If Taylor doesn’t perform better than Midnights, the decline narrative will begin. She’s bound to decline at some point as is the case with every big artist in history and it will seemingly come out of nowhere.

She peaked with 1989, and then “flopped” and then re peaked kind of with folklore and of course the pick of all peaks - Midnights and the tour. So maybe she will “flop” now but never say never again with her :)

I think artistically, Midnights can be seen as an underperformance. I don't revisit it at all and it's among her bottom 3 as far as her album ranking goes. It's definitely not her "magnum opus" and the expectations are not super high for the new one. But it might ve just me, so..

To those of you expecting Taylor to do over 1m... you will need to readjust your expectations. I can't see her doing 1m. She's doing (at max) 750k imo. Then level out at around 500k for the rest of the week with whichever song it is that randomly decides to take off.

If Hozier is still pulling this kind of number in over a week I think she will probably go #2, #8 and #9 officially or something. I'm not sure she can do "all in the top 5" but we shall see.

Spotify is pretty huge right now to where we had four songs doing over 600k not long ago with the hype that comes with Taylor and inevitable discourse combined with casual curiosity and hardcore fans replay I think 1 mill is very realistic. I expect her to occupy 70% of the top 20 and have 4-5 above 800k

I think Taylor is much popular than she was 2 years ago

The Eras tour + Midnights + Cruel Summer has put her in a much better and higher place

the anticipation for this new album is huge

I'm sure the focus track will do more than 1 million, far far more i'd say, it's a sorta Adele-esque comeback

(when Adele was huge, not now obv), so 1.5 /2 million wouldn't surprise me

but will see soon I guess :)

It's probably the furthest thing from an Adele-esque comeback given Adele didn't release new music for six years before Easy On Me and Taylor has had something out every five seconds recently.

Exactly. the public have probably reached saturation point at this stage. 850k-950k for her is probably the best she can hope for.

I feel like she may have reached or be nearing saturation point by now though, if the backlash to the Grammys is anything to go by. Obviously she’ll still have huge numbers but it wouldn’t surprise me if they don’t quite reach Midnights levels.

What backlash?

What backlash?

Her announcing her album during her speech seemed a little contrived, and her totally ignoring Celine Dion didn’t do herself any favours! Not sure how you missed it, it was everywhere

Lmao I don't think anyone has actually turned on her because she ignored Celine Dion one time.

If anything it's overexposure she'll suffer from. Sure her stans will bring about a strong first day album bomb but beyond that there might not be as many people gagging for new music from her given how everywhere she's been lately.

This, and I don’t agree on the second part but that can happen!

But cuz she didn’t say hi to Celine Dion and did it a minute after she’ll flop and be hated? Yeah, right. 😂

Well I think it shows she’s not untouchable and that people are getting a bit sick of her act personally

Like I said, she was already “hated” before Reputation. It will happen in any career, no drama.

That “hate” was as contrived as anything she does and was purely for the aesthetic of the era
