April 23, 20241 yr Day 23: In case I don't find a way to sneak him into any of the other weeks, here's some Gustavo Cerati! He was the lead of the Argentinian rock band Soda Stereo through the 80s and 90s before going solo. His second album Bocanada is one of my favourite things I've ever heard, a sort of mix of trip hop, rock and electronica (very much feels to me like the male Ray Of Light). YqkM934jBU8

I could be really obvious and go for my beloved Belinda Carlisle but I already used her earlier in the month so let's go down the Spice Girls route instead. I know her voice is quite divisive but Melanie C has always been my favourite Spice - picking my favourite track from her isn't easy, I have a particular affection for 'Loving You' and 'Next Best Superstar' but I'm going to try and manifest the summer by going for this banger! 8E7yYNGIKvk
April 23, 20241 yr Day 23: I could honestly have chosen about 100 songs/artists, but I think - after being around and relevant for nearly 25 years since going solo from Theaudience, I have to respect Sophie Ellis-Bextor on this occasion. Instead of the obvious choice, I'll go with this summer 2002 banger. r72Sbmj2OrM
April 23, 20241 yr DAY TWENTY THREE - A solo artist who used to be in a band tIhdbCfHIgE An excuse to use Aimee Mann, who I really think is the most underrated singer/songwriter of our times. She's released a string of amazing albums since she left 'Til Tuesday but has never really managed to break through, the closest she came was having her music featured in the Magnolia film (for which the director used her songs almost exclusively)
April 23, 20241 yr was Dusty Springfield in a band? Yes a trio with her siblings called The Springfields! They had a couple of Top 5 hits in the UK.

I'm surprised no one's gone for the biggest artist in music history yet! Edited April 23, 20241 yr by Mangø

April 23, 20241 yr I loved her album 'Whatever' but haven't really heard much of the stuff after that. Whatever is one of her weakest imo! It is very of its time but 'Lost in Space' is fairly commercial(ish) whilst Bachelor #2 is probably the most well known album as it contains her material from around the time of the Magnolia soundtrack. She has quite a set style to her songs and songwriting though so people tend to either love her or just not really get it.

April 23, 20241 yr Author April 24th – A song you like from the 90s by an artist who had a hit in the 80s challenged by Hadji Another day, another challenger. Today, it’s Hadji’s turn to get our memories working, and this time we are focusing on music specifically from the 90s era, with the condition that the artist must have had a hit of some sort during the 80s era. It doesn’t matter if the artist has had hits in other eras before or after this time period, only that they had a hit in the 80s before. To be clear, the chosen song from the 90s that Hadji has asked for doesn’t have to have been a hit, and he asked me to make it clear that he will also allow solo artists who were in a band in the 80s. Black Box – I Don’t Know Anybody Else {nominated by TheSnake} Blondie – Maria {nominated by Linds.} Cher – Believe {nominated by spiceboy} Cyndi Lauper – Sally’s Pigeons {nominated by Scene} De La Soul – Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey) {nominated by LewisGT} Depeche Mode – Home {nominated by King Rollo} Duran Duran – Come Undone {nominated by JulianT} Echo & The Bunnymen – Nothing Lasts Forever {nominated by Severin} Elton John – Something About The Way You Look Tonight {nominated by Y'all Starlight} Enya – Anywhere Is {nominated by uhsting} Everything But The Girl – Missing {nominated by jimwatts} Janet Jackson – Together Again {nominated by Hadji} Katrina And The Waves – Love Shine A Light {nominated by Roba.} Kylie Minogue – Better The Devil You Know {nominated by Yobnedor} Madonna – Ray Of Light {nominated by awardinary} Metallica – Enter Sandman {nominated by Jade} Michael Jackson – Who Is It {nominated by dandy*} New Kids On The Block – Step By Step {nominated by Cowboy Cody} New Order – Regret {nominated by Ansel} Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark – Sailing On The Seven Seas {nominated by PeteFromLeeds} Pet Shop Boys – Se A Vida E (That’s The Way Life Is) {nominated by gooddelta} Phil Collins – You’ll Be In My Heart {nominated by Cow P} R.E.M. – Shiny Happy People {nominated by Mack.} Roxette – Joyride {nominated by Mangø} Salt-N-Pepa with En Vogue – Whatta Man {nominated by Riser} Sinéad O'Connor – Black Boys On Mopeds {nominated by Bjork} The Pretenders – I’ll Stand By You {nominated by Herbs} U2 – One {nominated by Chez Wombat} Whitney Houston – I Have Nothing {nominated by Tafty³³³} ——————————— 29 NOMINATIONS ——————————— WATCHLIST DalekTurret32 danG Dexton isanka JosephBoone k👠th Liam RobBot seven.
