They are ridiculous but it's really the 2030 edition that's scuppered things for other nations. Europe & South America in particular bending over to FIFA's desires to have a multi-continental 100th anniversary tournament and accepting a pitiful number of games has screwed over the rest of the confederations.

The best way to celebrate the 100th anniversary edition would have been to hold the whole tournament in Uruguay imo. I'm sure this was an option at one point. Failing that it should have been in the home nations.

I'd not be surprised to see the US decline to host 2038 and other continents including South America and Europe being allowed to bid on. I suppose we'll find out in the next few years.

Let's be honest though it'll go to whoever has the deepest pockets.

Mexico would technically also be able to host, they've already done so in 1970 and 1986. Although they're already going to be the first ever country to host/co-host 3 tournaments so 4 would be obscene.

They also want the first game in Uruguay for the 100th anniversary!

So first day of the tournament with no early kick off.

Just a 5pm and 8pm match.

Be interesting to see how Georgia do after qualifying for their first major tournament through the play-off final.

So now we've seen all the teams play - who do we think are going to be the winners?

Looks like Germany are favourites to me. France will be affected by Mbappe's absence quite heavily. Spain should do quite well and Romania look like the dark horses with a possible semi in line for them.

Hard to say after the first game, teams rarely peak until Q-Final for me. Still think the Germanys will at least make the semis given the home support - Hungary and Switzerland should provide them a tougher test though!

Yeah way too early to say. Who thought Argentina would win the World Cup after they lost to Saudi Arabia?

Still my money is on France, haven't seen anything to sway me yet. Germany had the easiest game of the round so we will see their credentials against better teams.

Spain I have a bet on as they had a good price so hopefully they go deep.

So our fans are 'under scrutiny' for singing 10 German Bombers - meanwhile Croatian and Albanian fans chant something that translates as 'kill the serbs' and not a word of scrutiny from UEFA or the FA.

I'm not defending the German bombers chant by the way but seems like it's always England fans getting grief while everyone else can do what they want.

So apparently the largest winning margin at Euros is 5 goals - which is quite remarkable when you consider the world cup has 9 goals as the largest winning margin.

Would be nice to see that record broken this championship with a 6-0 or even a 7-0.

Also interesting that Scotland's goal stopped their match joining the list.

Guess there's more chance of uneven match up at the world cup.

For those interested in this stuff:

Home Nations Overnight Viewing Figures

Scotland v Germany - 6m (10.4m Peak, 9.1m Match Average)

England v Serbia - 10.5m (15m Peak, 14.2m Match Average)

Scotland v Switzerland - 7m (9.4m Peak, 8.6m Match Average)

England v Denmark - - (13.1m Peak, 11.2m Match Average)

Scotland v Hungary - 6.7m (10m Peak, 8.4m Match Average)

England v Slovenia - 9.2m (15.4m Peak, 14.5m match average)

Next Home Nations game is Scotland v Hungary on 8pm Tuesday which should rate well with the Scots looking to get out of the group. The next England game is at 8pm on a Tuesday night and obviously has more riding on it so should get the best ratings of the tournament so far.

Unlikely that happens unless there’s a complete pasting in a knockout game where a team collapses. Good to see imo, shows the teams are close to each other rather than a huge disparity in quality that sometimes happens.

England v Denmark should draw in a good crowd but might be slightly dented by being a 5pm kick off.

Football coming to save tv ratings! :o

Feels like the tournament is flying by. There's a couple of rest days coming up on Thursday & Friday, when that happens you know the tournament is getting towards the latter stages.

Yes indeed. Those rest days are between the group and knockouts so definitely a way to tell were at the latter stages.

Tbh I quite like the wall to wall football of the group stages even if it's become less interesting since the expansion to 24 teams.

Okay even I think Southgate needs to go now. The idea that players who are playing in the Bundesliga, the PL or La Liga 'aren't fit enough' is utterly for the birds. I he's saying this to the press in public then what's he saying to the players in private - no wonder they've seemed unmotivated in these first two games.
