December 11, 2024Dec 11 oh didn't realise 6-10 were so close Charli could be #6, fighting it out with Fleetwood Mac and Chappel Road and Guts and Coldplay should be #9-10
December 11, 2024Dec 11 I would expect Coldplay will get a bigger Christmas sales boost than Charli, Olivia and Chappell
December 11, 2024Dec 11 oh actually Coldplay were on Graham Norton last Friday so that promo should help them
December 13, 2024Dec 13 Wild to think both Beyonce and Dua have put out albums early in the year to aid with streaming sales and they’re both looking likely to not even be in the top 40. Beyoncé really does get by on her name as not many people seem to actually listen or buy her music.
December 13, 2024Dec 13 Author Could the Cure make it? Could come very close actually, though still think it may miss very narrowly. The Beatles Red could squeeze it out if its streams don’t go back to “1”.
December 13, 2024Dec 13 Could come very close actually, though still think it may miss very narrowly. The Beatles Red could squeeze it out if its streams don’t go back to “1”. Christmas sales come through - would love them to get there. Will the live album this week count towards the original
December 15, 2024Dec 15 It doesn't appear to be packaged with the original album so I don't think so.

December 17, 2024Dec 17 Author Dua’s live album didn’t do much but the sympathy effect may well have kept “Radical Optimism” in the Top 40 here!
December 17, 2024Dec 17 How on earth has that CoCoMelon thing quietly shifted 136,000 units?! Edited December 17, 2024Dec 17 by Mangø hø hø!
December 17, 2024Dec 17 Author Beyoncé vs Gracie vs 50 Cent for the final EOY top 40 spot? Beyoncé is definitely toast but I rather fancy George Michael currently at #42 to re-enter above 50 Cent!
December 17, 2024Dec 17 How on earth has that CoCoMelon thing quietly shifted 136,000 units?! I'm not sure the parents who have endured their young kids constantly playing their videos would describe it as "quiet"!
December 17, 2024Dec 17 Beyoncé has no shot of staying; it’d be a travesty if that album wins album of the year; nobody seems to be repeat listening to it. Should be a criteria for the album to be in the top 25 sales to win; as otherwise an album 95% of the population haven’t heard meaning it had minimal cultural impact.
December 17, 2024Dec 17 lol you don't need a go at beyonce's album every week since when critical and commercial success are. the same thing, lol, look at Westlife :D beyoncé's album hasn't done better cos the album was abandoned on release date not cos there is no interest it's all about promotion
December 17, 2024Dec 17 Hey just wanna say thanks Julian for posting these each week, the estimated numbers have to be time consuming to put together, and it's very appreciated
December 17, 2024Dec 17 Hey just wanna say thanks Julian for posting these each week, the estimated numbers have to be time consuming to put together, and it's very appreciated Hear hear! Very grateful for both YTD threads and Julian's hard work, been very interesting and helpful (and money-saving) this year. :yahoo:
December 18, 2024Dec 18 Author Hey just wanna say thanks Julian for posting these each week, the estimated numbers have to be time consuming to put together, and it's very appreciated You’re very welcome! Thanks all for reading and commenting and generally indulging my hyper-fixation hehe.
December 18, 2024Dec 18 Beyoncé has no shot of staying; it’d be a travesty if that album wins album of the year; nobody seems to be repeat listening to it. Should be a criteria for the album to be in the top 25 sales to win; as otherwise an album 95% of the population haven’t heard meaning it had minimal cultural impact. I feel like populism is an unrewarding trend in award ceremonies. If we want to know what's sold, streamed etc. the best, then we have that. Limiting the scope of what can be considered the best to the rare few that pass a necessary threshold diminishes the qualification of being the best because it's no longer competing with the whole field. To say nothing of how much marketing plays a part in deciding who is and isn't in that upper tier. What's the end purpose? To be a time-stamp of the (vaguely curated) sound of the times, to get the tick of approval of the majority and skate by paycheck-to-paycheck on conditional admiration, or to be looked back upon as a trusted tastemaker who can use their broad resources and experience to shine a light on the greater music world? I see so many publications confirming year after year that the pinnacle of music was successfully harvested by TikTok teens and it just seems so discouraging to music as a whole. That's not to say teenagers can't appreciate good music, but every year? I've spent far too long watching the sausage get made to have unwavering trust in the process. But if this is about the GRAMMY awards, they're really not worth taking seriously in any degree.
