Noah's peak was 844,562 on 19th January, but it's far too early to compare the two. Stick Season had already been top 10 for 3 months when it peaked and it's still doing over 500k 3 months after peaking. In the streaming era longevity is much more important than how many streams you can get in a day.

Over the moon for Hozier being this huge though, would love for it to hit over a million! Must be extremely rare for anything to climb to that level rather than debuting there (Xmas aside). Friday is always the biggest day though so we'll probably have to wait until next week if it does make it.

That's just fine for Dua, I was expecting worse than Training Season so for it to have a similar start is great! Brilliant for Perrie to be off to such a strong start particularly in comparison to Jesy and Leigh-Anne.

To be fair it’s pretty on par with Jesy’s debut (#12 with 244k). Much stronger than Leigh-Anne’s (#54 with 130k). We’ll see how she holds up though the rest of the girls singles pretty much freefell, I have a feeling she’ll hold up a bit better

The Christmas stuff benefitted Noah with the ACR situation not sure how Hozier can compete long term due to that

oh Hozier on 860K!!

Wow huge increases, could be no1 for 3-4 weeks unless Taylor is huge from the off!

Thrilled for Sabrina to start so well! Feel like this one will end up being everywhere this summer.
Good start for Perrie and will be boosted by the physical formats this week (7”, CD and cassette) - hope it has some legs and is not a 9-26-40-58-75 type of release so that she can build a solo career.

I do think it's perhaps a little fast for Dua to be moving on from Training Season, because it's still doing just fine in the UK. Is it her biggest hit ever? No, but it didn't need to be. Its global performance is a little less great so perhaps that's why a new single has come out at this stage  I think personally I'd have launched Illusion a week before the album, to give it a shot at debuting well, before an album boost gives it a leg up!

They could have released a Training Season remix with a big name artist, a la yes, and?, to give it a little more life in the chart, but I think they'd be due a third single before the album's release anyway. Ariana always planned to launch single 2 with the album, hence the Mariah remix giving yes, and? a little further exposure before the album release, whereas Training Season would likely be on ACR by the album's release anyway, remix or not. Besides, the album having three hits on it by its release will be a HUGE helping hand for the album's streaming figures, especially beyond the first week!

5 weeks top 10 now though is very average especially for a big name. If a song has enough radio support and playlisting to make the top 10 then they tend to hang around for ages.

[...] when a big name debuts big but slides down and is out the top 10 after 5 weeks then it is fair to say it might have underperformed as any song these days that truly becomes a hit will probably be in the top 10 for a couple of months at least.

Basically what Joseph said. However, Houdini and Training Season will not magically collect 500k/day when the album is out which is why they should've maximised Illusion's debut and not release it this early. I cannot see her releasing another big focus track with video and airplay when the album is out.

Edited by Sour Candy

Whilst the poster might be looking for a reaction I do think we need to revaluate what we conder a success in light of how long songs spend on average in the Top 10 - both Houdini and Training Season dropped out the top 10 quite quickly. Maintaining - rather than just obtaining - a Top 10 spot is going to be the mark of true success in the future.
She occupies 3 of the top 50 globally which is more than anyone else right now and that's before the album release. If we look at beyonce she released two singles at the same time and one of them had a couple days in the global 200 before dropping out. It's not easy to do

I also agree that there was no need for a 3rd single prior to the album... I'd also would have milked Training season a bit more and push the new single on album release day...

In regards of the Oh Dua has so much playlist support accusation... another thing worth considering imo is that playlists like HH can make a song a hit like Alibi, and they can get 200-300K a day and be low top 10... but the days when HH could make a #1 are gone

now it's Tiktok that makes you a #1, without a bit of help from Tiktok you cannot have 600-700K streams a day, for that you need to be viral on Tiktok,

so Training Season has done pretty well for a non-viral song, for weeks it's been the #1 non-viral song, the highest song in the chart not fuelled by Titktok unlike all your Benson Boone, Djo, Texas hold'em etc

A year ago HH could make you a #1, now not anymore, you have to put it into context

Training Season came out 3 months before the album, it would've taken a bit of work to keep it off ACR until the album release. Even then, it'd likely be off radio playlists by then, so a third single before the album was *always* necessary imo, just perhaps not this early.

TikTok's been a big factor in a song's success for years now, it felt most prominent during the first lockdown in 2020 when songs like Say So were taking off, Young T & Bugsey got a second wind with Don't Rush, 24kGoldn scored his two hits (as primary artist), then into 2021 when The Kid LAROI broke through and Doja continued to ride the wave with the Planet Her era. TikTok isn't just making #1s now, it's been a big factor for ages. The difference now is that the pool of songs on TikTok is smaller, so there's less choice and we're really noticing the non-Universal songs that are having a viral moment on there.

Let's look at the #1s we'd had by this time last year. Lewis and Ed had scored CD-fuelled chart-toppers, Miley's Flowers was a *massive* viral moment, and RAYE's Escapism. was huge on TikTok, so there were extra factors involved in all of these, while David Kushner's viral Daylight was within touching distance of the top spot too. Calvin's Miracle was the only #1 that didn't seem to have any external factors involved beyond good playlist support (and probably good timing as the weather improved etc). It's not only now that TikTok's a factor in a song's success, it was the same before, except it was a little more spread out.

Guess we will find out but I don't think training season will go ACR it gained on spotify this week from what I saw

Apple Music :

#10 Perrie

#21 Dua Lipa

#40 Sabrina Carpenter

For what it's worth, I also would have expected an artist of Dua's stature to get more than 5 weeks in the top 10 with a pre-album single (especially one as commercial sounding as TS). I also would have expected 'Illusion' to be an easy top ten but going on how it sounds, I think it's going to struggle to get there, though I'm hoping to be proved wrong!
