Expected to receive ~2.9mil debut which really isn’t bad given the lack of playlisting! Not amazing either but could’ve definitely seen it being a lot worse.

Heard it in the club I work at tonight and sounded SO good (with Stupid Love following it ofc ofc x)

I actually really like the song and I'll stand by it, but I think the criticisms are valid. Like it's hard to take the theme of it seriously with that giant elephant in the room.

And it is kinda reheating leftovers from her glory days, although I don't mind that per se.

My god at every article and everyone over social media. She is being well and truly cancelled! Old interviews are being dug up, I really don't think we have seen something like this with a female pop star in a long time.

It's heartbreaking to see as I don't think she truly deserves all the hate she is getting. The song is tripe yes but I really don't think she would have done this on her own free will. It's literally character and brand death we are witnessing.

There must be somebody to blame surely, these tone-deaf decisions don't just happen. Even a quick poll among the pop fans would've 100% stated that please do not do it. Or like, she could've called Sam Smith (they share a label) who released Unholy and Vulgar and they would've give some advice how to execute this.
About as high as could be expected on Spotify given the support.
I would have thought with the amount of publicity and viral moments it had yesterday it would have been top 10 on curiosity alone

It was #3 on NMF?

Out of interest where did Daises enter at on Spotify?

I guess that’s her best release to compare this too as Never Really Over although featured on smile came out over a year before its eventual release.

The lack of Spotify support is just an excuse. The song's been a talking point and teased on social media for weeks now.

Within certain circles, yes! Spotify support is most important for it reaching the wider GP audience and it's difficult to suggest that won't have hampered it (among other factors too).

She hasn’t had a smash hit in about 10 years, why would a song without any support from any of the main country playlists be expected to debut high lol?

It feels to me like the expectation on Katy was weirdly sky high. People suggesting her comeback could be on the level of The Emancipation of Mimi when Mariah had smash after smash singles and albums for over a decade and just stuttered a couple of times. Katy strung together three successful albums in the space of five years (including one behemoth), but outside of chart terms I don’t see how an R&B diva and a pure pop singer can be compared. I think Katy’s career has just followed the usual trajectory for many - not all - pop artists of ‘huge for a few years including one imperial phase at the middle of the peak and then fading slowly’.

I don’t see why she was expected to be in line for a mega commercial comeback this time. She literally - imo - released the song of her career in Never Really Over and it was just a top 15 hit in the US and here. And that one didn’t feature Dr Luke so had none of the negative discourse.

Continuing to work with Dr Luke at all, and certainly on a song like this, is a questionable choice that was always going to be scrutinised hugely by fans, the media and everyone who hears it.

But I dislike seeing the major pile on, because it’s really cruel. Reviewing a song negatively is one thing, but people digging up a load of old tweets and interview clips to twist the knife because they’ve decided it’s time for her to be cancelled is another. You can surely question a particular choice that somebody has made without trying to cancel them altogether and wishing misery on their every move?

Are people here really taking the tack 'poor victim Kety people just want to tear her down'?

She released a crap song with an out of date message and this isn't the first or second time she's done it. She's made her own bed and the fact she made it with Dr Luke is the cherry on top.

I wonder if some of the negativity is because some people felt the lyrics should have been “it’s a womxn world”…”they are a winner….” ?

girl do u live under a rock

The robot vocals ruin it, I love women in powerment songs however this is a mess.
I mean yeah it’s an ok song, but it’s just so generic could have been done by absolutely anyone. And the whole dr Luke thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth for this song particularly being about women empowerment. also the vocals are way too overproduced, it’s a nice 6/10 track
