June 24, 20241 yr Hadji bankrupting the Now Music series in just 4 weeks x Exactly how would it bankrupt them? I wouldn’t be making a mockery of the series. They’re bankrupting themselves by constantly reusing the same songs over and over again and if I was releasing music, I’d want my music on compilations. I’d be pissed off if they didn’t include it. Instead of using r2 artists as disc fillers, they could at least use songs which peaked between 41-100 as disc fillers Edited June 24, 20241 yr by Hadji

Instead of using r2 artists as disc fillers, they could at least use songs which peaked between 41-100 as disc fillers Now is a very niche prospect nowadays, with three staff and a small falling turnover, and very low profit, you can see their accounts for the year up to March 2023 on Companies House. https://find-and-update.company-information.../filing-history The reused 80s stuff and older is I'm sure where they make the bulk of their profit. Look at how well Jukebox and Rock Anthems did compared with The Vault, or how badly the Extras sell compared to the main Yearbooks. We may not like it but people seem to want to buy the same thing over and over again, and when something else is offered to them they don't want it. I would imagine the numbered Now series will not be making them much money at all these days, and if they spend the little profit they make on them on attempting to license the superstar artists then they may as well just pack their bags and quit now. If Taylor, Harry and Beyoncé desperately wanted to be on Now then they would offer up their music at an affordable rate. Clearly they don't do that so don't care. Packing the albums full of cheap Radio 2 fillers makes sense, because people in their mid 30s and up are who still buy compilations for the most part so you may win a few extra sales off the back of it and the licensing for them will be very cheap. Packing them full of a load of rap songs or whatever that peaked between 41-100 isn't going to increase sales, in fact it would probably harm them further. You wouldn't be able to have any sort of impact whatsoever on Queen, that is clearly something arranged with worldwide record labels because they kick off Bravo Hits spin-offs all the time too and countless other global compilations they appear on, and non Now compilations. June 24, 20241 yr Exactly how would it bankrupt them? I wouldn’t be making a mockery of the series. They’re bankrupting themselves by constantly reusing the same songs over and over again and if I was releasing music, I’d want my music on compilations. I’d be pissed off if they didn’t include it. Instead of using r2 artists as disc fillers, they could at least use songs which peaked between 41-100 as disc fillers It's easy to say, but I'm going to assume you know nothing about licensing in general, let alone for a compilation album. It's not like a Spotify/Apple Music playlist - you have to pay to make a physical release and that includes licensing artists. Songs are EXPENSIVE! Artists are now in more of a role of what they can do with their catalogue - if they say "no" they mean it! Rare occasions like Charity, Award, or Big Budget Soundtrack compilations can make their money back with sponsors or label backing (or licensing is a bit lenient due to a quick and easy charitable image). “Here's some stats to make you understand that it's not NOWs fault. Taylor Swift hasn't appeared on a non-NOW album since 2012, which was a Radio 2 album. So it was probably backed by the BBC or had a bigger budget. Since then Taylor didn't make a Clubland, a Pop Party, a "Your Songs" themed album, or any other themed/chart CD. Beyonce's last appearance was a remix of "Formation" on an Annie Mac album - again, similar situation of either backing from BBC or a bigger budget - or maybe Annie could pull the strings? "But what about the USA NOWs". It's one disc, and they probably get given the same kind of budget the UK gets, so they can splash some cash on bigger names like Taylor Swift. The Grammy albums were quite the prestigious compilation - so big acts were fine with their names appearing, especially if it meant getting closer to winning an award. But even they couldn't get Rihanna with "Work" for the 2017 edition - even though she was nominated. I really wish you'd read and acknowledge this kind of information and just accept that NOW isn't the almighty juggernaut of music! Even they have their limits, they always have! This is the compilation that couldn't get Madonna, Michael Jackson, Los Del Rio!!!!!!!, or the Baha Men! If you don't like the NOWs anymore, don't buy them - just make a playlist! Then you can add as much "urban" music and as much Taylor Swift you want and you can never have to worry about the "R2 style" artists infiltrating your ears ever again”

Queen is fair enough why they’re always track 1 but as for George Michael, I don’t see why he’s always track 1 and they’ll never put Queen and George Michael on the same compilation as only one of them can be track 1. How they should do it if they’re that keen to keep using George Michael on track 1 is put Queen as disc 1 track 1 and George Michael as disc 2 track 1 and as for including songs which peaked in the 41-100 region, I’d welcome dance music that peaked in that region especially on a summer edition. As for vault, people aren’t that keen on an album full of songs that missed the top 40 which is why I said it’s a better idea with the vault to include the hits which missed the main and extra yearbooks with the flops being the disc fillers and also, they tend to include the artists which they usually include and I’m surprised that Alison Moyet for instance who appears frequently on these spin-offs didn’t appear on any of the 1986 yearbooks. She appeared across the 1984 and 1985 yearbooks but not on the 1986 yearbook. That’s a prime example of a hit missing a main and extra yearbook Edited June 24, 20241 yr by Hadji

That’s a prime example of a hit missing a main and extra yearbook I can only imagine the estate of George/Wham! have agreed something similar since he passed away, as I don't remember it happening before this. They probably insisted opening Disc 1 or not at all as well, so Now have to make a choice in years both artists were active. For The Vault, I expect they've already included practically everything they can license, so there's really nothing big left to use. And if they do suddenly get access to a No.1 that they previously missed, it might look odd to put it on an album called The Vault. They could include more global hits (I like the idea of the US disc), but I can't imagine it would lead to many more sales. I think the idea is a dead duck anyway, nice concept but nobody bought it. June 24, 20241 yr I much prefer BuzzJack presents...... Fewer licencing issues, far more inclusive and vastly superior sequencing.

June 26, 2024Jun 26 That 'Training Season' -> 'Good Luck, Babe!' -> 'we can't be friends (wait for your love)' run on Disc 1 *.*
June 26, 2024Jun 26 Now 18 has 4 songs removed from there. I imagine Phil Collins and INXS are two of them. Don’t know which other two have been removed. Steve Miller Band has been removed from the cover. Can’t see him being removed as he just anppeared on Now Yearbook 1990 and Now 118 could’ve done with having the discs filled up and done with Shaboozey and a few 1xtra artists. Shame there aren’t any 1xtra artists on there Edited June 26, 2024Jun 26 by Hadji
June 26, 2024Jun 26 Not many 'Radio 2 artists' though and quite a few more top 10 hits than usual (15 I think when you count Good Luck, Babe! on Friday). Nice to see double Dua and Becky. I'd have probably used the Cascada remix of Never Be Lonely, Zoe's version is such a dull vocal in comparison. Happy to see beabadoobee and Nemo, although I'd have liked Joost on there too. Artemas feels very low down Disc 1. Tommy Richman, Mark Ambor, Central Cee and Shaboozey feel like the most notable absences aside from the obvious (Taylor, Beyoncé).

June 26, 2024Jun 26 For comparison sake, here's the tracklist for Germany's Bravo Hits 126, due out the same day as Now 118. I was expecting the La’s to be one of the removed tracks as they didn’t appear on any of the 1990 yearbooks and Kylie and PSB are the only two artists on Now 118 who also appear on Now 18
