I’ve said this before but while SFG are far from great I can’t see what’s so offensive about some light guitar pop.

Their debut album is one of my faves from the decade!

They're one of the only acts I can think of where they genuinely haven't made one good/listenable song, even most acts I hate I can't say that about.

Basically this.

Fair enough if others enjoy them but their style and his vocals especially are just not for me. I don't think he's a good singer either as they are boring and irritating imo.

Light guitar pop is great generally. The Feeling I'm a fan of and they'd fit in that category I think.

I liked This Ain't A Love Song as it was a little mellower I guess but I really didn't like the stuff from the debut, I found it all incredibly annoying - this track in particular. 'luv-er-ley, luv-er-ley' over and over again, and it was everywhere for years.

I thought Thinking It Over was a nice little pop garage number. I think it's been a little underrated here, it's quite a slick groove for the launch of a mixed sex pop band, rather than the pure cheese that one might have expected. I still hear it played at garage club nights alongside all the underground stuff and bigger hits of the time, so it must be fondly remembered in some quarters.

It shamelessly ripped off this, I'm still to this day amazed they weren't sued!

I prefer it to “Something kinda ooh, thumping on my tutu” or whatever it is. :kink:

The Coral - In The Morning

Wait is this the “in the morning I know you won’t remember a thing” song?

Also never knew Liberty X were Liberty to begin with! :o

Yeah, for the first two singles (the second of which bombed). I think it was some legal issue with an act of the same name, then they came back a few months later as Liberty X with 'Just A Little' and the rest as they say is history!

No that's Razorlight's song of the same title, The Coral's is much better but I don't imagine it will last long.

Scouting For Girls is so far worse than anything on this list.

Literally. They’re not exactly my favourites from the scene at the time but they seem really deeply hated on Buzzjack for some reason lol.

I guess She’s So Lovely got quite annoying being on that advert all the time but This Ain’t A Love Song was a good tune.

I dont hate SFG and love jangly indiepop bands as a rule, that song just got overplayed on the radio and wore out it's welcome quite quickly :( I have a low tolerance for saturation coverage...

Oh of course! It's even on my 00s playlist  I'm intrigued to listen to the Coral one now. :D

@Jessie/Roba I see! A Spice/Spice Girls situation then.

Edit: yep know the Coral one too and agree it's better!

According to the lyric card included with the CD single it's supposedly "Jumping on my toot toot". However the majority of people heard it as "tutu", and I'm honestly not sure if the lyric card was correct. I struggle to hear it ending with a -t sound! Regardless of what was right, it was certainly embraced as being "tutu", with that word showing up on the screens during their 2008 tour, and they also wore tutus for a performance of it later that year as well. Clearly neither lyric really makes sense, but that's a fun aspect to many of their songs.

I'm quite shocked by Liberty getting so many votes already. I think Thinking It Over is a great garage song, it came across as a strong/credible debut for the group! I can't fathom it being considered the worst song of these 10 but hey, different strokes for different folks... :arrr:
