Argh Cody, stop being so good at this!! I naturally can't complain at my 15 winning, the fact it was the very first track and stuck with me through the listenthrough (and many others) for that long says a lot!

 

Ooft, I'm very pleased to do that well, but missing the top 10 by one point when I was there for the whole reveal does sting just a tad :drama: :lol: I'm very pleased those that did like this seemed to like it a lot though, especially in a packed edition like this, it's a wonderful building track and I'm glad I remembered it's existence in time for this x

 

Very pleased to see my top 3 all in the top 10 and most of my votes did pretty decently, though Truly Being Alive deserved a bit higher than that </3

Would we call an unknown cover version of a Top 30 single from 24 years ago cheap? Perhaps on this forum we would but let's be honest here only a handful of people would've clocked it and known who it was. I certainly had no clue and if it was an issue then it should've been vetoed. However, as many of us will have experience of on this site, vetting a song contest for every entry is difficult and things do slip through the cracks before anyone says "it's not in the spirit of the contest". It was a discovery for me!

I've never heard of that particular Muse song so I can safely say it was a discovery for me

Congratulations on winning! I did think it may be the winner when it was decent and also first in the listings - for some reason I think UP always favours songs that are in the first part of the draw.

 

Very happy with third, especially as I was unsure what to send and left everything very last minute. I desperately need to find some new songs this year now as I'm raiding last year for both this and BJSC at the moment.

Congratulations Cody :cheer: can see why that was a standout for so many including myself - my bronze medallist winning just like last time!

Not a single point from the last 7 voters but still only falling from 5th to 7th *.* very happy with that and consider me shocked to have finished a fair bit higher than Winter eep! I did confirm Ashenspire first but then felt like wimping out and tried switching to Winter as a 'safer' option haha (and then didn't really have time to look for another entry after that was blocked so just went back to my original choice). I honestly thought that one might be a contender to win so 17th feels a bit disappointing but still not too awful I guess, thanks Kath for blocking me from another anonymous midtable result I suppose!

 

I think Surren Tweek is probably the one I'd have predicted to win going into the results if I made a prediction but not sure I saw it having such a huge lead - can't say it's undeserved though as it was in my top 5 so a fab winner, Cody winning every other edition of Unknown Pleasures of late! I voted for 4 of the top 5 and the other one was still among my commiserations that'll be added to my 2024 playlist anyway so all good stuff up there. Also happy to see Frost* in the top 10 although oh nooo that my top 2 ended up in 11th and 12th after both being in the top 10 for much of the results oops! Voted for Las Eras and Drab Majesty too so a few of my faves all lining up just outside the top 10 there but glad they all passed 100 points at least.

 

Almost all of my votes finished in the top half so not a lot to complain about, the one really disappointing underperformance aside from Winter is CRUZ (though still a few more songs I had as commiserations that were in the bottom half as well).

nah don't apologize when you have nothing to apologize for. I personally didn't care either way whether or not it was cheap, I just got caught off-guard by a muse cover showing up in the contest. people can have their opinions but imo if it's allowed by the mods then it's fair game.

(I also am pretty sure I have never heard the original Muse song - it only has 40 million streams on Spotify, only the third highest on that album, certainly nowhere near being one of their most well-known songs)

Covers in UP are fine as long as they're obscure, which this seems to be and it is hardly Muse's most well known song. I personally found this one stayed too close to the original for me to enjoy it as much, but that's subjective and nothing to be sorry about!
