Biography

There’s purpose in Dua Lipa’s euphoric pop. “For me, it’s about championing women and putting ourselves in the position of power,” the singer told Apple Music in 2020, ahead of the release of her second album, Future Nostalgia. “I have been inspired by the female alphas that have shown me that we can do it. And that we can wear the pants, you know? We need more of that in music.” Forcing the world to get a little more comfortable with female alphas has been a mission statement for Lipa (born in London to Kosovar Albanian parents in 1995) since her 2017 self-titled debut. It housed the triumphant breakup smash “New Rules”, the self-love anthem “IDGAF” and the assured “Hotter Than Hell”—songs which made it clear that this was no ingénue, but rather an outspoken, effortlessly cool face of pop’s future. Indeed, that status was cemented a year later when Lipa made history as the first female solo artist to receive five BRIT Award nominations. She won two and, in 2019, added two Grammys to her mantelpiece.

Despite the success of her debut, Lipa wasn’t interested in recreating its hits. “People always say, ‘The second album is really scary,’ but for me, it’s more scary to go back into the studio and try to create something like ‘New Rules’ or ‘IDGAF’ over and over again,” she said. “I feel like I’d end up in a vicious cycle of trying to get somewhere but never being able to mature as an artist.” And so, to move forward, she pivoted to the past, drawing on disco and funk—and filtering it through her ahead-of-its-time pop—to arrive at Future Nostalgia. Decadent and every bit as empowering as those early hits, it brought Lipa her first Mercury Prize nod, multiple Grammy nominations and a rightful place in pop’s upper echelons. And with it, too, came Lipa’s new purpose. Released just as the world went into lockdown amid the coronavirus crisis, Future Nostalgia became an urgent tonic for tough times—danced to in living rooms across the world. Yet Lipa wasn’t done there: Five months later, she unveiled Club Future Nostalgia, a thrilling remixed version on which the singer teamed up with club queen The Blessed Madonna, and guests including Madonna, Missy Elliott, Gwen Stefani and Mark Ronson, to bring lockdown-fatigued listeners another dose of escapism. “I didn’t think I’d be putting albums out during a global pandemic,” added Lipa. “But it’s just about creating experiences for everyone at home. That’s the most important thing for me now.”

All of this, of course, is only just the beginning. “I really feel like I’m finding my feet,” said Lipa. “I feel so proud of Future Nostalgia as a whole and the most confident and the most myself making it. But I’m already planning the next move.” - Apple Music

Biography

After building up buzz independently and attracting a growing fan base, Ohio singer, songwriter, and artist Michael Marcagi announces his signing to Warner Records. Today, he unveils his new single, entitled “Scared To Start.” On the anticipated new track, which has received an overwhelmingly positive response on TikTok, bright guitar echoes through a steady tambourine-driven beat. Marcagi’s dynamic delivery takes hold on the verses, while his storytelling immediately transfixes. “‘Scared to Start’ is a song for the adventurers, the travelers, and the people who look forward without dwelling on the uncertainties of life,” Marcagi says of the track. “It's about taking the risks and putting yourself out of your comfort zone, regardless of what the rest of the world has to say.” Michael recently made waves with his first solo single, the fan-favorite “The Other Side.” Since its release last month, the track has gathered millions of streams and counting. Right now, he’s preparing more music for release in 2024. Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, Michael Marcagi arrives with an emotional and engaging tale to tell. He emerges out of the heartland as an eloquent, artful songwriter and captivating storyteller with a whole lot to say. - Warner Records

Biography

As Noah Kahan changes, he casts those experiences onto songs like light through a film projector. At the core of the music’s upbeat energy and unfiltered lyrics, you’ll hear who he was before and who he became — almost in real-time. The Vermont singer still pens songs straight from the heart and still cracks jokes with his signature, self-deprecating sense of humor; he’s just changed in all of the right ways (and chronicled them via his songwriting). He gained that understanding through quite the journey from small town Vermont to global renown. He’s racked up over one billion streams, released two full length albums (Busyhead, 2019 and I Was/I Am, 2021) and a mid-pandemic EP (Cape Elizabeth, 2020), picked up a Gold Certification for “Hurt Somebody” feat. Julia Michaels, and performed on television shows such as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and TODAY. Not to mention, he’s collaborated with everyone from Joy Oladokun to Chelsea Cutler to mxmtoon to Quinn XCII to Gryffin. After 5 years of critical acclaim and global touring, he sought an even purer style of writing and arrangement, a challenge from within to convey a vivid representation of what he loves, fears, and struggles with most passionately. Now, Noah continues to progress with his highly anticipated new album Stick Season out now. - Spotify

Biography

Future

There’s a good anecdote that Future recounted in an interview—about getting into an argument with a guy who was worried about one of the Atlanta rapper’s engineers. The engineer hadn’t left the studio in a week. Had he even eaten? Don’t worry, Future said—he himself hadn’t left in a week, either, and someone was bringing in Wendy’s from up the block. Barely a season goes by without new music from the rapper born Nayvadius Wilburn (in 1983)—whether it’s a mixtape, solo album or collaborative project (with Drake, with Gucci Mane, with the producer Zaytoven). But prolific isn’t the half of it. Druggy, raw, slick and surreal, Future’s sound—crystallised on highlights like 2014’s Honest, 2015’s DS2 and 2017’s HNDRXX—has helped redefine 2010s street rap as something strange and almost avant-garde: trap as modern psychedelia. Not that it isn’t melodic too. Like fellow Atlantan and collaborator Young Thug, Future has a way of bending his voice (often using Auto-Tune) into soulful, often sad shapes, half-rapped and half-sung—the sound of a crooner stuck in space. “The biggest thing is just being yourself all the time,” he told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in early 2017. “When you try and be yourself all the time, everyone’s not gonna like it. But you gotta wake up with that person. At the end of the day, you can be able to look at the person and be like, You know what, I know I’m being myself; I’m not being anyone else. And that’s the greatest thing about this: It’s me being myself.” - Apple Music

Metro Boomin

When the boy who would become Metro Boomin (Leland Tyler Wayne, born 1993) decided he was going to get serious about the rap thing, he intercepted his mother after work with a thick green folder—part dossier, part wish list, part five-year plan. Mom was impressed. He’d already been making beats for a few years, pestering A&Rs on Twitter, crowbarring some connections. He’d even gotten paid a few times. By the time he graduated from high school, he and Mom were making eight-hour-long car trips from St. Louis to Atlanta so Metro could work with Gucci Mane and OJ da Juiceman—contingent, of course, on him keeping his spot on the honour roll. A few months into his freshman year at Morehouse, it became clear that the balance was too tough to keep up. Mom chewed him out. But the work—glossy, atmospheric monsters that pushed trap to cinematic extremes—had too much traction to ignore. The green folder bore out. Future (“Mask Off”, “Low Life”), Migos (“Bad and Boujee”), Post Malone (“Congratulations”), 21 Savage (“Bank Account”), Kodak Black (“Tunnel Vision”): Just a sampling of what followed is some of the most definitive rap of the 2010s, tracks that—alongside the work of collaborators and fellow Atlantans Sonny Digital, Southside, TM88 and Zaytoven—reshaped hip-hop’s sound, feel and culture. That Metro tackled longer-form projects—full-length collaborations, executive productions—not only made him unusually well-known for a producer, but suggested a broader vision, a transcending of the day-to-day business of beatmaking in favour of building a movement. After a handful of years sharing top billing and a baker’s dozen of platinum records in the bag, he released his own album, 2018’s NOT ALL HEROES WEAR CAPES, a couple of months past his 25th birthday. - Apple Music

Most of the time, as I said before, they manage this quite well and they actually do play the new music that's entering the top 40 or climbing upwards, but weeks like this do seem to happen rarely where they don't really care about actually presenting a *chart* show, which is disappointing.

I think it would work, if the industry hadn't shifted to a Friday release and Friday chart. It worked on a Sunday back then, but obviously the whole word isn't gonna reset just to place a few grumpy people who think 'the past was better' like me There also seemed to be much more artist interaction back when it was longer (I'm thinking Reggie and Reggie and Fern days when I was school age). I guess the shorter longs would make it hard to put in enough filler around the chart if it was three hours long.

Weeks like this seem to be happening more. Skipping New Entries is really bad for a chart show.

Surprised how many number 1’s future has had in America he's absolute garbage and his voice has a horrible sound

As a child, Beyoncé started performing in various singing and dancing competitions. She rose to fame in the late 1990s as a member of the R&B girl group Destiny's Child, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. Their hiatus saw the release of Beyoncé's debut album, Dangerously in Love (2003). She then followed with the US number-one solo albums B'Day (2006), I Am... Sasha Fierce (2008), and 4 (2011). After creating her own management company Parkwood Entertainment, Beyoncé achieved critical acclaim for the experimental visual albums Beyoncé (2013) and Lemonade (2016), which explored themes such as feminism and womanism. With her queer-inspired dance album Renaissance (2022), she became the first female artist to have their first seven studio albums debut at number one in the US. Beyoncé's most successful songs on the Billboard Hot 100 include "Crazy in Love", "Baby Boy", "Check On It", "Irreplaceable", "If I Were a Boy", "Halo", "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)", "Drunk in Love", "Break My Soul" and "Cuff It". She is the only woman in history to have at least 20 top 10 hits as a solo artist, and at least 10 as a member of a group. Her collaborative music ventures include Everything Is Love (2018), an album with her husband and rapper Jay-Z, released as the Carters, and the musical film Black Is King (2020), inspired by the music of the film soundtrack The Lion King: The Gift (2019). Homecoming: The Live Album (2019), which documents her 2018 Coachella performance, has been heralded as a historic live album for its tribute to multiple generations of Black music. Outside of music, she has starred as an actress in films such as Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002), The Pink Panther (2006), Dreamgirls (2006), Cadillac Records (2008), Obsessed (2009), and The Lion King (2019). Having sold 200 million records worldwide, Beyoncé is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Her accolades include a record 32 Grammy Awards, as well as 26 MTV Video Music Awards (including the 2014 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award), 24 NAACP Image Awards, 35 BET Awards, and 17 Soul Train Music Awards – all of which are more than any other artist in the music industry. Her success during the 2000s earned her recognition as the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)'s Top Certified Artist of the Decade and Billboard's 4th best artist of the decade. She is the most successful black touring act in history and received the Pollstar Touring Artist of the Decade award in 2021. Time included her as one of the 100 women who defined the 21st century. - Wikipedia
