Posted April 17, 20241 yr xAxNaLAR2to It's 5 years since Madonna released 'Medellín' as the lead single from 'Madame X'. Featuring Colombian singer Maluma, the song is a sultry Latin-pop midtempo that lyrically evokes the tropical escapism of 'La Isla Bonita'. Madonna reunited with Mirwais for the song's production, collaborating again following 2000's 'Music' and 2003's 'American Life'. It was a critical success, with praise directed at the song's unconventionality and achieved moderate success in the charts, particularly in Italy where it was certified Gold. April 17, 20241 yr This took awhile to hit but i ended up loving it! The video, the remixes, the awards show performance and the tour performance were so good!! I do think a single mix was needed for radios to be interested !! And Maluma is so sexy , who can blame her for licking his toe 😂
April 17, 20241 yr Author In some ways this song feels older than five years and in other ways I can't quite believe it's been that long since Madonna's last lead single! :o I remember thinking Madonna was jumping on the Latin bandwagon two years too late, but on first listen I realised 'Medellín' was anything but hit-chasing. It was hard to determine how much I liked the song but I knew I appreciated hearing something slightly left-field and unexpected from Madonna again. It's very understated yet a lot that subtly entices you, particularly the "one-two cha cha cha" hook and the beat that fades in and out. I'd be lying if I said it was one I revisted much, but hearing it now I still enjoy it and it does share that tropical escapist quality that 'La Isla Bonita' has.
April 17, 20241 yr I still think this is a decent single... it always reminds me of being on holiday in Italy where surprisingly it was being played quite regularly. 5 years though, it really does seem odd that it's been that long since the last Madonna album - I wonder how much longer the next one will be
April 22, 20241 yr I like it, but the video is a bit much. I hope if Madonna has another era she portrays herself more in the wise way of ROL era.
April 24, 20241 yr I bloody love this track, and for me it's her best lead single since Hung Up...... The video however doesn't work for me.
April 30, 20241 yr I still really like this! A lot of the album it comes from has aged a fair bit but this remains essential! The video is scorching too (and it kick-started my adoration and obsession with MAN GOD Maluma *.*) I'm ready to spin the track in the sun in the coming months
