #2!

11TH JULY

PET_SHOP_BOYS_ITS+A+SIN+-+DOUBLE+SLEEVE-4243.jpg

The Pet Shop Boys easily retain the top slot for a second week on a healthy sale of 90,661 up a mere 8% week on week and look like they could be there for some time with Bruce Willis advancing 3-2 behind them but on a sale of just 52,598, some 38,000 short of what was required of him, he does however nudge ahead of the fast decreasing Firm who slip 2-3 (39,644). “It’s A Sin” was involved in a minor bit of drama this week when Jonathan King claimed in “The Sun” that the song was basically a rip off of Cat Stevens’ song “Wild World” which the boys have denied and threatened legal action.

There was a new bond film released last week in case you’d been living under a rock and that naturally means a new bond theme, and following in the footsteps of Duran Duran last time around are A-ha who get the honour of producing “The Living Daylights” with legendary producer and composer John Barry. That’s how the headline reads however it’s emerged over the weeks that all was not well in the studio with A-ha stating that Barry was not involved in the creative process and didn’t deserve his writing credit, and Barry stating that he found the group impossible to work with. A-ha were apparently adamant that their version would be the single but the record label have gone with John Barry’s remix and the single flies 17-5 (34,697) this week to give the group their 7th top 10 single. Their last single “Manhattan Skyline” only made No 13 in February becoming the first A-ha “failure” so I suppose that the success of the Barry version might give them some solace in returning the Norwegians to the big time. They'll also be hoping that history repeats- the last time Pet Shop Boys were at No 1 they were knocked off by....these boys of course!

Last year’s “Secret Lovers” became the first top 10 single for Atlantic Starr but so far 1987 is turning into an even greater year for the Americans. Their new single “Always” topped the US charts last month deposing Kim Wilde and now it starts to make waves over here moving 16-7 (25,687) to register their biggest hit.

Terence Trent D’Arby climbs 5-4 (36,023) but he’s way too far behind to advance further, and Cliff Richard rises 10-6 (27,863). The bottom of the top 10 are filled with fallers though, Whitney’s former No 1 trips 4-8 (24,718), John Farnham dips 6-9 (24,055) and Curiosity Killed The Cat ebb 7-10 (20,808).

that Always song is such a snoozefest

Living Daylights is great but actually much much prefer Manhattan Skyline which was their first top 10-miss

'The Living Daylights' is another good a-ha song.

The Atlantic Starr song is quite a nice one.

I love Manhattan Skyline too, I can see why it may not have appealed to their more pop leaning fans though.
Should I be ashamed that I love Cliff's 2 hits from 1987?

I remember when I found out that MPO was a cover. No idea. He's done a lot of dross but in general 80s Cliff is great

I didn't know that. :o

NGSMN is a great Sam Fox song. NGSUN by Starship is also great. And, obviously, IAS is fantastic song from Pet Shop Boys.
