I don't see how guarantees can be made yet, we have no indication of Ariana's trajectory, nor her physical sales. I'd say it's likely Noah will overtake but it's not certain. Her success with this was underpredicted and is now being downplayed curiously!

The general consensus is that the song is underwhelming. She isn’t as popular and overall I see a consistent downward trend from here onwards. When you include cd sales first day YouTube boost and iTunes etc she’ll probably be 3-4k ahead after day 1 then I see her losing 1-2k per day after that on both 2 and 3 I could be being presumptuous but I got a strong sense with this one

Yes a strong sense is definetly a reason to doubt it.

I swear people love to see a big profile act underperform on here it's so bizarre. She's #1 on Spotify with her biggest opening numbers for a lead single.

She definetly is still popular and I don't think the overall consensus is it's underwhelming, it's got a lot of positive reactions but you're probably turning a blind eye to that.

General consensus where? I'm seeing nothing but love for it! "isn't as popular" but she's still debuted at #1 on Spotify, up on her previous lead single. A downward trend from here may come, it's impossible to know for sure, but I'm not really getting where the downplaying of her early success is coming from.

Really? I’ve seen a lot of mixed reactions

Obviously different circles, I've seen a lot of love, but clearly it's not all underwhelming everywhere as per the post I was replying to!

This!!! Evrn I like the sang!! It actuslly doesn't look like she has lost popularity with those numbers!! Plus she's #3 most-strramrd worlwide of lsst year, even above Mariah, sooo...

Yes Ari

Refer to my post about Houdini for people loving to see popular artists fall and willing them to not succeed, definitely applying here again  Not sure if Yes, And will hold up but I hope so, I’m absolutely obsessed.

also she's #1 in the US with 3 million streams

You what? This forum has spent weeks making excuses for Houdini underperforming.

You must have missed the numerous TERMINALLY negative people who have been desperate to call it an underperformance since it entered at #2, almost excitedly so. And you can bet they'll do it to Ariana if she misses #1 too, because apparently anything other than the top spot is worthy of slamming.

Don't worry Sammy, we notice you and your ever-bright continual optimism loud and clear!

This is a bit different compared to Dua who had a big #1 hit and YE top 20 success right before Houdini. Of course people are comparing Houdini to DTN. Ariana doesn't have that burden. It's a lead single opening with fantastic numbers.

And I am a big fan of Dua, but understand that the comparison can be made.

Houdini is a song for a niche audience (people with good taste) yet got as high as #2, where's the underperformance...?

I'll look forward to the ever-bright continual optimism towards Ed or Drake's next lead single. There will be no slamming of them should they miss the top spot right?

Amazing that on here of all places, where female popstars get a much easier pass, you want to try and make this arguement about Dua or Ariana.

Houdini had it been by certain other artists would be dragged through the mud. Lead single, getting ridiculous radio play, 3 physicals, big playlisting, coming from a massive artist and limping through a chart run.

This forum has been very kind on Houdini. Ariana remains to be seen how it does.

I just don’t understand any of the underperformance tags…

Houdini has been a hit.

Ariana has literally just opened with huge numbers… I’m so perplexed

I don't get what you're trying to accomplish. Wow you got us, this forum has a more female leaning taste! Wow lock us up and throw away the key!

You've posted on here for years and whenever a female artist is underperforming or people think Ed/Lewis whoever is underperforming you are right away to post. It's weird to give a forum this much energy if you don't like it.

Id actually say this forum is much much more tolerant and loves the likes of Ed, Lewis and other male artists than others. Female pop has vocal supporters but doesn't do AS well in contests as it used to, other forums are even more biased.

I’d say it all comes down to the perceived quality of an artist on how the members of the forum approach them, not their gender. But it seems to be your usual angle.

Yes, people want Ed and Drake to flop (let’s not forget they also have huge support on the forum) but I feel that’s because they’re not perceived to be very good. They’re musically lazy and have very little issue getting success generally. However, artists like the Weeknd, Lil Nas X, George Ezra (Green Green Grass aside), Sam Ryder and even I’d argue Lewis Capaldi don’t get the same reaction and I think it’s because Buzzjack generally prefers their output. It’s just how it is but you usually overlook it.

I’m not a huge Dua/Ariana fan but they do seem to be deemed on here to be artists that have good output in addition to being female. That is why people don’t label them flops generally when they peak top 3. However, think of female artists like Jessie J, Jess Glynne or Anne Marie-generally regarded pretty poorly despite being female because their output is generally seen as not being that good.

It’s very easy to stereotype posters on here but you really need to stop. I’m not sure why successful female artists bother you so but it does feel like it’s unhealthy at this point.

I would like it if everybody could be a bit less biased tbh

This is all I want too. It is painful when you actually try and analyze how a song is performing on the charts (cus this is a chart forum after all) and you get labelled a 'hater' straight away.

It is absolutely fine to say Houdini is underperforming, as it is to stay Stick Season and Murder on the dance floor are way exceeding expectations.

Quality is completely subjective but we can easily look at the hype, exposure, playlisting, radio play of a song and judge how well it is doing compared to those things. Isn't that the point of this forum?
