He's always had a big fanbase in fairness, his second album with 0 real hits went to #1 in the US and he's been playing arenas for years.

 

He's played the TikTok game well in recent years, but I suspect he wouldn't be doing so well now if he didn't already have a large audience to make videos with his music. I suspected that his third album's lead single would do quite well as I saw a lot of love for him on there over lockdown.
