April 29, 20241 yr Author Onto quarter three of 2010; Gorillaz – On Melancholy Hill [Peaked at #78 in July 2010] The British virtual band weren’t so chart successful this era as the previous two. This flop failed to make it into the Top 40 by some margin, but they were able to have a Top 40 single before the end of the year. 04mfKJWDSzI Justin Bieber – Somebody To Love [Peaked at #33 in July 2010] Justin Bieber fever was everywhere in 2010, and perhaps this single deserved to do better than its #33 peak. Even an Usher remix wasn’t able to get it any higher. SOI4OF7iIr4 Diana Vickers – The Boy Who Murdered Love [Peaked at #36 in July 2010] X Factor contestant Diana Vickers followed up her #1 hit with this single that struggled to get any higher than a few places within the Top 40. bibg3HLaeag Klaxons – Echoes [Peaked at #55 in August 2010] Whilst this band were able to have some chart success back in 2007, they were not able to do as well with this single three years later. ZJgOLu5iAFs The xx – Islands [Peaked at #34 in September 2010] It climbed and it climbed, but the peak it managed was #34, which perhaps was about right for a song from an unknown band at the time, but it’s legacy suggests it should have done better. PElhV8z7I60 Nick Jonas – Introducing Me [Peaked at #51 in September 2010] A first solo effort by Jonas Broher Nick, from the soundtrack to Camp Rock 2. It would be a few years later that he would push his own solo material to the public, but at least this one set him up a little. ukWPR88H53Q Scissor Sisters – Any Which Way [Peaked at #81 in September 2010] A failed attempt for Scissor Sisters, whose only hit this era was Fire With Fire. Perhaps if this had been pushed more with some promotion it could have stood a chance of another Top 40 hit. HHv0jW4p_xA
April 29, 20241 yr I'm still not over Any Which Way not being a smash. The 7th Heaven Remix is top tier.
April 30, 20241 yr The Diana Vickers one I find a little baffling. From #1 single to just scraping the top 40. Was it the wrong choice prehaps?
April 30, 20241 yr The Diana Vickers one I find a little baffling. From #1 single to just scraping the top 40. Was it the wrong choice prehaps? I don't believe so. I think the first single and the album got to #1 because they piled a ton of hype into it, and I think that was evidenced by both of them (sadly) falling down the chart like they had a brick tied to it. This single was released after the album and was a different situation.
May 6, 20241 yr Author Realised I forgot to finish 2010 flops, so here’s some highlights from the last quarter of the year; Selena Gomez & The Scene – Round & Round [Peaked at #47 in October 2010] Following the Too 10 hit Naturally, youngster Selena Gomez was still in the early days of her music career, and so some flops would be expected, and here is one of them. UfcvO2t8Ntg Plan B – The Recluse [Peaked at #35 in October 2010] 2010 was a good year for Plan B. Having scored three Top 20 hits already, including the massive hit She Said in the summer, it was a post-album single that didn’t have the same impact as the others. s5TxIynodew Kelly Rowland – Forever And A Day [Peaked at #49 in October 2010] Kelly’s solo career has been very hit and miss, with many great singles struggling to make any sort of chart impact. Commander came before this and smashed, this didn’t. HcMh3EujSu0 Eliza Doolittle – Rollerblades [Peaked at #58 in October 2010] Sticking with October flops, Eliza Doolittle had released Skinny Genes earlier in the year, but her big hit came with Pack Up which reached #5. This one did not perform as well as those. oud4oMWqfLY Jamiroquai – White Knuckle Ride [Peaked at #39 in November 2010] The last charting hit for Jamiroquai, having achieved major success in the 90s and early 00s, it seemed that there was no room in the charts for any more music from Jay Kay and co. k_bQ0h85gY8 Alistair Griffin – Just Drive [Peaked at #38 in November 2010] Having already broke into the music industry many years previously thanks to appearing as a contestant on Fame Academy, Alistair Griffin achieved an unlikely Top 40 single which was his last. CnxiRt4qeM4 The Script – Nothing [Peaked at #42 in November 2010] The second era from The Script was a far cry from their first. One hit from the album, and only this other charting single to show for it. Not their finest material but deserved a little better than it got. KMihKmoYfe8 Flo Rida – Turn Around (5 4 3 2 1) [Peaked at #41 in December 2010] From a UK #1 in August to a #41 flop in December, rapper Flo Rida had a funny year of ups and downs, together with a feature on a single by The Saturdays, but this one was a flop. N46x3_cObxM Christina Aguilera – Express [Peaked at #75 in November 2010] Taken from the soundtrack to Burlesque, this non-hit for Christina was released along with the Christmas singles of 2010 and failed to peak any higher than #75. hc7wUiDXlp0
May 6, 20241 yr It always makes me sad whenever I speak about Duffy now tbh. What she endured and had to go through was tragic! :(
May 14, 20241 yr In the UK Owl City's follow-up to 'Fireflies' was different from the rest of the world. Either way that second hit would be out of reach for him until 2012. yRpkRf99tz0
May 14, 20241 yr The 2012 thread reminded me of this gingercide MIA music video from 2010. I don’t think it became a hit. IeMvUlxXyz8
