June 23, 20241 yr But the whole point is that we were supposed to think Ruby’s mother was some mysterious other worldly person. It makes complete sense they’d dress in some sort of ominous cloak to get people talking. I doubt very much her rocking up in a Burberry tracksuit and a beenie hat would have gotten people theorising in the way they wanted us to.
June 23, 20241 yr I enjoyed it. I think? I did very much have a 'is that it?' moment watching it to be fair but I think it deserves a second watch. I did feel confused in parts so it definitely needs a rewatch but I will say having been with my thoughts and watched a few reactions, the fact that ruby's mum is normal is a very doctor who thing to do imo. The everyone is as important as you make them speech was very well done and indeed completely true. You're only as important as someone thinks you are. The cloak thing? Whilst a strange choice for dropping off ruby, I don't think it really matters. Not wanting to be seen because of the CCTV is enough of an answer for such a little detail and as for the pointing? Even if no one was watching, surely if she knew that CCTV was there, well she would know that they'd try to track down who had left the baby and in that sense pointing at the street sign is a fine enough reason for me too because she would then know that someone would see that.

True; but Rubys mum wouldn’t have known that :D I know you mean she has dressed in the cloak to build suspense/ mystery but made little sense why a 15 year old girl would be going round in that outfit
June 23, 20241 yr However I’ve seen so many comments about ‘why is Ruby’s mum dressed in a cloak if she’s just a normal teenager?’ and once again roll my eyes on the fixation on a mundane detail. She was abandoning a baby at the church. There was CCTV. She didn’t want to be seen. I don’t really need a full explanation of where she found the cloak, etc, it’s just not important enough. This is it in my eyes - she was abandoning a baby and there was CCTV around, that's enough of a reason for the character in-universe to have decided to wear a cloak for me to go along with it!
June 23, 20241 yr True; but Rubys mum wouldn’t have known that :D I know you mean she has dressed in the cloak to build suspense/ mystery but made little sense why a 15 year old girl would be going round in that outfit But you have to suspend your disbelief when watching Doctor Who, it’s something we’ve always had to do! honestly, I do not get the fixation with the cloak at all and there’s so much about this series you could pick at, I’m just not sure why a cloak is the one that’s gotten people so annoyed.

The be fair the cloak didn't bother me hugely; if anything I just thought it was amusing. Especially the mum standing for the best part of a minute pointing at a sign :D The script had worse faults. It was mostly enjoyable, but not if you examine it too closely. As a pay off for the whole season, I wouldn't say it really worked. Might change my mind though when I re-watch the season... if I can bring myself to go through Space Babies again that is
June 24, 20241 yr I was completely underwhelmed. There are some really ridiculous choices in this episode (like putting a leash on the GOD OF DEATH) that I was willing to overlook, then came the reveal of Ruby's mum and it shattered my remaining patience. I was not one of the fans assuming that Ruby's mum was River or Clara or somebody else hugely significant. However I was expecting SOMETHING of interest or note. It makes no sense to spend the entire season treating her like a huge mystery, including Davina and even Maestro, and then having that as the reveal. So much of the season stops making sense when you realise that her mum is a nobody. I have really enjoyed this season and felt very disappointed. All of the people I've spoken to agree too. Such a shame. (HOWEVER, 10x better than any Chris/Jodie finale, so at least that's something.)
