June 3, 20241 yr Author VOTE FIFTEEN: Suedehead Track: Salad - Granite Statue Many thanks to Dandy* for running this. No surprises for guessing which song gets maximum points from me laugh.gif 12 Suede - Europe Is Our Playground 10 Elastica - Stutter 8 The Auteurs - Lenny Valentino 7 The Divine Comedy - Tonight We Fly 6 Ash - Petrol 5 Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Patio Song 4 Manic Street Preachers - 4st 7lb 3 Pulp - Your Sister's Clothes 2 Super Furry Animals - Hermann Loves Pauline 1 Spacehog - In the Meantime Bjork's foot shooting is short lived as Suedehead returns the favour and lifts the Auteurs back above Salad with a hefty 8 point score here. Elastica continue their run of good points with another 10 here, lifting Stutter in to the top 5 and only a mere seven points behind the leader... but, in a shock unexpected twist, Suede receive their first 12 of the contest(!) and close in on the top 10... which in itself is closing up quite significantly, especially at the top.
June 3, 20241 yr Spacehog was one of two songs I very much expected to be submitted when we decided on the theme that I thought were more well known than their chart peak suggested... although my theory was ruined during the listen through when hardly anyone knew it! Ah right. I thought it never appeared on any of those Shine or Best Albums releases so assumed it was largely forgotten. Out of curiosity, what was the other song you expected? Rialto was the one I expected Edited June 3, 20241 yr by Severin
June 3, 20241 yr Author VOTE SIXTEEN: Jade Track: Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Patio Song 12 ♥ Manic Street Preachers - 4st 7lb 10 ♥ Ash - Petrol 08 ♥ Silver Sun - Lava 07 ♥ Suede - Europe Is Our Playground 06 ♥ Rialto - Monday Morning 5:19 05 ♥ The Boo Radleys - Martin, Doom! It's Seven O'Clock 04 ♥ Super Furry Animals - Hermann Loves Pauline 03 ♥ Pulp - Your Sister's Clothes 02 ♥ The Auteurs - Lenny Valentino 01 ♥ Elastica - Stutter So the person who submitted the somewhat legendary Gorky's Zygotic Mynci is finally revealed! Sadly Jade currently finds them bottom 5 but who knows what could happen with close scores? Hopefully she will be a bit happier with the top end of the table as her 12 points lifts the Manics to the top of the leaderboard and her 10 points follows suit! I'll await Jade's request to freeze the scoreboard now...
June 3, 20241 yr Author Ah right. I thought it never appeared on any of those Shine or Best Albums releases so assumed it was largely forgotten. Out of curiosity, what was the other song you expected? Rialto was the one I expected Yes that was the same for me!
June 3, 20241 yr Author VOTE SEVENTEEN: Addy! Track: Elastica - Stutter Hi Dandy, here are my votes: 12 ♥ Dubstar - No More Talk 10 ♥ Pulp - Your Sister's Clothes 08 ♥ The Auteurs - Lenny Valentino 07 ♥ Stereophonics - Looks Like Chaplin 06 ♥ Spacehog - In the Meantime 05 ♥ Rialto - Monday Morning 5:19 04 ♥ Salad - Granite Statue 03 ♥ The Boo Radleys - Martin, Doom! It's Seven O'Clock 02 ♥ Feeder - High 01 ♥ Ash - Petrol It's all change again at the top as Addy! gives Pulp his 10 points to see them move back to the top, Rialto still in contention though as a 5 is enough to move them past the Manics. The rest of Addy's votes are largely to songs that haven't been regularly receiving them, his 12 for Dubstar in particular pushes them back in to the top 10. Points for both of the previous bottom two is also nice to see.
June 3, 20241 yr Looks like you froze the votes last night at my high water mark, coming for that wooden spoon now :cheer: The top 4 now are the same songs that were in my top 4 though so once again at least my taste is seemingly in line with the majority even though I never seem to channel that into my own entry actually doing well!
June 3, 20241 yr Author VOTE EIGHTEEN: Fiesta Track: Stereophonics - Looks Like Chaplin 12 Stripper vicar 10 Patio song 8 In the meantime 7 Monday morning 5:19 6 High 5 Herman loves Pauline 4 No more talk 3 Pink carnations 2 Granite statue 1 Lenny Valentino Another 12 points of the contest for Mansun as Fiesta's favourite was that stripper vicar! It's a good set of votes for Rialto, who move back to the top in yet another change of leader... not for the first time they score whilst their main competitors don't. Fiesta also gives more points to the songs in the bottom half, providing some much needed bold lines in that part of the table. Fiesta's own track is doing pretty well in 12th, albeit the gap has widened now to 14 points between it and the top 10.
June 3, 20241 yr Author VOTE NINETEEN: Julian Track: The Divine Comedy - Tonight We Fly 12 Spacehog 10 Dubstar 8 Pulp 7 Bis 6 Boo Radleys 5 Elastica 4 Rialto 3 Suede 2 Auteurs 1 Manics Next up to vote is Julian, who was behind the final song in the voting, the uplifting Tonight We Fly by Divine Comedy which currently sits as close to the top 10 as it can get. Julian's max goes to Spacehog and in the process returns them to the top 5. He gives points to all of the top 3 but the most to Pulp which closes things back up again... as we're running out of voters it is starting to feel like a two horse race. Just Wardy and Whoddy to go... so who will win out?
June 3, 20241 yr Author VOTE TWENTY: awardinary Track: Ash - Petrol I realise it is later than I had hoped, but here are some points that may help to crown the overall winner this contest, and thank you for hosting dandy! happy.gif +12 Suede - Europe Is Our Playground +10 Rialto - Monday Morning 5:19 +8 The Boo Radleys - Martin, Doom! It's Seven O'Clock +7 Elastica - Stutter +6 Mansun - Stripper Vicar +5 Stereophonics - Looks Like Chaplin +4 Super Furry Animals - Hermann Loves Pauline +3 Manic Street Preachers - 4st 7lb +2 Dubstar - No More Talk +1 Silver Sun - Lava xx Salad - Granite Statue xx Gorky's Zygotic Mynci - Patio Song xx Spacehog - In the Meantime xx Animals That Swim - Pink Carnations xx Feeder - High xx The Divine Comedy - Tonight We Fly xx Pulp - Your Sister's Clothes xx The Auteurs - Lenny Valentino xx Bis - Kandy PopIt's been a good contest for Wardy whose song is currently top 5 even after his own votes. Suede pick up another maximum here but it isn't quite enough to push them in to the top 10... but the real news is up at the top as a 10 for Rialto pushes them almost out of reach of Pulp... can WhoOddy's votes change anything? VOTE TWENTY ONE: WhoOdyssey Track: Feeder - High ERROR NO VOTES RECEIVED ...can WhoOddy's votes change anything? That would be a no then! Rialto win! Congratulations to Dobbo!!! :cheer:
June 3, 20241 yr Thanks Dandy for hosting!! This has been a lot of fun. I’ll be sure to check in next time!! Also thanks Wardy for that last-minute 12  I’ll take #11 considering there was a no movement for a while. :D
June 3, 20241 yr Congratulations Dobbo :cheer: a new song contest win for you! Also the first song that spent less than 4 weeks in the Top 75 including cover versions to win this contest - it had just 2 weeks! Rialto are a lesser known name however, and that was their best moment. I'm delighted with a podium spot (my array of finishes in these contests now reads 2-3-4-6-11-16) - thank you Severin and Jade for the new golds tonight  and RFC for a silver! Also to Suedey, Wardy and Julian for your points. Hopefully it was a discovery for a few of you as something different from The Manics before their biggest commercial success. Thank you Dandy for hosting!
June 3, 20241 yr Excellent hosting and a fine set of songs. Big thanks to Julian for the 12, bumped me back to a respectable finish in the end. Congrats to Dobbo, as soon as I saw that song was in it was always in the favourites to win. A great track from a ban who arrived just too late to be massive
June 3, 20241 yr Oops I did end up flopping, maybe standing out in the wrong way :kink: Thanks for the few of you that did throw a few points my way though x Congrats Dobbo! I'd never heard that before and it was a great discovery, and nice to see an inspired winner as opposed to the familiar names. Although I voted for three more of those top 5 and good to see Dubstar and SFA in the top 10 as well. Gorky's Zygotic Mynci (Chart trivia kings *.*) and Boo Radleys should've done much better though. Thanks for hosting, dandy, I was worried this may be quite samey, but it was another quite strong edition with no bad entries.
June 3, 20241 yr Glad that Wardy did vote as it'd have sucked for Ash to miss out on a top 5 spot because of a deduction - very comfortably my favourite from this edition, as I think I said on SyncTube it sounded like the kind of song that could have been released almost any time in the last 30 years, really stood out from the pack with the heavier guitar sound which worked as nice ear candy for me ~ I voted for Whoddy's entry too but less sad about the deduction there especially as it saved me from the bottom 2 :basil: Not too surprised that didn't set the scoreboard alight but still a good pick. Well done Dobbo, finally winning a song contest other than Club Bizarre! That top 4 still ended up remaining as the same songs from my own top 4 with the only difference being 1st and 4th place being swapped - but I think it's nice that Rialto won out of the 4 just for being the least well known artist (even though it's apparently probably the most well known song according to Dandy and Spotify totals  but it was new to me!) Spacehog by contrast was actually my least favourite song on the list oops but there was nothing I particularly disliked here. Happy to see Dubstar, Super Furry Animals and Silver Sun finishing in the top 10 too. edit: just noticed Ash and Spacehog have the same number of points so the above might not actually be true depending on tiebreaks x Thanks Dandy for the hosting :3 my record in this contest remains appalling though, 5 out of 6 times finishing in the bottom 5 now (can't say I didn't call it tbf x) and 3 out of 6 bottom 3  maybe 7th time lucky :teresa:
June 3, 20241 yr Author I’m not actually sure how we break ties in this contest… is it count back of highest points or number of voters?
June 3, 20241 yr It's been done by number of votes in all the previous contests in the archive thread. (I'd guess Spacehog probably got more votes)
