I feel bad for Dua, she's the bestest UK popstar right now

But don't think doing bad on streaming will affect her chances at #1 on albums, it was all in the hands of physicals

I guess Future Nostalgia was her imperial phase then, and that she's peaked commercially. Not that she still won't be capable of getting hits of course, but it seems like she won't get back to that level of success. I don't really know what went wrong for her, to my ears it's a solid pop album with some strong songs, but it obviously just hasn't clicked with the public as well as it should have. Releasing three pre-album singles was definitely a bad idea.

I think having three top 10 hits on the album before it's out might have been a smart move for streaming longevity (as you need three decent sized hits on one album if it's gonna have any legs whatsoever), and of course we've got Glastonbury still to come.

I have to say the album is a real disappointment, and I really liked all three singles. It'll certainly be interesting to see what happens from here

Taylor will do 35-40k this week in total. Will Dua sell around 30k physicals? She will need to to be #1.

I got it Dua 37k Taylor 28k

Disappointing numbers indeed.😔

The only blessing in disguise from this could be that maybe will get a new album as soon as next year, because I don’t see this era having longevity with already three singles out there!!!

Bad for Dua. She does not have a real solid fanbase. She has great label support from the start hence radio and streaming have backed her. This is the start of the end unfortunately of being hugely successful. Most people I know think her songs all sound the same now and that she lacks charisma to a certain extent.

The album will sell poorly after week 1.

I 100% agree. Very little charisma, qirh samwy sounding songs= recipe foe disastee. Also this album should have been released MONTHS ago. A lot of this is on her/ the label. Huge albums have been out now, plus any hype for this album has long since gone.

I’m not surprised for Dua. It’s a decent album but very beige. No major standouts unlike future nostalgia, where every song sounded like a hit.
there's clearly no fourth hit on that album as it stands but I expect there'll be a deluxe edition of some kind before the year-end

Really? I think a few songs could make decent singles. "Whatcha Doing", "Falling Forever" & "Maria" could all do well.

I also think "Happy For You" could be a sleeper hit as well. A nice change of pace from usual Dua.

Fingers crossed some of the songs go viral on TikTok.

I think they should do a 4th single with a significant feature. Perhaps "Happy For You (feat. Ariana Grande)" (Her vocals in the chorus give me slight Ari vibes) or something.

Then release a deluxe version later this year with a big mid-tempo ballad-type smash.

Whilst the initial numbers are disappointing, we could see the album hold on better than expected in streaming and in the long-term become a success with more singles/a deluxe version etc.

Also I've had Sabrina's "Espresso" play every single time I finish going through Dua's album. Not that I'm complaining.

It is what it is! Oh well.

I hope she can pull it back and not end up having a Witness the next era!

You missed the memo - this IS her doing a Witness!!

I was going to say, Prism had two of Katy’s biggest hits!

Exactly!!! Plus had two HUGE unreleased songs on it, plus Birthday could have easly smashed - see Maroon 5- comin aftee two hits, plus better marketing!!

Katy ruined all chances of "Birthday" smashing with the music video. :( Her music videos were a big part of her songs doing so well but the "Birthday" music video just wasn't it. The lyric video has 4x more views than the actual video.

I remember being excited her team picked it as the next single as it was a smash in the making and following the momentum of "Dark Horse" it should've been an easy top 10 hit. I was hoping she would've went all out with a sexy music video and even doing a Marilyn Monroe tribute on the part she whispers Happy Birthday.

Instead we got a video of Katy's humour.... :snif:

They’re average album tracks at best though.

A Marilyn Monroe video would have been perfect!!

Imagine a run of:

Roar

Dark Horse

Legendary Lovers

Walking on Air

Birthday

It would have rivalled Teenage Dream! Then she mase huge mistakes with singles with Witness too...

I don’t know why she didn’t put the Barbie single on the album? It sounds relatively similar and was a huge hit, it would have definitely helped streaming numbers and kept it around a bit longer from people listening to it. She’d also have a smash from this album on top.
